  • The UniFi Dream Machine Pro (UDM-Pro) is an excellent home user router/firewall/switch/surveillance system device. The UDM-Pro runs the UniFi OS and includes UniFi Network, UniFi Protect, UniFi Access, and UniFi Talk bundled in as applications.
In this series, we will dig deep into how to set up the UDM-Pro and related applications mostly focusing on Network and Protect.
In Part 04 we go over how to set up a guest network within UniFi Network.

I agree. I was able to get the guest network set up, but the interface is sufficiently different that it caused me a little discomfort. I was able to refer to another UA-camr's video which is more current to get the details covered that I was unsure of. I really trust Crosstalk Solutions' how-to's, though for something as critical as my network. My next step is to set up the IoT network, and I'm afraid the difference in the updated interface might make it impossible to follow the CS tutorial.

Thanks Chris for all your help! I also agree that updated install video's would be nice given the updated OS interface ... got mine end of July 2022 and look very different that yours. Also, do you have any video's that address this crazy wifi printer connection problems? I have an HP LaserJet, it worked fine when I had it setup with UDM Pro>Pro 24 PoE switch>UniFi6 Pro AP and wireless connected HP. We had a flood and I lost the switch and UDM. I replaced the equipment with a UDM Pro SE>a new Pro24 PoE switch>same UniFi Pro AP wireless connection to HP but can not get printing function to recognize the printer. If I send a print job to the queue, it sits until I cycle printer off/on. The job then prints but will not print another job unless I cycle printer power again. Any help would be great ... however, I'm a novice at this so I;ll need details! ;)

I am a total noob user and have this same question...I am using Guest Hotspot to allow friends and family to connect to the internet. I am assuming that the Guest Hotspot is limited in access to the LAN. When I used it, I was unable to connect directly to the UDM Pro for instance... Are you using the Guest Hotspot and have you found it to be secure for the rest of your network?

    • @brandonthomas6862
      @brandonthomas6862 2 роки тому +1

@@stephencampbell7405 Wifi and network are not the same thing. You could have a guest Wifi and the routing aspect could still be your main LAN which you don't really want. To avoid this you'd setup your guest WIFI to point to your guest LAN and then things would be properly isolated.

Chris, just a few things.. Love the videos, Unifi really should sponsor you to do this for every UI update. That being said the UI is different in UnifiOS 1.12.22 / Network 7.1.66. They now have a Guest Network and Guest Hotspot Option under Networks/WiFi. This setting device appears to create network isolation in network, i was not able to ping my other network gateways nor was i able to access the gateway from port 80/442, I did not test SSH but i am not running SSH on my UDM Pro

Chris, I'm setting up my Guest Network at my house right now. I know things are a little different than in this video, but it's straight forward enough. I have it working, but have one question. One the UDMPro, when I hover of the little information bubble about Network Isolation, is says, "Your Guest Hotspot Profile will automatically be applied to this Guest Network. Connected clients will be isolated from all other internal clients. These restrictions can be modified in your Guest Hotspot Profile." So my question is, what's the Guest Host Profile and where do I configure it in the Unifi Portal? Is this something to do with the Hotspot Manager? Mainly just a curiosity question. Not sure I want to modify anything.

I'm stuck at the device isolation point. The latest firmware doesn't match up at all and I can't figure out how to reconcile it.

Can the guest network ping each other within the guest network with device isolation?

This is great but you need to update your video series. I am on 1.12.30 and almost nothing is the same is settings. Device isolation is now in Wifi and not Network. Very confusing.

Crosstalk. You got any videos on Pi Hole DNS set up for the UDMP? I've played around for a couple days and seem to finally have the pi hole seeing my guest network on vlan 10. However, Now i've noticed the websites take forever to load. Yet that are zippy and fast on the regular lan not going through the VLAN. Didn't know if this was a UDMP problem others have seen or VLAN mapping in the Pi Hole itself struggling.

You port the network to allow DNS port 53 on pi. And set up DNS to only 1 being the pi? Just redid mind works good. Selected invalid as well for firewall rule

Device isolation is apparently no longer present.

Hello. How do I block my clients on the guest network from creating hotspots on their connected devices thereby sharing the network.

Anyone done this with a 'normal router'?
I can do all the above and the guest network exists but no access to anything.
I take it that with the UDM Pro the VLAN is automatically setup on the router and a static route set from the new VLAN IP range to the Gateway IP.
We have a Business Gateway AR129. I can create the VLAN easy enough but am unsure how how to route its gateway IP to the routers WAN.

Euh Chris, at the end you say firewall is not available in the new interface, however... you can access the firewall through the new interface. It's under Settings>Security>Internet Threat Management>(scroll down) Voila Firewall. That being said, the old interface is way better and more complete on a lot of matters. Waiting for UI to get around to porting everything over befoire switching completely to new interface

I bought a UDM Pro about a month after you put out this video and already the GUI is slightly different, but I was able to follow all of this 100% yet my guest network is not showing up on the new .10 IP although the limiting is working fine. Very confused.

Instead of deleting this and acting like it never happened, maybe this will help someone else. I went back into the wireless settings and to my guest wireless network and never clicked on the drop down to switch it to the appropriate VLAN.

If you eliminate the reserved ip addresses in the subnet, you lose the ability to create a honey pot for that network.
