nostalgia made ME cry, too! Guitar solo by Craig Chaquiro, amazing guitarist for Jefferson Starship, got to join a major rock band and tour the world, playing huge festivals while still only a teenager, due to his phenomenal talent!
Love how it sounds like a 1980s song, even though the movie was actually produced in the early 90s (production wrapped up in 1992, IIRC, but it didn't get released until 1995.)
I know right? Sounds totally like an 80s Glam Metal song, even thought the movie was made in the 90s. They probably could've used a Grunge sound, but for Gumby I don't think it would've made much sense.
Its odd because Gumby was around when I was a little kid, I remember getting a little green rubber Gumby and orange Pokey for Christmas and I was around 8, so for at least 55 years or so, he's been bringing cheer to children! If you watch the 1980's classic Spinal Tap comic parody of a rock band, lead guitarist Nigel Tufnal has the same rubber Gumby in his shirt pocket while on stage. "If you've got a heart, then Gumby's a part of you..." judging by the music, this song was done in the 1980's..
Production was started in 1988 and completed in 1992. Despite this, Premavision was unable to find a distributor for this movie until 1995, when they found a small company named Arrow Releasing (not to be confused with Arrow Films). Despite the on-screen title Gumby 1, there never was a Gumby 2.
Oh, Gumby, oh The day that I met you I lost a piece of my heart Now I got you here Nothing's gonna keep us apart I don't have to worry I don't have to hurry now You're all that I need I know we can make it somehow We may gonna break through Heading for a fall Gumby, how can I make you See me at all? Take me away, oh Gumby You do something to my chemistry Take me away, oh Gumby You are a total mystery You're green, you're clay You're a cosmic display How can I go on this way? Oh, Gumby, oh Take me away Trouble to the left, danger to the right I feel it all around As long as you are near There's no need to fear And I won't back down I know you're the answer To all of my dreams Now that we're together, birds of a feather We're a perfect team Take me away, oh Gumby You do something to my chemistry Take me away, oh Gumby You are a total mystery You're green, you're clay You're a cosmic display How can I go on this way? Oh, Gumby, oh Take me away Oh, Gumby, oh Take me away Oh, Gumby, oh Take me away
I was also obsessed with it, and wanted to watch it over and over but it also creeped me out when I was younger, there was something painful or scary about it and I always wanted to cry for Gumby for some inexplicable reason. The visuals and sounds were sometimes like sad or harsh? like the dog tears sounding like coins in a cash register symbolizing tears/sadness/pain is making energy for another group of beings and that being a very sad subliminal concept.
Bruh!!!!!!!! I use to replay this all the time....wore out the mf vhs tape!!!!! That beat go so hard!!!!! Take me away back to that place because eventhough we weren't rich, them family movie nights were just............
First i like Gumby Second i like the song "Take me away" Third i remember my childhood Fourth if only i can turn back time Thank you Gumby for the memories when i was a kid watching you on t.v.
this would be a perfect love song if you replaced any mention of gumby or clay with something else, like "oh gumby" to "oh baby" and "you're great, you're clay" to "my heart, you slay"
I would love to show my boyfriend this song, but because of the fact it's about gumby, it wouldn't make sense to show him lol. Someone should definitely remix this at some point! Or even add this version to spotify.
I love how in the Pingu series, Pingu and Pingi’s romantic relationship is developed with slowly forming chemistry in Pingu’s Admirer instead of being forced like Gumby and Clara’s romantic relationship in Gumby: The Movie, based on Gumby, (While Gumby and Pokey’s brotherly relationship is executed much better.) Thomas while not romantically involved in Emily does soon get a love interest in Thomas: The Great Race based on Thomas and Friends. Related to Gumby and Pokey’s and Pingu and Robby’s brotherly kind of relationship, Pingu at the Wedding Party, based on Pingu, as well as The Little Bear Movie based on Little Bear and Franklin: Turtle Lake Treasure based on Franklin also have good examples of three protagonists who already have love interests (Pingi for Pingu, Emily for Little Bear and Otter for Franklin.) but form sibling or cousin relationships with their cousins and friends, including Franklin forming a good relationship with his godcousin and his Aunt Sarah’s goddaughter Lucy in Turtle Lake Treasure and Pingu forming a good relationship with his own cousin Pingki and Little Bear and Cub formed a brotherly relationship of some kind.
Gumby and Terra are adorable together but honestly I think she was only added as a celebrity guest in Gumby’s world, you know how that is, ESPECIALLY in movies today, notice how she’s technically not officially either as she appeared in nothing else Gumby related since. XD I ship them, but I honestly ship Gumby more with Goo as she is an original character and everything, they are cute together honestly. 😊
There is no romance! They barely know each other, but that doesn't mean they can't dance together! It's not like they make out or anything, she just ends up in his video. :)
Gumby and Tara are such a cute couple! I wonder if I can make a valentine card with Gumby and Tara together!? It'll be just like Bugs and Lola Bunny! And I could picture something even cuter, that Tara would be kissing Gumby and he would go crazy over her and there would be hearts in his eyes! I can make a painting about that and I know someone's going to love it! How about you guys!?❤
I'm here because Rifftrax riffed it fairly recently. I didn't grow up with it; I don't have any nostalgic attachment to it. But MAN does the music rock. Even with Mike, Kevin, and Bill making jokes, pointing out how trippy any thing was or how faulty the logic could be, I still thought to myself "Man, a song in a Gumby movie has NO RIGHT going THIS hard." This is genuinely impressive and beautiful. Go, Gumby Movie!
Patrick Creedon Didn't mean to come across like that, just wanted to preempt the slue of "YOU MADE A MISTAKE GIVE ME ATTENTION" comments that infest the internet.
Holy shit so I didn't hallucinate this whole thing when I was like 5.
SaxMtC 😂😂 right? I’m here for proof!!
I thought the same thing omg
Love how even though the movie was completed in 1992 (but not released until 1995), "Take Me Away" sounds a lot like a 1980s song!
Thanks art clokey for creating this character you truly are a Walt Disney congratulations 👏
@@FriedFrogLegsAnimations but unfortunately this was not his best film, though stilll visually charming despite inferior to Aardman
Still a great piece of work imo
I agree, and I can't get over it, as a result!
Art Clokey was the guy who pioneered animation using clay. Rest In Piece
10/12/1921-1/8/2010
The genius of Art Clokey, God rest his Soul!
And Dallas McKennon, voice of Gumby
I was obsessed with this movie and this song was the best part of the movie 😭 nostalgia hitting hard. 💓💓💓 the guitar solo tho 😍🎸🎼🎶
nostalgia made ME cry, too! Guitar solo by Craig Chaquiro, amazing guitarist for Jefferson Starship, got to join a major rock band and tour the world, playing huge festivals while still only a teenager, due to his phenomenal talent!
Me too man.
I feel the same way!!!!
They probably could've used a Grunge sound, but for Gumby I don't think it would've made much sense.
wileyk209zback It sounds like it came out in '88.
I didn't know they made that movie in '92.
@@drummingdanny84that’s actually when production started so makes sense lol
Wow the detail on the guitar playing.
Man those Guitar rifts, this is why I come back and listen to this song. The beginning and ending is just awesome!
Those guitar riffs are courtesy of Craig Chiquico, former Jefferson Starship guitarist.
Same love it just wish they would put the soundtrack on itunes
Same here. Love it!
the guitar strumming in this video is awesome, plus the ending guitar solo was perfect
Thank you Gumby, You took me away to Old memories
In Memory of Art Clokey (October 12 1921-January 8 2011)😞 He should have been a 100 years old
So many great memories
I can't imagine how long this must have taken them to animate, and it must have been a pain in the ass to animate this.
This shit is fire I remember this from when I was like 9 I would genuinely blast this on Spotify if it was on it
Gumby ain't wearing no pants.
I learned from the best.
Neither is Tara lol
My 5yr old daughter is obsessed with Gumby and watches this movie on repeat 😅
I did the same thing! Especially this scene!
I absolutely adore this song! Tara was really expressing her feelings, and her lyrics are very deep.
I imagine someone singing like that to me.
I adore love like that, a lot
Is this song all in her head? Like she’s not in the Clayboys. I think she’s hallucinating all this while Gumby is shredding for lucky records
Man I watched this movie so many times as a kid. Good stuff ;D
this song rules classic 90's!
Sounds more like it's from the 80s :P
erain martinez too bad it's not on Itunes
@@rickymoranjr9609 Yeah, I'd definitely buy the MP3!
@@ZakWolf mm-hmm
This song is so damn good. I'm glad It popped in my head randomly. I remember watching this as a kid so many times.
Same!!!
I had the Gumby theme in my head today and it led me to destroying the replay button on this forgotten banger.
Wow I haven’t seen this in 20 or more years. What a memory
Seriously, such a hip song for a kid's cartoon. 💚
Ra - I know things, I see things, I grow things you should listen to the song "This way n that" at the end credits of this movie
It helps that the guitarist of this song, Craig Chaquito, was a member of Jefferson Starship.
@@victorhernandez8723 i didn't know that
I still sing this song to myself all the time. It’s burned into my psych.
Same with me and my brother
Dude. Same.
its the best honestly
Holy crap same though.
I love this song and I love the gumby movie I bought it on blu-ray !!
어렸을때 보던 검비스토리 음악만 들어도 옛날 추억이 돋네
진짜 비디오로 많이 보고 그랬는데 추억의 만화영화 ^^
This is such a delightfully silly acid trip. Loved Gumby as a kid. I wish there would be something new done with this property.
To be 39 now I remember this awesome show as a 8 year old
absolute banger 80s style song
I watched this so many times as a young kid. This was my life. I can’t ever forget it. This movie is me. There’s a special place in my memory for this
I’ve loved Gumby since I was a kid. And I still love him today. 😍😍
Awesome song, awesome animation, and an awesome movie! You were the man Art Clokey! 💚
Loved this movie as a kid. No idea how many times I watched it. Wish I knew where I can get this song.

this goes hard asl
I Mandela effected myself into thinking this was "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" for the longest time
I've never seen this movie before or heard this song before, but it still feels nostalgic to me for some reason, and I'm all for it
The entire movie is on UA-cam
This song has been stuck in my head for nearly 30 years. I am so glad I found this video!
AHHH The Nostalgia
'You do something to my chemistry' - I got excited in this lyrics.
What else can be said?
Kids movie or not this is a banger of a music video.
My favorite part is where Tara's clones are moving around with their tribal masks on.
Same applied to Gumby.
and where did the tribal masks take place?
The soundtrack is absolutely great
Still amazing
Such a banger

Oh, Gumby, oh
The day that I met you
I lost a piece of my heart
Now I got you here
Nothing's gonna keep us apart
I don't have to worry
I don't have to hurry now
You're all that I need
I know we can make it somehow
We may gonna break through
Heading for a fall
Gumby, how can I make you
See me at all?
Take me away, oh Gumby
You do something to my chemistry
Take me away, oh Gumby
You are a total mystery
You're green, you're clay
You're a cosmic display
How can I go on this way?
Oh, Gumby, oh
Take me away
Trouble to the left, danger to the right
I feel it all around
As long as you are near
There's no need to fear
And I won't back down
I know you're the answer
To all of my dreams
Now that we're together, birds of a feather
We're a perfect team
Take me away, oh Gumby
You do something to my chemistry
Take me away, oh Gumby
You are a total mystery
You're green, you're clay
You're a cosmic display
How can I go on this way?
Oh, Gumby, oh
Take me away
Oh, Gumby, oh
Take me away
Oh, Gumby, oh
Take me away
Such a great movie and song 🎵

This had a lot of heart warming love, I just wish I could experience it for myself for I don’t have a girl
THIS IS MY FUCKIN FAVORITE GUMBY SCENE SO GLAD TO FUCKIN FOUND IT! HOLY FUCK!!!
They know all the guitar hero poses!
I LIKE THIS SONG IT WILL BRING BACK MY MIDDLE SCHOOL MEMORIES
This film really didn't have to go hard with this Banger for a family film.
Such an amazing movie.
I watched this when I was like 5 or 6, and the dervish dances book didn't cross my mind when I was 15 or 16 and learning about whirling dervishes

Classic jam...
This reminds me of hit me with your best shot.
The first song I cried to, it was 1997 and I was an artist and only 8 yo.
You're green, you're clay, you're a public display. How can I go on this way?
It's cosmic, not public.

So freakin trippy.
They should have used the lyrics from this for the movie's tagline:
He's green. He's clay. He's a cosmic display.
Gumby my favorite it brought me great memories from my childhood

Gumby and Tara own this song; I own nothing
The rhino that was chasing Pokey back in the African Dances book could mean that he found at least one idea for Gumby's concert.
I watched this movie so many times as a kid I ruined the VHS tape lol
I second that motion! ❤
There is no romance! They barely know each other, but that doesn't mean they can't dance together! It's not like they make out or anything, she just ends up in his video. :)

I don't know if anything about this movie was bad or good...this song was catchy as hell
Lots of Def Leppard vibes from this song
THAT'S GIRL is a good singing in the whole world! Right?

Sounds a bit like Pat Benetar, but it isn't, I checked.

You do know it's Starship guitarist Craig Chaquico doing those licks, right?
If you change up some of the lyrics this stands up very well as a song
What a fun show. I never saw this til today. thanks Craig C for sharing. This is what kids now days should be watching instead of violent video games
I actually rented this a lot from the movie store as a kid
