@@sylvaret I am glad it's coming. I'll listen to the remix of Dynamite and see how good it is. Sadly I hoped the game would go full 3d not but we're still stick with sprites
Will never forget that battle on the boat as you're going over to that other island to attack the enemy. You get ambushed by this flying thing and it does so much damage, that it stuns you and near one-shots most of your group and you can't hurt the stupid thing, and this theme is playing. So you think "okay it's an unwinnable battle, I'll just die...WHAT!? Whatdya mean, 'Game Over'!?" .... here, you had to survive 60 (IIRC?) seconds then the battle ends in a draw. Trying to survive 60 seconds with this playing against something that kills Claude in 2 hits flat is... quite tense. This "trick" is also repeated at the top of the tower right before you get taken to Nede, same thing. Die and it's game over but you obviously can't win.
Oh you're talking about the cliffside battle. You have to survive Shin for 60 seconds. The boat scene is where you have to die in order for him to make everyone abandon ship and continue the story.
@@Minchken Pretty sure you have to survive on the boat, too. But memory is fuzzy so I could be mistaken? Either way, that "survive 60 seconds" battle is one of the cooler moments in RPGs.
@@Dhalin Yeah, that one took place outside a fortress on a moutain side. There's even another survive for 60 seconds with berle near the end of the first disk. That game was so amazing.
@@Minchken You mean, at the top of the tower? I remember something about that... you survive for 60 seconds and that's just ONE of the "Wise Men" I think that's what they were called... and right after you watch the _entire planet_ you were just standing on just.... vaporize and you wake up in some strange futuristic city on another "planet" thinking "how tf are we supposed to beat those guys anyway?" and when you finally get the weapons to do that.... maxing out Claude's Mirror Slice and just pinning one of them against the wall and going to town on him/her for 30 ish seconds until they die is cathartic.
@@Dhalin Absolutely. Especially with Ashton's Sword Dance added to the fight against Vesper And Decus. Those two were brutal and kicked my ass many times before I learned how to properly level up my attribute talent skills that I had no idea about for quite a while till I knew the game from top and Bottom. Unlimited Indalecio was too much for me even after maxing out my main fighters from finishing the cave of trials at lvl 255. The experience was incredible though.
Theme really hit me the most in the post end game dungeon . Mirror slice my way to victory with this in the background woohoo! Edit: Also Gremlin Lair was probably my most favorite attack lmao just cool af.
I still remember the second giant robot with "Smash slash". Got several deaths from that guy as my characters were fairly low levelled at that time. haha, good times. >
Mages are OP early in this game then tail off towards the end simply because their spells aren't multi-hitting and damage caps at 9,999-- except for Rena who is always useful.
It's the same in Second Story R, even with the new break damage limit skill. There's hardly any reason to have spellcasters in your party besides Rena, especially in postgame when Claude and the other melee fighters can deal like 10x the damage of something like Southern Cross/Demon's Gate in the time it takes for the spell animation to play out lmao. Also Noel still sucks, but he actually works pretty well for Assault Actions because backup healing is always a good thing.

Idk about remaking it with tri-ace current. They have become a shell of their former selves they are only interested in easy profits now hence why we got a half assed so5 (not bad but far below the bar they set before) and then a mobile port to milk. I fear the future of star ocean may be doomed.
@@IronwillTR Some change is good, but others, not. Like, the Secret of Mana remaster. They did quite good with a lot of themes, but utterly butchered a few (Dark Lich). Or the FF Pixel Remasters. I haven't seen a single theme in those that I didn't like what they did with.
@@IronwillTR Is it just me or did they kinda ruin it? They did exactly what I thought they'd end up doing, they changed the original chiptune riff to a metal guitar, increased its volume respective to the rest of the instruments in the song, and then added a new guitar solo over what shoulda been the bridge that completely destroyed that section. Just... why. I don't get why composers keep doing this kind of thing, the song was fine as-is, it only needed a little touchup. I didn't even recognize this theme at first, the first time I got into a battle with a boss, and I was like "wait... no... what did they do to this song!?" which is a shame, because MOST of the music in the game was pretty darn faithful, like 90% of more and then you get to... Dynamite and it's like "wtf were you thinking?"
You wouldn't last minutes with Bloody Armor as Chisato has no selfheal. I am not sure that Weird Slayer can oneshot her either. Maybe You have used some instakill lotions and with Chisato's multiple hits Killer Moves You killed her fast?
