Original Story: Vikings and Dragons New series: A normal boy and dragons Honestly, just because they are no longer Vikings as they were in the stories in the movies and not having the original characters anymore, it already loses some of the magic of HTTYD This seems to me just like a show to profit from the original story, and not something that was really made to please HTTYD fans :/ To everyone who is anxious, don't get too excited as it may not be the perfect story you are imagining. I very strongly dislike reboots, mainly because most of them always end up being bad. It’s like an artist paints a masterpiece and frames it to be preserved throughout history. But then one day randomly decides to take it down and start painting over it trying to improve it, but ultimately just ends up covering the original art he\she created. And they can’t undo it. But hey, maybe I’m wrong! I sure hope so.
Reminds me of the Jesus painting, it was repainted on by this random woman who thought she she could 'fix' it. Because it was losing paint due to it being old and on a pillar. But, she absolutely ruined it and now it looks awful. She also did it on her own accord, no one wanted it to be repainted. Same type of thing, remaking something that is still good and making it awful.
I wanted to see more of this beloved franchise but I knew it was time to say goodbye.... Dreamworks didn't however and decided to fuck up my day with this god awful teaser that I'm now just hearing about. if they really wanted to do bring this franchise back, in a way that fans would love, imo would be a new TV series set between the second and third movies, where we follow hiccup and co and his adventures in being the new chief and how berk ends up with millions of dragons by the 3rd movie, imo there could be so many amazing stories to be told in a series like that
for every single "optimist" for this show, listen. 1. the animation instantly doesn't look pleasing, (looks like RTTE which came out years ago) 2. the dragon the main protagonist of the show is riding has a striking resemblance with Dart which is sad to see because the dragons have to come out and OFCOURSE it has to be one of toothless' descendants where their story should have been up to interpretation 3. a large reason why httyd was so successful was that it was set in the Viking era which added to the fantasy feel and they got rid of that. 4. they changed the COMPLETLY amazing fury design and made it look, unlike a normal FURY. this is a problem because the appearance should be consistent with the trilogy if it's going to be CANON (which I and the majority of people would HATE) 5. basically non of the people who helped with the movies or atleast RTTE (exept for one) helped with this god forbidden show. 6 the way this looks, if this white boy end up being one of hiccup haddocks decendants or he meets some decendants of the original dragon riders me AND all these other httyd fans are going to jump out of our nearest window. 7. LAST but certainly not LEAST if this show flops, (which it most likely will) its going to permanantly taint the legacy HTTYD left.
it's fine, just let them be optimists if they want do lol. and as for you last point, a lot of httyd fans already think the third film completely ruined the Httyd trilogy already, so they're pretty jaded already, this new series can't be much worse. To me this series does not look good at all compared to the 1st and 2nd HTTYD movies, but then again we have just seen 30 seconds, and with how the HTTYD franchise as been going on, what can we even expect at this point.

What we need is like 70 years after httyd 3 Hiccup and Astrid’s grandkids find the hidden world and they train Toothless and the Light fury’s grandkids. Then as a season final the dragons return to Berk and we get the reunions. Then next season it’s like the beginning of Riders of Berk where they have to figure out how to integrate the dragons in to the world again. Also all the original characters will be alive and their dragons.

I hate this new series for multiple reasons: 1. Now when I think of httyd I have to think of this because everyone else is dead. 2. They could've done something like hiccup's kids want to find out more of dragons and toothless's kids want to explore the world so they all go on a journey. 3. Bet all the cast are gonna be descendants of the original which is dumb.
Me also being a super fan, my thoughts are that this series isn't needed but it's still nice that the story is continuing. I decided to think of it as Toy Story 4 compared to Toy Story 3, it isn't needed and the series is fine without it but it was still enjoyable to watch and wasn't a cash grab. I'm just keeping my opion about this series vague until it comes out, it could be great or terrible.

3:46 A bit off topic, but did is anyone else worried about "Shrek5?" o_0 I did enjoy Homecoming for the fact that it showed us of the Night Lights and Hiccup's kids, and we got to see them living with their families, although I was really disappointed that Valka just... disapeared, and that they went really heavy on the "making fun of Hiccup" line. They basically erased all of his accomplishments with stopping the war on dragons and stuff after just one generation. This is just my guess (and don’t correct me when it actually comes out because I will know) cliché kid finds out he has connection with hiccup from a book or something, tries to tell everyone but no one believes him, then goes on an adventure to find the “dragon place” or something to prove to people dragons _do_ exist, then befriends a dragon near instantly, or other way, tries to befriend it for a few days. Some stuff happens, then goes home, says “look guys I found a dragon y’all were wrong”, then everyone is like “oh ok yeah cool”. But there is a villan that gets defeated by “the power of the super” or gains understanding of friendship and is now friends with them. Or of course they just up and die. Cue happy ending. TLDR: wierd kid finds dragon after being doubted, then is now happy

Anyone remember that awful Rise of the Brave Tangled Frozen Dragons crossover that was everywhere in the fandom?? Yup the protagonist looks like one of those god awful OC fan made son character who's parents are Jack Frost and Elsa because the creator has no original thought or ideas 😒 just doing to secure their stupid Jelsa ship. Seriously I would had love a continuation to the original story and focusing on Hiccup's and Astrid's children. This modern day setting and possible hint of multiverse travel (that whole nine realms title) really just makes the ending to the original series feel like a tragedy that Hiccup wasn't able to reunited humans and dragons but instead is less than impressive descendant did. It's like a mediocre fanfiction. And already betting on the Bingo clique, the protagonist is a descendant of Hiccup because of course he is.
I dont mind the set up or anything but the fury design needs more work and the flight animation from what little Ive seen looks really stiff but we'll see how this turns out
I’m not as mad as you are about Dragons the nine realms But I’m going to give this show a chance because it’s canon Also I think the rider is going to be a descendant of Hiccup & Astrid and the dragon will be a descendant of Toothless & the Light Fury I guess the reason why it’s set 1300 years in the future is so it won’t effect the story of HTTYD And personally the only problem with this show is the design of the dragons Not just the Night Light Fury the guy is riding but the other three dragons that was shown They just look so derpy and ugly I don’t like it The dragons in the main franchise looked so much better
one of the main things about this trailer that grinds my gears is how wretched and ugly the dragon looks. of course, it could be due to inbreeding or evolution, but it's ugly. and evolution over 1,300 years wouldn't be so drastic... something about this show is just off in my opinion.
I am so glad the the statement "your studio had nothing going for it" died in 2022 with bad guys and puss in boots 2, I'm not getting my hopes up too high for Shrek 5 but I can dream ig, but this whole nine realms thing that has been going on for the past year is so weird and wacky I just can't even be frustrated. It has happened a million time and it will a million times again. So I have just accepted it by now.
Omg, I'm so glad I've found someone who hated Homecoming just as much as me. They mocked the series with that garbage excuse for a holiday special and made a joke out of Stoick's death, one of the most heart wrenching moments in the franchise. The way the characters acted in that short that lasted too long was a disgrace. I whole heartedly feel that it was certainly not the way, canonically, that the characters would have actually behaved. It felt like the creators took everything I loved from my late teens - early 20's and crapped on it. Also don't think this series looks good. The animation quality is poor, the plot is lazy, and it drags the HTTYD series out when it should be left well enough alone. Let us just enjoy it for what it was instead of trying to milk the name for everything it's worth. (◞‸◟；) Edit: There's going to be a Shrek 5? Oh dear... My only problem with this video is that toothlesses kids have a very high chance of not being inbred because there are other light furies no night furies tho(sad) and and they appear on the same scene where Drago's bewilderbeast makes a cameo
I've seen the books in a national bookstore once, looked very interesting to see toothless sit on hiccups shoulder, but we couldn't get it because we were just shopping for project things, but I think I'll ask my parents to buy one of the books if they can

I just finished the series. While it’s not the worst in the world by a long shot, with the right setting, higher animation budget, better writing and character development, and especially keeping within the original franchise’s continuity and world building, it could’ve been so much better.
You know what would be cool? A Rise of the guardians show! I want to see Jack and Tooth as a couple with thier kids, fighting a new villain. Maybe one based on Krampus. He could capture kids and put them in glasses balls then they would be chased by scary monsters. Jamie's friends could be kidnapped by Krampus then Sophie and him have to rescue them with the guardian's help. That would be fun to see :) There's so many things the producers could do with a show like that. Too bad we don't have one!

I'm on the fence about Dragons: The Nine Realms but I'm eager to see it none the less. My only request for DreamWorks......Please...Please...PLEEEAAASE treat the masterpiece that is the How To Train Your Dragon franchise with respect so do not turn this project into a joke that will insult the HTTYD franchise for all eternity. Personally I think they should have just let the franchise have its curtain call as it ended with dignity, and if they really wanted another spin-off why not tell about Hiccup's children or of a time between the second and third movie the way Race to the Edge was set between the first and second film. Also what I can't understand with DreamWorks is if they want to make a spin-off or sequel to a story then why not make a sequel to movies that never got a full ending, for example: • Rise of the Guardians. The movie Rise of the Guardians was in my opinion very good and worthy of a sequel but it was left off after the first movie leaving more questions than answers such as 'What happened between the Easter Bunny and Jack Frost during the blizzard of 68?'. The film was based of the books 'The Guardians of Childhood' which is a treasure trove of content that could easily make a sequel and a series or two, so if DreamWorks wants to make a sequel or series then why not complete the Rise of the Guardians that was never fully completed.
I think just like exapt for that it is over than i wished for a Series that shows us how Hiccup and Astrid become the familiy we know in the Homecoming short and i still hope that it comes. But I'am just as angry as you are that it playes 1300 years so in the 24th centuary ( I come to this conclusion thanks to the dragons wintersport shorts where they show us the year 1010) and that is just sad.
I just hope this series is not canon like, an alternate universe/timeline where this is one of the main differences and that it never happened in the original one but on an alternate one then I would be more ok with it, cause ngl I did kinda wanted a httyd series in the present, but then money ruined it

Personally, I'm not at all a fan of the idea. I completely agree they should just leave it alone. It's not a dead franchise, it's retired and it finished properly. The little of what we've seen of this show does not look promising either. But the existence of this show is not going to make my life any worse either. If I'm being honest, I can't wait for this series. It's a concept that I've thought about for such a long time and I'm extremely intrigued. I may not be too happy about the art style but I can work past it if the show is good. now, I'm going to talk about the ending to the third httyd movie...I feel that many people didn't understand what the ending was telling us: hiccup and the vikings were not saying goodbye to the dragons, they were saying see ya later to the dragons. hiccup claimed that the world was not ready for the dragons yet and he was right, only a select few islands in the archipelago owned and rode dragons...so they set them free. the whole point of 'homecoming' (while on the surface, it did undermine the ending of the third film) wasn't too focused on the lore or anything, it was a nice family short to show that even though dragons don't live anywhere near the vikings, they can still go visit and be welcomed which works both ways. going back to the series now, it makes sense. of course the hidden world (which I assume is what causes the fissure) would mess things up in the modern world and of course it would attract scientists from all over the world. having a bunch of teenagers be our protagonists is a little generic but it's a nice tie in to hiccup and his team and having them be teenagers on the run could make for a gripping plot. my final point is that I would not mind at all if, let's call him jack, ends up being a descendant of hiccup. It would again be very generic but it's absolutely plausible. this series could do wonders for old and new fans alike.
Well, it is good, I just finished season 4. But eveyone dosent understand that if dreamworks did hiccups kids riding dragons and not this, it wouldn’t have a major twist, witch there for, they would lose money. So stop hating.

I love httyd way more than what's healthy, but the animation and designs for this spinoff (especially for the dragons) are horrific and personally I think the storyline seems like there's a lot that can go wrong with it, (and probably will). They should've left well enough alone, I agree with you.

So.. instead of doing a series about Hiccup's kid growing up then finding a new species of dragon and becoming friends with them, which would be cute and fun to see, Dreamwork made a spin-off about a random guy and Toothless's descendant? First, that's not very creative! Second, it's not interresting. Third, the guy sounds like a show off. Just the '' My favorite dragon story is about me! '' is soooo pretentious! If he's like that during the entire show, i'm not gonna love this character :S If he's not likable, clumsy or funny i won't love him either! In short, this series sounds really boring.

Reminds me of the Jesus painting, it was repainted on by this random woman who thought she she could 'fix' it. Because it was losing paint due to it being old and on a pillar. But, she absolutely ruined it and now it looks awful. She also did it on her own accord, no one wanted it to be repainted. Same type of thing, remaking something that is still good and making it awful.
I wanted to see more of this beloved franchise but I knew it was time to say goodbye....
Dreamworks didn't however and decided to fuck up my day with this god awful teaser that I'm now just hearing about. But you may be saying, "This is only a teaser, not even 2 minutes long," yeah well here's the thing, I DON'T CARE! It may be a bit rude to say this but I just can't take this to heart easily.
if they really wanted to do bring this franchise back, in a way that fans would love, imo would be a new TV series set between the second and third movies, where we follow hiccup and co and his adventures in being the new chief and how berk ends up with millions of dragons by the 3rd movie, imo there could be so many amazing stories to be told in a series like that
for every single "optimist" for this show, listen.
1. the animation instantly doesn't look pleasing, (looks like RTTE which came out years ago)
2. the dragon the main protagonist of the show is riding has a striking resemblance with Dart which is sad to see because the dragons have to come out and OFCOURSE it has to be one of toothless' descendants where their story should have been up to interpretation
3. a large reason why httyd was so successful was that it was set in the Viking era which added to the fantasy feel and they got rid of that.
4. they changed the COMPLETLY amazing fury design and made it look, unlike a normal FURY. this is a problem because the appearance should be consistent with the trilogy if it's going to be CANON (which I and the majority of people would HATE)
5. basically non of the people who helped with the movies or atleast RTTE (exept for one) helped with this god forbidden show.
6 the way this looks, if this white boy end up being one of hiccup haddocks decendants or he meets some decendants of the original dragon riders me AND all these other httyd fans are going to jump out of our nearest window.
7. LAST but certainly not LEAST if this show flops, (which it most likely will) its going to permanantly taint the legacy HTTYD left.

To me this series does not look good at all compared to the 1st and 2nd HTTYD movies, but then again we have just seen 30 seconds, and with how the HTTYD franchise as been going on, what can we even expect at this point.

And also, the whole entire purpose of a trailer is to give the audience something to JUDGE if it would be worth it to watch.
What we need is like 70 years after httyd 3 Hiccup and Astrid’s grandkids find the hidden world and they train Toothless and the Light fury’s grandkids. Then as a season final the dragons return to Berk and we get the reunions. Then next season it’s like the beginning of Riders of Berk where they have to figure out how to integrate the dragons in to the world again.
Also all the original characters will be alive and their dragons.
And then you see Gothi at like 150-160 years old still alive.
just... no. repeating the same thing usually just does not work. And as much as i love Astrid and Hiccup i think their stories are over... maybe we can see them as leaders, i am curious how they would be doing with that but i do not really need much of their children.

I hate this new series for multiple reasons:
1. Now when I think of httyd I have to think of this because everyone else is dead.
2. They could've done something like hiccup's kids want to find out more of dragons and toothless's kids want to explore the world so they all go on a journey.
3. Bet all the cast are gonna be descendants of the original which is dumb.
Me also being a super fan, my thoughts are that this series isn't needed but it's still nice that the story is continuing. I decided to think of it as Toy Story 4 compared to Toy Story 3, it isn't needed and the series is fine without it but it was still enjoyable to watch and wasn't a cash grab. I'm just keeping my opion about this series vague until it comes out, it could be great or terrible.

I did enjoy Homecoming for the fact that it showed us of the Night Lights and Hiccup's kids, and we got to see them living with their families, although I was really disappointed that Valka just... disapeared, and that they went really heavy on the "making fun of Hiccup" line. They basically erased all of his accomplishments with stopping the war on dragons and stuff after just one generation. I mean, you would've thought all the adults would still tell stories about their chief defeating the Red Death and Drago Bludvist and all...
This is just my guess (and don’t correct me when it actually comes out because I will know) cliché kid finds out he has connection with hiccup from a book or something, tries to tell everyone but no one believes him, then goes on an adventure to find the “dragon place” or something to prove to people dragons _do_ exist, then befriends a dragon near instantly, or other way, tries to befriend it for a few days. Some stuff happens, then goes home, says “look guys I found a dragon y’all were wrong”, then everyone is like “oh ok yeah cool”. But there is a villan that gets defeated by “the power of the super” or gains understanding of friendship and is now friends with them. Or of course they just up and die. Cue happy ending.
TLDR: wierd kid finds dragon after being doubted, then is now happy

Seriously I would had love a continuation to the original story and focusing on Hiccup's and Astrid's children. This modern day setting and possible hint of multiverse travel (that whole nine realms title) really just makes the ending to the original series feel like a tragedy that Hiccup wasn't able to reunited humans and dragons but instead is less than impressive descendant did. It's like a mediocre fanfiction.
And already betting on the Bingo clique, the protagonist is a descendant of Hiccup because of course he is.
I dont mind the set up or anything but the fury design needs more work and the flight animation from what little Ive seen looks really stiff but we'll see how this turns out

Omg, I'm so glad I've found someone who hated Homecoming just as much as me. They mocked the series with that garbage excuse for a holiday special and made a joke out of Stoick's death, one of the most heart wrenching moments in the franchise. The way the characters acted in that short that lasted too long was a disgrace. I whole heartedly feel that it was certainly not the way, canonically, that the characters would have actually behaved. It felt like the creators took everything I loved from my late teens - early 20's and crapped on it.
Also don't think this series looks good. The animation quality is poor, the plot is lazy, and it drags the HTTYD series out when it should be left well enough alone. Let us just enjoy it for what it was instead of trying to milk the name for everything it's worth. (◞‸◟；)

I just finished the series. While it’s not the worst in the world by a long shot, with the right setting, higher animation budget, better writing and character development, and especially keeping within the original franchise’s continuity and world building, it could’ve been so much better.
You know what would be cool? A Rise of the guardians show! I want to see Jack and Tooth as a couple with thier kids, fighting a new villain. Maybe one based on Krampus. He could capture kids and put them in glasses balls then they would be chased by scary monsters. Jamie's friends could be kidnapped by Krampus then Sophie and him have to rescue them with the guardian's help. That would be fun to see :) There's so many things the producers could do with a show like that. Too bad we don't have one!
I still hope that they'll make an prequel with the backstory of stoick or the adventures of hiccups mother.

I'm on the fence about Dragons: The Nine Realms but I'm eager to see it none the less.
My only request for DreamWorks......Please...Please...PLEEEAAASE treat the masterpiece that is the How To Train Your Dragon franchise with respect so do not turn this project into a joke that will insult the HTTYD franchise for all eternity.
Personally I think they should have just let the franchise have its curtain call as it ended with dignity, and if they really wanted another spin-off why not tell about Hiccup's children or of a time between the second and third movie the way Race to the Edge was set between the first and second film.
Also what I can't understand with DreamWorks is if they want to make a spin-off or sequel to a story then why not make a sequel to movies that never got a full ending, for example:
• Rise of the Guardians. The movie Rise of the Guardians was in my opinion very good and worthy of a sequel but it was left off after the first movie leaving more questions than answers such as 'What happened between the Easter Bunny and Jack Frost during the blizzard of 68?'. The film was based of the books 'The Guardians of Childhood' which is a treasure trove of content that could easily make a sequel and a series or two, so if DreamWorks wants to make a sequel or series then why not complete the Rise of the Guardians that was never fully completed.
I think just like exapt for that it is over than i wished for a Series that shows us how Hiccup and Astrid become the familiy we know in the Homecoming short and i still hope that it comes. But I'am just as angry as you are that it playes 1300 years so in the 24th centuary ( I come to this conclusion thanks to the dragons wintersport shorts where they show us the year 1010) and that is just sad.
I just hope this series is not canon like, an alternate universe/timeline where this is one of the main differences and that it never happened in the original one but on an alternate one

If I'm being honest, I can't wait for this series. It's a concept that I've thought about for such a long time and I'm extremely intrigued. I may not be too happy about the art style but I can work past it if the show is good.
now, I'm going to talk about the ending to the third httyd movie...I feel that many people didn't understand what the ending was telling us: hiccup and the vikings were not saying goodbye to the dragons, they were saying see ya later to the dragons. hiccup claimed that the world was not ready for the dragons yet and he was right, only a select few islands in the archipelago owned and rode dragons...so they set them free. the whole point of 'homecoming' (while on the surface, it did undermine the ending of the third film) wasn't too focused on the lore or anything, it was a nice family short to show that even though dragons don't live anywhere near the vikings, they can still go visit and be welcomed which works both ways.
going back to the series now, it makes sense. of course the hidden world (which I assume is what causes the fissure) would mess things up in the modern world and of course it would attract scientists from all over the world. having a bunch of teenagers be our protagonists is a little generic but it's a nice tie in to hiccup and his team and having them be teenagers on the run could make for a gripping plot.
my final point is that I would not mind at all if, let's call him jack, ends up being a descendant of hiccup. It would again be very generic but it's absolutely plausible. this series could do wonders for old and new fans alike.

So.. instead of doing a series about Hiccup's kid growing up then finding a new species of dragon and becoming friends with them, which would be cute and fun to see, Dreamwork made a spin-off about a random guy and Toothless's descendant? First, that's not very creative! Second, it's not interresting. Third, the guy sounds like a show off. Just the '' My favorite dragon story is about me! '' is soooo pretentious! If he's like that during the entire show, i'm not gonna love this character :S If he's not likable, clumsy or funny i won't love him either! In short, this series sounds really boring.
