    Listening again, I'm even more blown away. The detail, tonal balance, and note separation is second to none. Every song sounds so much better, like they've all been remixed, for better clarity, tonal balance, and imaging/soundstage. Even the kick drum on all the songs is tighter and punchier, and the rock and metal songs are so much cleaner and clearer but less edgy and shrill than on other amps, where they're more veiled but also edgier at the same time. And, the clarity and dynamics on the classical piece are the best I've heard from any amp too. I'm astounded by this amp, paired with these speakers. Time Travelling sounds so much more lively and realistic, like a whole new song. I can now hear every nuance and inflection in the voices like never before

    I agree with the comment below both sound equally good. The 200 just a little Fuller in the mid-range. Paired with a good sub they would both be great speakers. Thanks for the great video!

    Liistening to this demo again, the more I really like the Arcam SA10 with the R100 in particular. The R100's slightly more forward midrange works pretty nicely with the Arcam. Maybe they're a tiny touch understated around 3 to 5 khz. with it and maybe not, but the combo is definately more smooth and warm than colored sounding to me, and smoother I think than with the R200

    I twice demoed the Polks at a local store recently, and in both demos I got completely different results. The first demo was running some Dianna Krall (the stock standard cd stores usually play) through a powerful Denon amp. They sounded great. But on the second try, I played some guitar-driven black metal through a bluetooth streamer (from my iphone) into the same amp, the Polks sounded completely flat, muddy and weak. However, when I switched speakers, the music came through perfectly. What a weird thing.

    Going back and listening the the R200 with other amps, the AXR85 and 100 come closest to the Arcam, followed by the Audiolab and NAD 316. The 388 sounds positively muffled and veiled in comparison to all of them

  • @DougMen1
    @DougMen1 2 роки тому +1

    I wonder if any of the increased clarity we hear is due to sound reflecting off of the flat screen TV between and just behind the speakers

  • @DougMen1

    Wow! The Arcam is so dynamic, punchy, clear, and balanced. And, the stereo balance is now perfect too, with the lead trumpet on the jazz tune dead center, instead of off to the right. Thanks for getting that sorted out! IMO, the 100 sounds a tiny bit shut in and compressed compared to the 200, but it still sounds great. I like the new background graphics too. Now we need to hear the Arcam with other speakers. I think it'll maybe beat the Audiolab, the NADs, and the Cambridges! Even though it's bright and clear, it's so natural and sweet sounding at the same time and never shrill or edgy, and the note definition, detail, resolution, and separation between voices and instruments is better than all the other amps. When Fields started, I was knocked out of my chair! The guitar sounds more real than I've ever heard before, and is maybe more natural on the 100. It sounds bigger on the 200, but the tonal balance isn't as good as the 100. It sounds slightly more hollow and bloated on the 200

    To start, I've heard other demo's of this Arcam, and the SA20, and even there I felt midrange fullness wasn't it's very best quality compared to some other amps. Clarity and definition are!!
    It also has a fluid quality that is exceptional.
    Regarding the speaker siblings, I think the R200 has sounded slightly fuller and more natural in the mids with other amps, and definately with the Audiolab 6000, but never more clear or detailed.
    The R100's sound very slightly less full in midrange and bass, and a touch more forward around 1khz than their big bro's, but not by a lot at all to me. Again, strictly for me, I think other amps may suit them slightly better from a midrange tonality perspective, but I think there is a nice reassuring consistancy in sound between the two models, and I basicaly like them both..and the Arcam.
    Nice comparison E Project! Level matching and balance are excellent too.

      The yamaha s801 push the R200 way better than arcam 10,20 the arcam 30 works better cause you need 100watts to really push the R200

  • @-MarkWinston-

    Keep this setting and volume level E, better than all the other old vids!
    On a side note, on Time Travelling the vocals seems a little recessed (backwards?) on the 200 next to the 100. In fact the vocals on the metal tracks confirm this. I definitely like the 100 more tonality wise. But power handling wise and at higher volumes the smaller sibling would start to lose composure quick.

    • @DougMen1
      @DougMen1 2 роки тому +3

      The more I listen, the more I warm to the 100, and agree iwth you that it's even more blanced than the 200, which is very evident on the metal and acoustic tracks. The 200 is just a tad more dynamic, I think. You really can't beat either one at their price

      @@-MarkWinston- I've always felt that a 5.25" woofer on a two way bookshelf has better midrange than a 6.5" woofer. They just don't have the bass of a 6.5". But, I'm not a big bass head anyway. I'm more into rich mids and clean highs. My Diamond 9.1s have plenty of clean and punchy bass for me, which is actually better with my cheap class D amp than my AB ones. Maybe the class D amp is less affected by the low impedance dips that Diamonds all have than class AB amps. Because frequencies become very directional when the length of the waveform approaches the driver diameter, a smaller woofer will have better dispersion, and better in room response at the top of its range than a larger woofer. So, even when we sit in the sweet spot, we still hear the overall room response. That's why MA blew it by moving up to an 8" woofer on the 100. They should have stayed with the 6.5" that they used to have on the larger Bronze bookshelves. But, Wharfedale somehow messed up the corssover on the 12.1, because its midrange is clearly inferior to the 12.2

    • @-MarkWinston-
      @-MarkWinston- 2 роки тому +1

      @@DougMen1 that is probably due to how 'undersized' wharfedale's woofers are. My 12.2's woofer measures more like a 5 inch woofer (center of rubber surround to the other) and the 12.1 more like a 4 inch one. I have never seen a woofer with a smaller surface area from any manufacturer for a given size.

      @@-MarkWinston- So, they fudge the numbers and measure including the frame? That's new, because the woofers on my 9.1s really are 5.25 or 5.5".
