  • What's so special with Reolink E1 Outdoor Pro - except Pan/Tilt/Zoom, Auto tracking, two way audio, siren, motion detection, time lapse functionality?
    That it works out of box with Home Assistant, and you can use your HA as a simple NVR or monitoring station. This is #1 feature I look for in cameras - and price. It has to be affordable and support running without a cloud.
    All that and more is packed into this compact outdoor camera.

      I do prefer POE for reliability. I have invested in quite a big roll of outside TP cable, and after getting a container-like guesthouse, I need to make a new entrance to the backyard since bigger transports can't pass the guesthouse. Therefore, I need at least one more camera to monitor the new entrance. That will be about 50-60 meters away from our house, so I may go for a WiFi camera there since i have more important routes for my outdoor cable already. This looks interesting for the job. Power can be taken from the barn, so no problem there.
      Lost of loose thoughts, as you can see (if someone is bothered reading it all😂). I do get a lot of great ideas from this channel, so I throw out my thoughts and maybe get Great ideas ideas from it❤

    Reolink do make some good cameras at the price point, though I am still a little disappointed with the night vision capabilities on most of their camears. I personally I have no real need for PZT camera's, but this is a good camera for well lit areas in situations where PZT is needed. Having the WiFi 6 capabilities is nice on a wireless camera. Not many cameras have that and a lot of wired cameras are only 100mbps ethernet, not even gigabit, so it is nice to see a manufacturer looking at higher bandwidth capabilities.

    • @BeardedTinker

      I've been very happy with them. As for PTZ - I do have only 2 places where I can use them, and for both it's more of a novelty to get nice panoramas, than really security need.
      As for night, well - they do have one of the best night modes, but still, it can be sometimes hard to see clear face due to all of the artefacts on image.

I have a few cameras including Reolink - the others have dynamic range adjustment and they would be able to deal with the bright sky and dark forrest. Very nice looking device.
    I've been looking at their bullet cameras for a while as I don't need the PTZ feature, though if the price is similar I'm now thinking it might still make sense - don't have to move them just because you can and might make it easier to point exactly where I need them to.
    Plus if someone is moving around on your property and the camera starts tracking them it might help encourage them to leave :)

    If you have multiples of this camera and or other (reolink) cams, can they work together to ensure coverage?
    If one cam is tracking someone, can a 2nd cam be auto-activated to provide additional coverage, particulary in the area the tracking cam no longer is capturing?
    For example, if a decoy is tracked so a bad guy can sneak onto or in a property, it woukd be great if other cams are automatically activated to cover gaps. By pre-activating they may catch more than what would be caught waiting for individual motion activation.

    • @BeardedTinker
      @BeardedTinker  Рік тому +1

      Excellent question. What I usually do is have cameras pointing at each other plus in middle auto tracking camera. So I still have images from other cameras that are doing smart recording (recording of everything if there is event) + PTZ that tracks event.
      Or that's what I had before my old PTZ camera died.
      But depending on the NVR - that should be possible.

      There will (almost) always be a delay. HA takes stream and needs to re-stream it. YOu can see in video how fast it updates when I do left/right with camera, and also zoom. There is a delay, but definitely not 10s. Also depends on the stream quality.

    A good camera, but presets get confused and have to be manually reset and the camera can permanently lose focus making it unusable and unable to regain focus after factory reset. To give you some honest feedback, I think you completely failed to provide a useful review of the image quality. You pointed the camera right onto the edge line of the sky with trees in the shadows. There is no surveillance camera available as of this time that will deal well with this kind of image, and honestly this also is not the kind of image I would use a camera like this for. How does it look pointed on my front yard, my parking lot, my entrance? Ho much detail can I see from whatever it catches? Can I tell apart a rat from a hedgehog? Can I recognize faces or are they completely blurred out? Nothing of this is subject in your videos, and I honestly think it should. Yes features are important for me too, but you can do that with any reolink camera. Much more important for me is image quality in regards to my use case.
    I like your channel, keep up the good work!

  • @daylen577
    @daylen577 Рік тому +1

    Don't use PTZ cameras, especially not once that auto-track. They're completely useless unless you set them to look at one spot and keep them there, but at that point you're paying extra for a feature you don't use.
    PTZ just means you have a moving blind spot, and because it gives you a false sense of coverage you increase your chances of missing something important. Just get some bullet cams (NOT dome cams, those fog up and get milky over time!) and point them at the right spots, that's the only way to get any real security benefits.

    • @BeardedTinker
      @BeardedTinker  Рік тому +2

      This one has an auto track, as I mentioned. But don't forget the auto patrol setting where the PTZ camera moves and zooms to specific locations in intervals. So even ones with just PTZ can be used to patrol large areas.

    • @daylen577
      @daylen577 Рік тому +2

      @@BeardedTinker Yeah but the problem isn't where it's looking, it's where it's not looking. Auto patrolling 180 degrees with a 100 degree FOV means you're always missing 80 to 100 degrees of your view, and that's not good for a security camera. Way better to just get two cheaper cameras at strategic locations (covering any entrance) than to assume your PTZ can cover a wider area.

    • @BeardedTinker

    So it’s not wireless..? Why did the title say wireless if you still need to provide it mains power
    I feel like people say “wireless” when the device doesn’t have to attach to a power outlet or a switch.

    • @BeardedTinker
      @BeardedTinker  9 місяців тому

      It is wireless, problem is that people are mixing wireless data transfer with solar/battery powere. There is no wireless powered camera as current technology is not capable of transferring power over the air - at least not on longer distances.
      It saws wireless because you don't need Ethernet cable, you just need to provide power, even when there is no switch nearby.

    • @Mnya136
      @Mnya136 9 місяців тому

      @@BeardedTinker you don’t need futuristic energy transfer mechanisms to power something without hooking it up to the wall - you can use a battery. And you can even charge that battery with a built in solar panel to be truly and fully wireless, or continually charge it with a solar panel and a functionally attached solar panel (which is close enough that searches for wireless cameras will also pull up)
      I’m just saying lots of people will assume wireless to mean these things, ie a wire not attached to a fix point in your home. I think it would have made more sense to just refer to the camera as a “Wi-Fi” camera, then no one would make the assumption you are using the term “wireless” as most people would

    • @Mnya136
      @Mnya136 9 місяців тому

      @@BeardedTinker in any case it makes sense and it is technically wireless with respect to audio/video output. But I think nowadays atleast colloquially people will associate the term “wireless camera” with one that transfers audio/video wirelessly and also doesn’t have to be attached to a fixed point to be powered

    • @BeardedTinker
      @BeardedTinker  9 місяців тому

      Yes, but actually no - those will always be wireless solar camera or wireless battery camera. I haven't seen any company selling them otherwise. Again wired vs wireless is used for data transfer, while PoE, battery, solar, mains are for power distribution.

    • @BeardedTinker
      @BeardedTinker  9 місяців тому

      Ohh and one more thing - if you go for wireless solar or wireless battery cameras, those are usually (in 99.9%) not real cameras. All (99.9%) battery cameras don't feature 24/7 video transmission. They are activated by motion or events. That also means that they can not be used with NAS/NVR as they require real cameras that are not just capturing still images or small clips of video. This is due to high power usage for constantly streaming cameras over WiFi.
