    you would think with all the features, they would also have a brightness setting. that way you can dim the flux if it is too bright in the room. problem solved.

    I have had the Flux for a year now and with the selection of disks you can buy it wins hands down for realism, i particularly like the overlay disk that can be added to the sky disks and shows all the trees round the edges, it really gives a sense of being in a forest clearing at night.
    PS the "taiga" forest disc can be found at Astrial discs.

    I've got the Flux version a while back, but at almost twice the price of the Original I wonder if it was actually worth it. It's impressive, but it does keep you awake with its brightness. The Original seems better if you want mood lighting for sleeping or something.

    Thank you Mark for posting this comparison. Part of my job is tuning star fields at a planetarium. I have a Homestar original at home for family use. Your review intrigues me. You've compared how each looks out of the box but it's difficult to get that across through video. I'm wondering if however, you can compare Apples to Apples getting down to the engineering of the projector themselves. For example, 1) use the same star disc in both the Flux and Homestar. Then we can rule out star fields as a variable. More and Bright discs like the Flux disc are breathtaking but not very realistic and crazy hard to find constellations with. 2) Judge brightness from the same star disc. Does the Flux actually have more lumens or is it just having more (and larger) stars on it's plate? (i.e. brighter)
    3) Perhaps the MOST important, is optics and focus quality. I've seen in your video (as at my house) that focus of the Homestar is relegated to a relatively small portion of the viewable area. The stars on the periphery have smears or can't be focused. It would be really neat to set up your tests with same disc, room position and get it be focused best with no rotation. Then zoom camera in on same constellations both near zenith and edges to see if indeed optics are actually better. DOES the Flux have better sky wide focus? If the Flux has better optics, I'd buy one in a heartbeat and put in the original disc. Cheers!

      Very good question! I was actually also wondering if the FLUX looked too unrealistic with its brightness. A dimmer would have been the solution to a simple problem, I guess ;)

    • @daniellawson6585
      @daniellawson6585 4 роки тому

      Completely agree! If indeed the optics are better in the Flux, perhaps an optic filter to reduce the brightness would work best instead of a dimmer which might be more work to hack especially if the LED is not dimmable.

    Purchased the Flux a few days ago after seeing there were reviews on it. I moved to a the suburbs and can see and take photos of the night sky which resembles the Flux 100 percent. Mind you looking up at the stars and rotating yourself is just an awe inspiring experience. With Winter over but Spring here I still have a while till I see a clear night so yes I need to see them and this is a great option I believe. Looking at photos is great even on a big screen but I would enjoy the rotation as I manually rotate myself when seeing them. I hope it lives up to my expectations especially because I live in a historic home and the ceilings are high and large. I found the original was still very realistic but again I recall the brightness of reality and that is the flux not the original. Thank you for reviewing this for me. I plan on having sounds of crickets on while watching. I can’t wait to finally relax with all this “other stuff” in the world going on. Thank you again for the reviews- your friend from Canada.

      Hello! What are your thoughts on the flux?

    • @eradanslherbe
      @eradanslherbe 4 роки тому +2

      Cassidy Rose I tried it on 12 foot ceilings and 8 foot. On the 12 foot ceilings it will not focus at all. It’s exhausting to look at it to be honest. On the 8 foot ones it does focus but not entirely on a large patch of stars and also the edges. I think it also goes blurry after a while and I have to refocus using the focus ring. For that purpose I will be sending it back. I do know that if I had a textured ceiling, say popcorn, it would look like the stars are twinkling. I like the thought of it but for 250 CAD it’s not worth it. There are very many stars and as soon as you turn it on it wows you but then when your eyes adjust you realize it will always remain blurry. I also found that it stops rotating as well. I must have gotten someone else’s dud and will ask for a replacement if still blurry on the 8 foot ceilings they can keep it. The large and medium stars have a blue and red tinge just like the tictok app colours. It is very distracting. I see these stars in real life so this was purchased for cold winter nights. Maybe by next year they will come out with a new one. I waited 21 days to be disappointed. If it was clear, even with the edges blurry I would keep it. Hope this helped some.

      @@eradanslherbe hi era. Thanks for your write ups. I have high popcorn ceilings. Would you recommend I go with the original? Is it only the flux that is blurry, or is the original also blurry? What is the max recommended distance away from the ceiling to place the projector? Thanks.

    • @eradanslherbe
      @eradanslherbe 4 роки тому +1

      Jacob I only have the Flux. It is not as bright as you think. The only clear part is about a foot radius from the center while the rest is blurry. The most blurry, which is appalling, is this the other end of the large gathered stars. If you hold it in your hand to a wall about 2 feet away it is clear excluding that one area that remains blurry. The focus ring also moves on its own. So what you end up with is constantly having to re-focus for something you have to stare at dead center. Customer service was kind and gave me a return label but as I asked them over and over for another to be sent out after they received mine I got zero response. I assume I got someone else’s and are weary to repurchase after the non-response. Careful you may get mine or someone else’s used one. Took 3 business weeks to get to Canada just so you know. If the Flux isn’t as bright as it seems, unless you view it through your phone which is ridiculous, I would be weary to buy it Jacob. Go to amazon and try to figure out which reviews are not from the seller. All my best :)

    Why don't you show the same view for all 3 units? When you do the side-by-side comparison at 4:45, you've used a bland starfield the Nat Geo and Sega Original, while the Flux has a galaxy. That's kind of weighted, don't you think? Using a more impressive image for the unit you prefer seems to show a little bias, no?
    Aside from that, why does the Flux's image at 4:45 show far less stars opposite the galaxy than the image at 4:08? The difference is drastic!

    Hi I'm thinking of getting a Homestar Flux for other half for Xmas, but we have an artex ceiling (with the little dimples) - does anyone know if this will ruin the effect? We don't have a completely smooth/flat ceiling in the house and it will be a lot of money if it doesn't work :) Maybe because it's a high quality projection it won't be an issue, but if anyone has experience of projecting onto a non-smooth ceiling I'd love to hear your comments, thanks!
