ruins the sense of scale imo. They worked incredibly hard making towns that were straight up 30 to 40 steps away seem like a full days journey, i love that about ps1 era games. Designing around limitations always renders a superior product. @@Pissant950
I remember playing this game on my PS1 with my sister as kids, but the CD was scratched so the cut scenes, like when that town gets flooded, took like 1 frame per minute. We never finished the game but we would always make new games and this song would play in the forest where you first meet Rena. That beginning town felt like home while listening to this
I love how this theme works so well for both the forests on Expel and a certain forested area in Nede. Two completely different contexts (the former suggesting peace and tranquility, the latter suggesting that even after countless millions of years, nature will survive and reclaim what we leave behind). It's just so satisfying. I miss this kinda thing about RPGs and games of this era. They had to find a way to work within limitations and do things like reuse tracks for different areas, and I feel it oftentimes really enhanced the story and mood much moreso than things like fully voiced cutscenes or cinematic direction.
I'd spent so many hours playing this game. I really lived in this game while I was playing this. Sure I was in high school while I was playing it. But I was just so drawn into it. I bought a copy again about a year ago even though I don't have a playstation to play it on right now.
Yeah I deeply enjoyed the psp version as well... Honestly I was hoping for an actual remake of it, which if I had the $ for it I would pay square enix for one... I’m sure I’d put 1k hours on it as well. Yes I put 1k hours into so2. 500+ on ps1 and 500+ on psp. That’s why I love it so much. The playability in new game. Galaxy and universe, as well as different characters which change the story. Amazing, just amazing.
Glad to see there are others who appreciate this game as much as I do. No matter what comes out this will remain my favorite game and a piece of time that was an important part of my childhood
The OST of this game, along with Valkyrie Profile, will always remain my favourite of his stuff. Though I also like Tales of Xillia's tracks too. I'll never forget the moment I first started playing this game as a child way back, and heard this beautiful music, followed by the battle theme. I only rented the game to begin with, but between the OST, gameplay and crafting system, I completely fell in love with it. In fact I think when I first got a home cinema setup with Dolby Pro Logic, this game was the first one I tested!
Somewhere beyond the Andromeda Galaxy, 2.5 million light years from earth there exists those that hope and dream that somewhere within the Milky way (our Galaxy) life exists.....and one day this dream will become a reality.
I wish I had played this as a kid, when games like these were more magical to me :( I was only 5 when this was released, and only actually played it for the first time when it came out on the PSP. Still had a blast, though!
i miss this so much. i am touch of this story. i've started play this game 2004. i was 8 years old. :'( . I wish i play this again. because it seems PS 1 are empty in the philippines.
+Carl Anthony Argamosa If you have a smartphone with the performance of a nexus 4 or better you can play this game on your phone. 1st, get the PSX playstation emulator from the playstore. Next, get a app called 7-zipper. Next, find the ROM for this game; that is the most difficult part. Use the 7 zipper to unzip the file and than to covert it to a .BIN file. Play this file type on the PSX app. Give it a try! Nothing better than playing Star Ocean 2 on the bus or at home or when you get a lunch break at work or school!
Without a doubt, Star Ocean 2 was the best rpg I played on PS1. Other than somewhat boring turn based rpgs it had the RTS battle system. Moreover the item creation, the story, the music, the characters... It was just perfect. It was clearly underrated and not many people know this brilliant game.
I remember every time i got to Rena's town, i would get so calm hearing this music and passed out, this had to be what 20 years ago? Today was talking to a friend saying i wish i knew what would knock me out asleep... Then i recalled this music. I laughed going, got it, i'm good. I hope to have awesome sleep to this
I got this game when I was like 12. I wasn't good at it. I came back to it when I was 21 (which I've done for quite a few PS1 games I wasn't good at) and loved nearly everything about it.
In the past, i finished several hard games and i pass my high school degree without help. Then, at university i was major several times and spent times in mma sports. I mean, yes, our génération had their own jewels !
Oh man, the feels... The nostalgia... best town OST EVER. I hope they come out with this game on ps4 in the near future. Not too sure if they will use the psp version or not, but my favourite star ocean game. Also my favourite ps1 game. Yes, even better than ff7. ;)
well you're very right on many points but this isn't a town song, this is the music of the Shingo Forest. It would be indeed nice if this came out for PS4 but only if it's the original version - not that crappy version for PSP that dubbed voices in for everyone. Part of the enjoyment of these old games is reading everything, to give the characters a voice in your own mind and set the pace for yourself. I'm not saying that no RPG should ever have voices for the characters, SO2 had voices in the battles, but I'm not a fan of all the game dialogue being read out by voice actors. I just think that if a retrogame is going to get a rerelease and give everyone voices for the entire game, every single line, i think they should have a toggle for that. Battle voices only, full script, total mute. those would be in the options menu.
@@glenngriffon8032 Finally someone understands the true meaning and heart of these old classics, it was the fact we had to read text and IMAGINE how the characters talked
Quante notti passate a questo gioco che secondo me è il migliore RPG mai realizzato, indimenticabile nostalgia di Celine,Diaz,Rena e Claude. The Big Four.

This song brings me back to H.S days in the 90s. Just wanted to RPG and chill. No stress, stay up late and eat pizza. Still have this Gem on PS. ❤
i...love this game and the characters...the soundtrack make me cry for the nostalgia...

so nostalgic my 2005 year when i still in junior high school

My brother and I played this. My first game. 💕 i'm happy for you, hope your sister and you can still enjoy each other's company
Did we have the same copy lmao back then the only time the game froze was that exact same flooded scene !!!
My game also had issues skipping when the town of Clik flooded
Got the same memory :) miss my sister some times. My disc didn't skip though but hearing this takes me back to the summer of 99. Man... what a time...
This is my wake up alarm on my phone. "Cuddle" is the one I listen to whenever I wanna fall asleep.
This song always makes me feel sleepy. In a good way, I love the song. It's dream inducing.
This song evokes so many emotions, it's truly beautiful

hard for nature to re claim something that literally absorbs energy sufficient to destroy the universe and ceases to exist lol.

Probably the most ethereal song to come out of the golden age of JRPGs. JRPGs of that era were truly magic portals to other worlds.
This might be the most serene thing Sakuraba ever produced. It will never seep out of my brain.
