I feel like the conversation around buying monitors stops after simply saying, "you need a color accurate monitor," when talking about color grading and video editing. So I wanted to talk about how to choose the best monitor for your situation.
Thankyou for this great content. Very helpful!
Great video! Glad youtube recommened it, however I would advice for a full 100% P3 Monitor if you're working with HDR material
If you're working with HDR Material, 99% is just fine. The monitor I recommended is 99.5%. 100% DCI P3 monitors are not only rare currently, but are also out of most operators price range. I'm not in the business of coming to UA-cam and recommending a $25,000 display to someone. People who need those displays know about them
As stated, you're going to want the highest in the categories. As time goes on and 100% DCI-P3 is common, that statement should take care of that issue.
What would be your recommendations for a monitor to connect to Mac book pro M1? I'm looking for a monitor that's not apple although apple is probably the best way to go, but budget won't allow it. Please I would appreciate a video or recommendations as I'm so confused with all of the hyoe around new stuff, I just want reliable long term stuff that just works. I hope I made sense. Thanks again 🙏
Thanks for this video - was really helpful - because of budget constrains and physical space , if you were to invest in a new oled monitor more budget friendly - would you opt for 32'' UltraGear™ OLED Gaming Monitor with Dual Mode and Pixel Sound -32GS95UE-B it comes with VESA DisplayHDR™ TrueBlack 400 with up to 98.5% DCI-P3 color gamut - Contrast Ratio 1500000:1 - Color Depth (Number of Colors) 1.07 for the final output.-Thanks for this video once again
Hello friend, could you compare side by side who is more flexible in Blackmagic RAW vs N RAW?
N raw. It’s real raw.
those bullets tho...
you forgot bit-dept
I didn’t mention it you’re right; however, if your display is HDR capable, it’s a 10bit display. That’s really where bit depth is going to matter the most.
SDR only has 709 color primaries: hence rec709. That translates to about 16 million different colors; which, in turn, translates to 8bit. So if you aren’t mastering in HDR you’re not going to benefit from 10 bit. The footage won’t band but you’re export is confined to those colors alone. But again, all HDR displays are 10bit (some camera monitors are 8bit+2bit FRC but that’s the camera world). What’s going to be more important that bit depth is peak brightness as some hdr monitors only go up to 600nits when you really should have a minimum of 700
@@sidneybakergreen thank for concise explanation, this open new perspective for me...
