I am not artistic. So, it is very cool that the world is blessed with people like Lori McKenna. I've been a fan since seeing the profile written about her in the Financial Times a few years ago. Her lyrics resonate, inspire, and move. Just listened to this track for the first time, and watched the video. The lyrics definitely resonate - many years of marriage, several kids, and lots of miles on these tires ... we've crossed some chasms. As said, I'm not artistic, so I might be seeing this incorrectly, but I found an interesting juxtaposition between the imagery of boxing - where the fight is 'vertical' ... one wins and one loses - and the lyrics which sound to me of a fight to sustain a relationship - where the sparring between partners is to restore collaboration, and to preserve the 'horizontal / peer' nature of a relationship - where one partner is not superior to the other and on the same level, therefore horizontal. I really like how Lori makes me think, on this - the initial effect is a sort of cognitive dissonance, which compels me to dig deeper. And, again, enjoy her music. Thank you!!
