  • Join us as we explore the enriching thesis of Konain Zehra, a graduating student of Textile Design Technology, Class of 2024. Her thesis, titled "Fading Bloom: The Adapting Significance of Jasmine in Pakistani Culture," delves into the cultural importance of jasmine, known as "چنبیلی" in Urdu.
Konain's work highlights jasmine's symbolism of purity, grace, and beauty in Pakistani culture, addressing its diminishing usage despite its historical significance. Through her main technique of printing, and additional methods like screen printing, fabric manipulation, and embellishment, Konain showcases jasmine motifs and colors inspired by the flower itself.
Her product line includes a duvet featuring jasmine prints and quilted detailing, along with five decorative cushions embellished with 3D fabric manipulation and screen printing. Additionally, she presents two unique lamps-one in white on white and the other in green-each adorned with screen printing and embellishment techniques.
Konain's thesis uses an ethnographic framework, aiming to raise awareness about environmental sustainability and cultural diversity while advocating for the preservation of natural jasmine. Subscribe to witness how Konain Zehra's artistic endeavor celebrates the enduring significance of jasmine in Pakistani heritage.
