@pinkiewerewolf I do love the knife. It's just that I use a knife heavily and like a stiffer action. Other than that it is really nice. We all have different uses and preferences for a knife. It's good that there are so many to choose from!
Great safety point there. Seeing as how I'm approaching 65 years, everything like this I can do to keep me out of the urgent care is a plus.... Sitting around on the couch all day ain't an option. I use my knives all day practically every day. Appreciate these fine points, Ken.
I love the knife in every other way. The combination of a weak detent and no kick is a deal breaker for me. Staying out of the ER is a good thing! I am 56 so you are a little ahead of me, but I don't like the ER either!
Interesting knife. I have thought about getting one a couple times but just haven’t picked one up yet. I like the blade shape and the micarta. I guess what’s held me back was the detent design over the back spring as you mentioned. Thanks for the video.
Hey Ken I hear what you’re saying completely……. But man I can’t give up my federalist I love that knife……. Thanks so much for showing and explaining what that knife is before you purchase it…… stay safe out there😊
It's a tough one! I love the Federalist, but I am at the point now in collecting that I want to be a little fussier with what I buy. I am not buying many knives now and just getting what I really want. I have enough different patterns and variations so it's time to move on to another stage in collecting. I would bet most people go through different stages, or it could be that I am just weird !🤪🤪🤪
Ive got the same one Ken! I like it a lot but yes they should have made it a slipjoint like the Buck Saunter. I dig it for light use and Dont carry it as much as I thought. A liner lock would have worked also.
A couple years back when I first saw that knife, I really wanted one because I like the looks of it. Handled one in a local store, and because of the way the detent felt, I passed on it. I'd much rather have a backspring as well. Still a great looking knife, though. Cheers, buddy!
The ORJ's are nice, but the Lake Champlain series are killer. The lager barlow was a Lake Champlain. I also have one in a clip point that is also quite nice.
I actually really like the Federalist. I haven't had any issues with it closing on me but I do think you make great points here Ken. Thanks for the great comparisons and video as always!
I really like the knife too and have never had an issue with a slipjoint closing, but I do like a kick on a knife that has a weak detent or spring. if it wasn't for that the knife is awesome in every other way.
not a bad looking knife. too bad its not what you were hoping for. safety is always a concern to me on any folding knife. I always picture the blade shutting on me..
Slipjoints need to be treated with care by always applying pressure in a way that keeps the blade open. It's just that his one has a very weak detent to hod it open. A slipjoint should be stiff.
@toytech1679 Slipjoints are a lot of fun and are a piece of history. It is what my grandparents carried and I just love them. That said my carry for today was a Leatherman, a slipjoint, and a pocket fixed blade. That is 1 step over a locking knife. It has no lock to fail. I will alternate the fixed blade with a good locking knife depending on what is planned for the day. The multitool and slipjoint are always present.
I absolutely love my Federalist. Use it daily, it carries well, and it is easy to maintain the wicked sharp edge.

@@LastChanceKnives well, that was condescending as all Hell.
Most of us use our knives harder than tubers just flicking a knife on the desk.

Those Jack Wolf knives are nice looking! 😮

They are quite nice......and for the price they better be! 🤣🤪🤣

The knife is built right and the blade is awesome. It's just that weak detent combined with no kick is a deal breaker for me.
I have a double detent Civivi love it actually which is surprising
@@TBEDC I have seen a little Civivi with detents in S35VN. It did seem like a great knife.

@BaxtersBlades I do like the knife, but this one is just not for me. A liner lock would have made it perfect!

@@TBEDC Thanks for taking a look!
If it had a 1 handed opening method and large kick or finger choil, might be a better knife
Agreed!

I don't see what's the problem with having a lock to prevent the blade from folding in on your finger. I'll pass on all slip joints.
