Did you ever notice that there's no Flood infected Jackals in Halo CE, 2 or 3, despite them very much being present at Flood outbreaks? Does this mean the Jackals are immune to the Flood? Today we're going to answer this question...

There isn't a single Flood infected Jackal in Halo CE, 2 or 3, despite them being present at Flood outbreaks in all 3 games. Is this a coincidence? Or is there more to it than that...? Let's find out :D
HiddenXperia they don't get infected because their mums gay
HiddenXperia I’m watching now
HiddenXperia they are the infector form carriers. Cut content shows a jackal shield on a carrier. Paused the video before commenting so If you covered that, good.
never seen infected grunts
Will Thomas look up grunt combat form on Google images there is a photo of concept from halo 2 anniversary
You know what else the Jackals are good for?
ONI experiments.
or you can just use a prison ship for that
You know what else is good for ONI experiments?
Kiddnapped six year olds.
Agent Kara can you inform me on your comment? did they really experiment on Jackals?
Robert Le
Yeah in Halo 5 on argent Moon they did some fckd stuff to them.
Robert Le yeah hidden exsperia mentioned the argent moon a few times to

Jackal weak body structure=useless=Luke's fortnite
Luke TheNotable Notable
Jackals and Grunts are both stronger than humans. However, the grunts and jackals have low calcium which seems to be a very essential mineral for flood metabolism.
MrReyno Tanks if they have low calcium then they have weak bones which means their bones wouldn’t be able to with stand as much force which means pound for pound they would be much weaker than a human
MACKA 343 No, real world birds have lighter bone structure than humans, yet cassowaries, emus and ostriches have far stronger legs then humans. Jackals are stronger than humans they leap great distances. Additionally a jackal in a scripted event in Halo 4 pounces across a room and quickly overpowers a marines. Another jackal in halo 5 in a scripted event pounces on an elite and knocks over the larger alien. Grunts are also stronger than humans too, they carry heavy weapons with minimal effort.
MrReyno Tanks idk man I’ve never seen an emu squat/carry 300+KG and as for the scripted scenes I mean this is 343 we’re talking about, they have changed the game
And not everything in game is strictly cannon although most of it is. Let’s be real, a jackal would not be stronger than an elite which is about as strong as a spartan and an I’ve seen the scene and I don’t know if it was necessarily stronger or if it just pounced and quickly disabled the marine with its sharp teeth
+MrReyno Tanks
It would seem to me that the argument is equating a small subsect of species of birds in over-ruling the principle at hand. It is true that cassowaries and other large bi-ped birds have VERY strong legs however I don't think that's reason enough to assume that same outlier of birds would hold true for the Jackal in this case. For instance chickens and roosters are bi-ped birds with no real notable strength. However lets just assume in this situation that you're correct here, but that only gives us that Jackals have very strong legs, while not describing the rest of their body's overall musculature. It would seem to me that humans would have stronger upper body strength since they are demonstrated throughout games carrying heavier gear consistently on top of larger weaponry. Therefore I'm more convinced that the flood want stronger upper bodied combat forms to wield a larger variety of weapons and prefer humans.
Those Jackals demonstrated in Halo 4 were a different subspecies of Jackal (similar to the new Brute-sized elites introduced by 343). They emit more reptilian characteristics so if we are going to take them into account that'll be another argument. In the video Hidden Xperia mostly targeted the traditional Bungie Jackal, so I think we should stick with this particular subspecies.
It's hard to determine if grunts are stronger or weaker than humans. First lets point out that the humans in the games are demonstrated to be capable of carrying large weapons with relative ease such as rocket launchers, fuel rod cannons (that you can trade with them), 50 cal. sniper rifles, and other weapons the grunts would be able to supposedly carry with ease as well. Also in Halo: Contact Harvest, it is noted that the first human-covenant contact was aboard a food transport vessel where the grunt described the human as a muscular, naked, and a pale-skinned ape. He was terrified of the human and judging by circumstance would've easily been overpowered and killed if the engineer had not intervened and chucked a rock at his head, killing the human.
Also throughout the novels it's made known grunts are cannon fodder, and treated despicably by jackals. In many cases when left alone, Jackals would even overpower and eat grunts on co-species warships. Altogether this reinforces the overall individual fragility of these species.
Nucle4r Penguins Both grunts and jackals were stated to be stronger than humans in novels. Also for jackal subspecies argument, only the Skirmishers are stated to have superior physical attributes to other members of their species. Jackals are bigger and taller than most humans. Grunts are also a heavier than most humans as well. Grunts are actually physical impeded by their breathing apparatus, as it makes their armour heavier, despite this, they can still carry heavy weapons with minimal effort.
Jackals certainly have strong legs, how else can they leap so easily. Not to mention jackals, regardless of type have also been depicted as well muscled but lightly built, fast and athletic. Not to mention Jackals in the expanded lore have been known rip people apart with their teeth and claws in close combat.
Also you stated elites are as strong (if not stronger in some entrances) than Spartans. However, likely weigh significantly less than a Spartan in armour. Elites have a very low weight for their size and height, meaning that it is possible for pouncing jackals to knock an elite of balance.
“But with the rockets you could dodge those”

Only the strongest will survive!
Is that why elites survived so long wow thay really are the strongest
Lead me to heaven when I die!
Senator Armstrong, gonna make America great again after the patriots incidents. By eliminating the weak
Sam BA I am the shadow on the wall!
I'll be the one to save us all!
Also I dont think its so much that they are just weaker or effective for the flood to infect other hosts, but that their bones are hollow like most avian creatures on earth. The bones of humans are thick, just like elites and brutes. So when its used, it can be turned into a whip. Doing the same thing with jackal bones would cause a disconnect as the whip would still be exceedingly weak! I think I had actually mentioned this in a video a made a few weeks back
If that's the case why not turn the jackals and those like it into unique infection forms? Like that thing in dead space that goes around infecting fresh bodies dead or alive.
Xperia: weak at long range
Jackel: (has beam rifle on legendary mode) OH REALLY!
Love your videos as always mate, but I have a serious problem with your logic here. Kig-Yar are, on average, as tall, if not taller, than Humans. Against a Spartan they appear weak and frail, but against the average Human, they're pretty damn strong, large, and capable.
And though it's common for a Flood limb to become a whip, they aren't restricted to this. The Flood can shape their hosts as needed.
I think your final point is really the only reason we don't see them in the Bungie games: the potential for terrible enemy design. That and time constraints. Though at the time of Halo CE, it was intended that Jackals and Grunts would become Carrier Forms (though that was, obviously, retconned).
Well even spv3’s genius take on the jackels was kinda annoying once they swarmed so yea I think gameplay is the number 1 reason they don’t show up because let’s be real here. The flood can make anything useful with all their creative mutations
Funny how no one saw your comment, pretty much the humans are the frailest indeed.
Also, scary thought, dual wielding Skirmisher flood.
Ripping new ones, since... before you even fucking saw them...
Its because the Flood’s greatest threat, by the point of view of the Graveminds or Protograveminds, is the Spartans. Adapting the main weapon to be anything other than a whip would be a mistake, as if it was an adaptation of the Jackle’s actual claws, it would just slightly scratch the paint. The main goal is to break the shields and batter the spartan till they die.
Spartans are one threat among many, and if Humans are being used as combat forms, so too should Grunts and Jackals. They're both around the size of the average Human.
Think about the other threats the flood as a greater whole has. Marines? Gets infected by a few spores, or if they are ODSTs, by a single infection form. Elites? They have energy shields and plated armor (just like the Spartans) but are not immune to the Flood. Grunts literally are worthless. I'm sorry if you love the Ungoy, but although they are stronger than an average human, they have to breathe a special kind of air, have less durable bodies in general, and are slower than a human. Jackals? You bet these sumbitches would *love* to infect them. However, there are HUGE constraints on the amount of biomass they can add to these hosts, making them impractical to both infection and combat forms because of their weak bone structure. The Proto-gravemind knows this. The gravemind knows this. And Humans are weak, yes, but their bones are strong, their bodies durable, and their only weakness one of the huge strengths of the flood biomass.
Building off this, moreover, Spartans are literally the only thing that can possibly hurt the Flood in the long term. They can't be infected and are hard to kill. The whips work perfectly well on everything, especially since the Flood wants to conserve the bodies.
There technically isn't any infected grunts either but I swear Joeseph Staten said like years ago that grunts and jackals were basically the carriers since they were made out of paper mache or Radditz.
Which is stronger though? Paper mache or Radditz?
Well, there are infected Grunts and Jackals in Halo Wars, if that counts
Wasn't Goku weaker than Raditz when they first came across each other?
kakka Karot Cake was always stronger the show only made it look othewise for more filler episodes.
Lmao Raditz what a weakling
I think SPV3 handled it the best, great source of biomass but can serve as speedy, pouncing carrier forms that are great at getting inside a crowd of defending hosts and making their defenses fall apart once they pop and a good majority of the defense team turn on the spot and wreak havok.
Star Moko I was hoping someone would mention SPV3
"REEEEEEEEEEEEE! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! REEEEEEE!" -Infected Jackal
As much as I like the idea the spv3 team were going for with those infected jackals they really are a fucking horrible menace of REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Because that's all you'll hear when playing the later levels as they swarm you and cockblock your movement. Add that to the 4 infection forms they spawn and you get a new form of cancer.
Infected jackal be like:
Hello, sir Human Demon, I just encountered you, so I shall sing the song of my infected people for the next 2 hours:
GWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUGH!
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
Aquillifer
Realistically the ear piercing shrieks would cause most Marines to panic or be disoriented, to a Spartan it would just be annoying as fuck but not completely terrifying...
Unless you're Chief during his first encounter with the Flood in the books who pretty much shit himself.
Relatively speaking, humans are pretty damn weak too. Plus they're the shortest of all the species sans Grunts and Drones (Grunts are heavy though).
By this logic human flood forms should be relatively rare too. Yet they're one of the most common combat forms.
But I get that you're trying to find a lore explanation for something that was not done with lore in mind, so it's fair.
To be fair, Humans have a fairly versatile design, and the Flood infection buffs them up enough to deal with threats. Once the flood starts messing with the design Humans could have endless possibilities. Same could be said about Elites and Brutes, but might as well use all the available resources, right?
31Tancos Human combat forms tend to be fast. Humans have evolved to run fast for a long way, which would be useful for the Flood. Jackals never have been seen to run fast, although it seems as if they could. Human combat forms would also be effective because they can effectively use human weapons, whereas Elites can use Jackal weapons just as effectively.
Humans are weak compared to bigger aliens, but in actuality a human could probably kill a Jackal bare handed. As well as how he mentions Jackals bones are thin compared with humans that have much more dense bones that could be used better during transformation.
Jackals can actually sprint very fast on a short distance during gameplay, but I guess in terms of endurance, maybe they're not that great. As for grunts, it's hinted at that they're stronger then a normal human in lore, but they're probably much less agile and flexible.
Jackals have bird bones. Grunts meanwhile resemble crustaceans if I'm not mistaken. So I don't think there's much calcium there, either.
Interestingly enough shielded carrier floods that where scrapped from Halo2 so Jackels being used in carrier forms might have more basis than we originally thought
Even at the Coordinated stage, the Flood usually don't make Jackal combat forms. What is more common is that the Jackals are infected, but they are converted directly into biomass. Notice how there are no Jackal corpses on High Charity in Halo 3 because the Flood have turned them all into the rotten flesh lining every visible surface.
Could've mentioned those unused Halo 2 carrier forms that had the Jackal shield on it, I guess that's what Bungie was going for as far as this topic is concerned.
People want halo to change, but not change what makes halo, halo?
A good example of evolving halo would be to actually have flood jackals
Shit like this is how to improve halo. Not spartan abilities
MaximumRageQuit Another moronic "fan".
I was so happy when they added jetpacks and Sprint.
Every time I saw an elite with one I had to ask, "Why does a super soldier in super armor, fighting in SPACE, not have a jetpack??"
Still used sprint more in Reach though.
The game should evolve.
Hope they add magnetic cling in the next one, to change the combat mechanics even more.
They already have magnetic lock in the boots, so it wouldn't be a surprise to find out you got shot in the head because you forgot to check above the doorway when you walked in.
Come to think of it, a ground slam from there would be pretty sick too. We need more possibilities damn it!!
this isnt call of duty keep that shit away
Nicholas Mercer
Halo did it before CoD.
CoD, was mimicking Elysium and then competing against/ripping off Titan Fall... While memeing.
CoD doesnt know who it is, but Halo does. It can stand to have more, if done correctly(Keeping other playstyles in mind). Halo 5 was a move in the right direction, mechanics wise.
I love Spartan Abilities. Especially clamber. I love just running around parkour
HiddenXperia uploaded 22 minutes ago? What a day, what a lovely day!
In Spv3 (Halo CE mod) They're light carrier forms, they release far fewer infection forms, and they don't have a damaging explosion, but they run on all 4 and can leap decent distances
In that mod they're worth infecting since they can either use their speed and agility to get to wherever they're needed as biomass, or they can simply get around faster than a carrier form or infection form ever can for the purposes of spreading.
Yes i can not believe that Hiddenxperia did not comment on SPV3.
FIRESTORM, Probably because it's a mod and therefore pertains very little to the fundamental canon of the official Bungie/343 games. The team behind SPV3 implemented Jackal flood forms to simply fill the void that Bungie left, which was quite likely due to time/resource constraints.
Just because it was in a mod it doesn't make it canon. Besides, there is literally footage in this video showing off Jackal combat forms in Halo Wars. So why there is any confusion as to why they're seemingly not possible of being infected is beyond me.
_Only the strongest will survive~_
Time for a hidden Xperia marathon!
Awesome video HiddenXperia!
Thanks to your lore videos I understood Halo 5´s story.
So the answer for the title of this video is no they’re not immune to flood infection
Yep but they are useless
Imagine the mission Cortana on Legendary with Halo 2 infected Jackal snipers
How big of an insult is it when even the flood doesn’t want to use you as a combat form or biomass 😂
I would love to see a Faze montage of infected Jackal snipers. That would be one of the funniest videos to exist.
In SPV3, the Halo CE campaign mod, they were converted into faster carrier forms that yelled and screamed a lot and were, generally, very annoying.
xWBx W4R yea...
I always assumed Jackals and Grunts got infected and turned into those carrier forms
Nothing as relaxing as listening to HiddenXperia's voice talk about space zambols
"Pretty damn weak at long range"
SNIPER JACKAL INTENSIFIES
What about skirmishers from Reach? I can imagine them being a weaker but much faster combat form, instead of just being used for biomass. It would be pretty interesting, especially in a dark, spooky map, kinda like High Charity form H2.
Didn't they go extinct after Reach? So before the release of Flood?
Mobilized Robin6 nah they didnt go extinct but the covenant stopped using them because almost all of their population was decimated in the fall of reach
Blow me away!
Ohhh, you had to remind me of those damn rocket flood from Halo CE. I'd always be a bit hesitant about flying the banshee down into the cave on the level Two Betrayals or when entering the bigger spaces on The Library. It always seemed like it was always too late by the time you saw the rocket flying and your gut would tighten up real quick as you tried to jump out of the way.
This is the definition of "A gust of wind would snap you in half"
What about grunts?
Used as Biomass as well. They don't make good combat forms. Originally, I believe Bungie wanted make grunts carrier forms when infected. Spv3 did this though.
The blue cube hmm maybe
The blue cube R.I.P Dibdap
i always assumed the carriers were grunts they look the part
What about the flood attack on the grunties?

That intro can be the military life of an elite that then led up to his execution by two energy swords to the head or neck
Dude I love your channel and absolutely love your dedication to the games, books, etc. The overall lore. So many people could care less about the deeper story to Halo but to me it's a masterpiece. In fact, I almost wish it was real because it feels so natural and believable. Keep it up man!
Hey, Xperia, just thought I’d let you know that “Deadlier” is the grammatically proper way, not “More deadly.” I’ve seen you making the mistake a bit in these last few vids and I thought I should correct you!
Also, great vid as always! :D
Ain't they used for carrier forms along with grunts?
Shadow King no the flood make use of every species in halo for something. human and elite are combat, grunts are carriers, hunters are destroyers, and so on but the flood do not see jackals as useful so the flood just kill them and use them as biomass.
Shadow King
In some cases
Farlon Spookblade halo 3 when yoy team up with the flood there are flooded hunters helping you.
Cameron Mackin I am sorry to disappoint you, but those are pure forms, though I definitely see why you thought they were hunters. I originally thought that myself.
I like how you walked up to the jackel saying it's small slouched they come up to chief's chin meaning they're over 6 foot tall
This series is literally just
"Can [Insert Species] be infected by the flood"
Yes. the answer is ALWAYS YES
Yea a new halo video
Or maybe Bungie just didn't have the time and resources to design, animate and implement a different Flood form from an infected Jackal? Seems more logical. Cool story, tho.
It's a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why we never saw infected Jackal forms.
ocourse thats the reason humans are just as weak as jackals
VictusPrime At one point they did have a varient of the Carrier Forms with the Jackel's shield, but it was never put in game :/
You know what else seems more logical you shutting the fuck up
HiddenXperia your flood and halo videos in general. Are just supreme content. I should have to pay to watch this. Also if the flood ever infected you. I think they would have to sit down in a dark room and think deep thoughts because they would know more about themselves then anything else. They would have a philosophical awakening and be like "you know I don't want to infect people anymore"
Healthy jackel : what ever 3 shots with br, infected jackel: pphhhhhh one shot with pistol
That intro is never going to get old
This guy has the best intro I have ever seen
*intro plays* hidden:are jackals immune to the flood? no... *video ends*
yay more flood vids maybe you could talk about how you rarely see any freezing flood grunts like you don't even see them in Halo wars
I may have known that the jackals could be infected but I still watched this video because I love what you do keep it up!
In halo 2 there was a model for flood jackals - has a a shield in front of it and everything but DEVS left it out just before game release but can be found with consul commands
The SPV3 mod has them. The Jackels are made into a disturbing frog-thing.
Maybe flood have standards like "oh you've infected a jackel? Puh I infected an elite you peasant"
I think from a gameplay design standpoint, you make a good point about the jackal snipers. It differentiates the gameplay between the flood (who usually rush/swarm you) and the covenant, who will fight you like an actual military (ie, snipers and air craft, etc)
Literally almost everything: is alive
The flood: Hippity hoppity you were now my property
I’m loving that new intro
Fun fact: In Halo 2 combat forms can be found holding beam rifles but never actually use them. Great video by the way, I love the flood of video you make ;)
Im super hyped when u upload a video because they are like the only good quality halo vids out there. Keep up the work 👍
In halo 4 in a mission a jackel ran and pounced right on a space marine then biting him, a good way to spread.
A strength in numbers kind of jackal flood form would be pretty cool. Imagining a horde of practically fossilized jackals skittering about the walls of a forerunner installation makes me shiver in a good way. They wouldn't have any weapons, or protection but, they'd be incredibly fast, and would fit a flamethrower into the situation very well.
Jackle turned into combat form attempts to use whip, it breaks off when he swings it up, grave mind to chief: i swear this never happens....
Wish we actually got to see jackal flood with an infected shield
Hiddenxperia be like
Videos about the vast universe of halo and it’s many stories < flood
As flood, they’d be great hunting/stalking forms. I’m sure their enhanced senses would carry over at least a little bit. Flood don’t NEED weapons to be effective. Their arms are surely enough
im pretty sure the only multicell organism without a nervous system is a sponge
Those jackal forms are a pain in the ass
I like how you used the halo 2 art for the elite intro
The Flood would've use the Jackals for Carrier Forms
Maybe because a flood combat form jackal will be the most terrifying thing in the game
2:39 my boy is getting roasted about his outfit and he’s just standing there taking it. LOL poor guy.
Jackals kept sniping the flood to the point where the flood stopped trying to infect them.
I like what the SPV3 mod did with them, they made them crawling carrier forms, but while also retaining their actual Jackal bodies
Love the picture to the video!!!
3:37 Tell that to Halo 2 Sniper Jackals on legendary.
The new intro is awesome
That intro was dope asf!
I want to see a Key mind show up. Humans VS Banished VS Cortana VS Flood. All out chaos.
Infected Jackels can be use as *spotters* in Halo 6 (if there's gonna be flood) since they have good eye sight and fast reaction AND they can use there annoying screeches as the alarm.
jackals would rather disentegrate themselves then have their body fight for free
2:50 1.The sheid is strapped it could be placed on the whip 2:54 2.the flood seem to keep the hand as seen after wards a bit 3.leaving the other hand without the whip free for a gun
One explanation I've seen before which you didn't cover (or if you did I missed it) -- Infected jackals are rare in the Halo universe for two reasons: 1- They are less disciplined than pretty much everything besides grunts, they run away. 2- They are very quick and agile, they run away successfully.
My usual reasoning for this kind of thing is that they either didn't have time for it, or they did have a lore reason.
I know its non-canon, but SPV3 gave us a "jackal carrier" its really interesting as its basically a jackal that jumps around and attacks with claws, and when shot it explodes into 3 or 4 infection forms.
I didn't know the flood was so picky. I thought there were thousands of spores to infect
Because the flood are disturbingly so intelligent, the only times Jakal's are seen is only when the flood seem to want to utilize their sniper like the clips you showed but only out of the map.
Thanks for doing the topic I requested
Last thing we need are Flood Jackal Snipers.
You going in on the jackals man
I can see one possible use for jackals that you did touch on, those flood carriers, but in this case, smaller but faster ones that carry flood spores in their thin bones that leak out when dead
That or scout forms, stealthier and thin forms that are designed to carry information to the Grace mind through recon, they use a thin whip arm as a grappling hook and carry things like carbines and other ranged weapons. If they die they decompose rapidly and release flood spores through their bones.
Of course both of these would only be present in successful flood hives but they seem like near ideas
I love the new intro hiddenexpiera
I always thought as a kid that grunts turned into carriers because of the similar legs
New intro looks sick
Like your brand new Intro!
One drink for the one iconic
On a side note, SPV3 version of jackal combat forms also behave as very weak carrier and also has a deadly melee. Not cannon as in official Halo games, therefore in the sidenote.
Well the flood is very smart because they're basically mutated remains of the precursors
Ain't no flood gonna hi-jack these jackals 😎
