Hello, real Scottish person here. A spurtle is the only thing to stir your porridge with. Only stir to the right, never to the left, never back and forth and NEVER, EVER, stir anything else with it. Mother will give you a knock on the head even if you think you can do otherwise.
LOL. That's great advice. Nothing worse than a knock on the head from my mother. Thanks for tuning in and for taking the time to leave a comment. It's appreciated.
A Spurtle? Hummm... My wife is Scottish and she doesn't even know what one is! :) Now I can tell her that its a fancy dowel for stirring porridge, better known as oatmeal!! Great video Ken and a neat little project. Thanks buddy.
Hello Kenny I am like you. Keeping my tools clean not like some people who leave them out side to rust. I liked the video but I never heard of a spurtle be for. You take care Michael.
Hi Kenny Go take a look at www.goldenspurtle.com/ and then enter. I am a proud Englishman and being in my 70s I have to say I had never heard of the spurtle before and apparently it was originally for stirring your porridge. Enjoy your videos. Regards Radar Roger
Thanks for the link Roger. Ironically, after watching this video this morning, my wife was telling me about the Golden Spurtle competitions. Great minds think alike I guess. Thanks for tuning in. Now go make a spurtle.
Funny you should say that. I was considering making a show on turning wands the other day as another promoting "children in the workshop" day. I still might, you never know. For the record, my wife still loves this thing and it still lives in our kitchen and gets used on a regular basis. It's awesome. Thanks for tuning in.
I watched this video only because I wanted to know what a friggin' spurtle was. LOL. I looks like a billy club suited for gerbils. Good stuff as always. Thanks.
Great little stocking filler for Christmas and great job on your lathe. Never heard of a Spurtle though but what the heck, I'm from England and I use a spoon for stirring ha ha. Take Care. Barry from England.
HI Kenny in answer to your question 1. I don't have a lathe, 2. I do enough making raised beds and garden planters, 3. I'm English so got no need for one ha ha. 4. After your demo about the Scroll Saw which was really good and inspiring, I'm edging towards that. Barry from England.
That's great Barry. The scroll saw is a lot of fun and you can make spoons on the scroll saw. Sounds like you have given me an idea for an upcoming show.
Hi, How about making a centre hole finder like the one you used at the beginning of this video, There is not much work involved in making one of these but they are always very useful.
Thanks Kenny.
You're very welcome Bill. Thanks for tuning in.
Great project! Thanks.
An easy one, but a fun one. Thanks for the kinds words.

Had no idea what a Spurtle was! If you do this one more time, you can label it as a video on making Harry Potter wands! Regards, Bill

Thanks Barry. Drop the spoon and make a spurtle. What else do you have to do?

That might be an idea for a future show John. Thanks for making the suggestion.
For all those who don't know what a Spurtle is Google the " Golden Spurtle competition" and get educated .
