My son had an expressive speech delay, and I'm doing my best to do what his teachers do which is also what you recommend: getting down on his level, narrate what we're doing. He is babbling more, but everyone else around me is more frustrated because of the delay.

Babbling more is excellent progress! I know it may feel small but that is a huge step in the right direction :)

I didn’t know you had a channel! My son is I think what you’d classify as a late talker (28M was the word explosion). He’s now trying to put together 4-5 word sentences (33M) but I think the stuttering is beginning to follow. Ex. He sees an airplane and says “Airplane! Big big big big big airplane!” Not sure if that is a stutter or if his brain was trying to form something longer and can’t lol.

Just started it!! Sounds like your son’s language skills are excellent! It is typical to repeat words like that as kids start to form longer sentences :)

Great video! My son is 18mo and does well with mimicking sounds and repeating words. He really wants to talk and I really want to understand him. Rihgt now he is an avid babbler. He will hold a full babbled conversation with others and although it is super adorable, there are times when he is trying to express a want and I have no idea what he is saying. I am going to keep an I on your page and consider purchasing the course because I want to understand him and I don't like to see him frustrated because he is not be understood.

Hi! I’m so glad this video was helpful. What you’re describing is called “jargon” and os a normal part of language development. That said, you’re right that children that age are typically using a few words as well. By 24 months, the jargon is happening less than 50% of the time. Have you tried introducing sign language to relieve some frustration.

Thank you. This is very informative. How do we know it is or isn’t Autism? It seems like people assume the child is autistic because they may not be using expressive speech. My daughter is delayed with expressive but is good with receptive.

Great question! Autism is a neurotype that involves more than just differences in language development, so late talking alone or delayed expressive speech alone is not enough to determine with a child is autistic. I recommend checking out @MrsSpeechieP on Instagram, she has so much excellent information about ASD vs Language Delay.

@@raisinglittletalkersthank you, my 3.5 year old isn’t expressing her needs or communicating but she understands and she has the receptive skills. She is just starting to repeat everything. We had her tested for autism yesterday and they said she should have been doing this at 2 so we aren’t sure if it is autism related or a severe delay. She is highly intelligent with cognitive functions (ahead of her age) but just isn’t communicating. She has a high vocabulary because she repeats everything and we hear her also repeat everything that is on her shows on her tablet. She is very much capable but just isn’t using the words.

Sounds like you’re doing a lot to get her the support she needs going forward! And just for your info and any other parent reading this-autism and/or language delay doesn’t mean anything about your child’s intelligence. Sounds like she’s bright and needs help communicating 🧡

I have a 15-month-old with no words at all. He only started babbling recently and the babble is infrequent and only includes ba, ma and da. He has only two gestures: A head shake and a clap. He doesn't imitate. I'm concerned but nobody is taking me seriously.

Hi! I am so sorry I am only seeing this now. Your son will be 21 months now, how is he doing?
