    My uncle bought my an Effector in 1981. I painted his boat and he bought the guitar. It was stolen a year later out of my high school band room. My uncle paid $212 for the original one. I just paid $600 for one in 2024.

      That was a great token of appreciation from your uncle! Pity scum stole it though! Glad you have another, they are getting pretty rare! Have fun with it they play great, though the Fx are probably not so great given their age. That said who cares! they look awesome! I am going to do a crazy comparison vid between my Effector and my Gibson Explorer. Thanks for watching and really appreciate your comment.

    You think you've seen it all and then something like this comes along! Yeah, those built in effects would have been quite something in the 80s. But not putting in a pickup selector switch? That's crazy 🤪

    • @stevegroves
      @stevegroves  Рік тому +2

      Yep totally nuts! The pick ups are pretty good really and a switch would have made these guitars so much better. The 80s was a crazy time for guitars thats for sure!

      @@stevegrovesif I get one, I’ll mod it to have a selector, maybe replace the tone knob for it

      Definitely worth doing these are decent enough guitars to spend a bit of effort on@@masonkertson9774

    This was my first guitar 33ish years ago. Bought it out of the news paper. It was black.

      Think they would have made a great first guitar, quite playable

    This was the first electric guitar I got when I was 14 in 1985. I'd love to find another just for nostalgic reasons!

      Cool! This would have made a superb first guitar! My wife picked mine up from my mates shop as a birthday present, its a keeper, weird pick up wiring but they play really well with great tone :) Thanks for watching and for the comment, much appreciated.

    I wish I'd kept mine. I traded it for two Stadium Speakers and a Direct box. I miss the old SEARS Catalog. They had some cool Cheap Guitars. I still have my Kay Effector and Dean Jammer II.

      All these old guitars are becoming quite collectable now, some can be set up to play pretty well. I also have a Kay audition / top 20 type and a Teisco Volletta, great fun. The Cort Effector does sound pretty good and is nice to play. I regret selling a few of mine too.

    I've got one of these that was left out in the weather... The electronics are shot, except maybe the pickups. The body and neck are fine. I put it together with just the bridge and the tuning machines put some stings. It plays nice and has amazing sustain because of the hardwood neck so I am planning on just putting simple electronics in it. I also want to replace the bridge. The original electronics is bonkers though.

      Its great that you are going to save and use it. They play really well, as you state the neck is really good. The effects were probably pretty cool in the day but not great by todays standards. The pups seem pretty good, with conventional set up reckon you will have a really good guitar.

    I have a black one exactly like that! My friend gave it to me in 1992. It actually plays really good, just don't bother with the effects!

      Cool! Yeh they are actually really playable guitars, but yep those FX are not great these days!

    I saw one of these in a pawnshop 30 years ago and until today, I never knew what kind of guitar it was.

    The very first guitar I ever had was one of these. Someone had hacked the crap out of it and put in a middle pickup and none of the effects worked. I couldn’t have cared less-I just thought it was so cool to have a guitar. I think it ended up going to a Viking death on my dad’s trash burn pile once I moved out. I wouldn’t mind getting another one of these and hot rodding the hell out of it!! LOL

      @stevegroves  Рік тому +1

      Thats a sad end for your guitar! Yep I reckon these are good enough to really make use off, the pick ups are good as is the neck, the basics of a great fun guitar are all there! Hope you find one :)

    i had one of these back in the late 90's, had to trade my most prized guitar (Univox les paul....total regrets on that part). It was a very awesome guitar but those fx were terrible! If one day i find myself with more $ than i know what to do with, i will definitely seek another one of these out....then i would have a modern version custom made with today's fx . LOL...i wonder if anyone has tried that yet
