It is planned obsolescence calculated by R&D of every big company. And it is not about saving money on production costs.
This is the reason why, among the other probably minor things, you'll have to buy a new product to replace the old one, that probably still works fine.
This principle is used everywhere, in smartphones and network devices, which are designed to use already outdated for 2-3 years chips, and in every other hardware imaginable, like CCTV cameras, laptops, washing machines, you name it.

Hey there. I just bought one of these for my new A80j and the speed increased from 48mbps to nearly 500mbps. Thanks so much for the tip. I can’t believe a premium TV like the A80j doesn’t ship with a gigabit adapter as standard. Or all USB 3 or all eHDMI ports for that matter.

TV's don't ship with faster Ethernet adapters because around 98% of all of their customers don't even use that port at all - they just connect to the web over Wi-fi. Expect that port to likely be dropped from ALL TV's next year entirely. Companies won't spend money on features that their customers aren't using. They will remove them so they can lower their end cost to the customer while increasing their profit margins.

Generally, the Ethernet drivers are built-in the TV directly and you are unable to install the driver on TVs manually, so you may need to select the Ethernet adapter that has a same chipset/driver as the TV's to ensure it works. The adapter I have is using the RealTek AX88179 chipset and it works with my Hisense. I tried dozens of adapters to find this one. Then it failed after just three weeks. I am having it replaced. I would not recommend it. But the key is not the vendor anyway, it's matching up the chipset.

And by workaround, I mean the WiFi, totally forgot about the fact that the wireless speed on my TCL 75Q825 is not under the same 100 mbps limit, I was able to double my speed through connecting to my 5GHz network (side note: my router is only about a foot or two away from my TV), went from 96mbps using ethernet to 186mbps using WiFi.
Also, this video reminded me of some problems within quite a few different consumer industries. When taking into considering the time we live in, I can't think of one good reason why all TVs with ethernet don't have 1Gbps supporting LAN ports, this is 2022 right?! The only thing I can think of is greedy cheapskateness. Usb 3.0 is everywhere, 1 Gbps supporting devices are everywhere, affordable broadband speeds in excess of 100mbps is affordable in most places. Just doesn't make sense that they don't future proof these tvs in such a simple area.

I have a an SB8200 modem configured for link aggregation to my rt-ax88u router which is configured to utilize the WAN Aggregation feature of the router. Of course the 1Gbps LAN ports limitd my max download speed for any one device to 960 mbps, but full speed utilization can be reached by simultaneous devices being used at the same time. The limitation of the WiFi speed on the TV is partly due to the limitation of the tvs onboard wifi adapter which is 802.11ac 2x2, which realistically has a max down speed of around 455 mbps. So my speed results for my TV may be lower than what it actually can do due to whatever built-in speed test software or server it uses.

Thank you Vincent! This tripled my Internet speed. I went from 90 Mbps to 280 Mbps. Appreciate it! :)

@@cindorgrunn6362 I bought the Amazon Basics USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter. Sadly it hasn't been working consistently.. sometimes i have a fast internet connection and sometimes no internet connection at all. I might actually return it and buy another one from amazon. The cable matters recommended in the video isnt available on amazon right now. Which one do you have?

I'm loving this. I have Sony A80J 77". With wi-fi, download speeds at 75 mbps on tv even though internet speed is 800 mbps. Hadn't had any issues since I purchased 4 months ago. Was trying to stream Venom 2 on bravia core which has pure stream and kept getting a buffering signal every 20 min. Super frustrating. went through this videos recommendations and got speeds over 900 mbps. upload speeds only around 20 right now, i imagine won't be a huge issue

I can't believe I'm saying this, but thank you devs for not slimming down the kernel built for at least the android and google tv. Dont know if lg uses the linux kernel or not

They probably use generic USB Ethernet internally in the TV so it naturally ends up using the same kernel module. I very much doubt they compiled anything beyond basic support. Fortunately a lot of modern USB ethernet adapters use this modern USB NIC driverless model. (obviously not technically driverless, but they follow a standard API so are compatible with a generic driver)

Thanks for this information, I'm definitely going to try it. I was using Wi-Fi which is not ideal. 👍
Edit: I bought Ethernet to USB adapter and my Sony Bravia A8 didn't even recognize it as a new device. So I returned it and my Wi-Fi is back in service. 😐
Edit2: Maybe 2021 Sony TVs are compatible with Linux drivers, because no one of my found adapters was supporting Android TV. Or even only Master series are compatible.

I have the sony xr-a84j and also tried the cablematters one, but didn't work.
So I read online somewhere the tp-link ue300 does work for this type tv.
Just installed it and can confirm that the tp-link ue300 does work. Didn't even have to turn of the wifi for it to recognize. Still turned it off to make sure it always uses the ethernet now. And I can also confirm it reaches good speeds cause I got 500mbs here, what is my maximum speed at home.
