  • Hello and welcome to Scale Stuff, in this weeks video I am going to be building and painting the Takom 1:35 scale Mammut VK 100.01 (P) model kit. Takom 2156
The Mammut or Mammoth tank was one of the design stages of the more famous Maus tank, this paper panzer never got off the drawing board but became more part of the public conscience thanks to games like world of tanks.
In this video I build and paint the model kit, talk about a few problems I had along the way and point out a few things that you need to watch out for when making this model kit
as always thank you for watching I hope that you find the video helpful is you are building or planning on building one of these plastic model kits at home

Awesome video!! Literally just finished building this same kit today before watching this video. I had fit problems with the road wheel placement. Followed the instructions and that did not make sense to me. Adjusted the wheels so they would be opposite to what the instructions want, but they fit way better. Also, fit problems with the curved rear deck - have a noticeable gap on one side. Plus have a gap where front part of deck and hull meet. Dry fitted numerous times before glueing into place but guess i missed something somewhere. Yep - agree that instructions can be vague in places, especially step 9. Studied that step for about 45-minutes and only noticed that the part numbers were re-arranged differently, but then noticed the drawing of the mantlet. Also, placement of a few parts were quite questionable (makes me appreciate Tamiya's instructions greatly). Was a fun kit to build until placing the final hull parts on but....got it done. Now just have to finish painting and place the tracks onto kit. THANKS for the heads up about the tracks - i also like spray painting tracks before final painting. Now will do that by hand. Watched of few videos to see if anyone had fit problems with the hull and so far seems it is just me. Oh well, that is what tarps and camo nets are for.

Cheers mate glad you enjoyed the video. Yeah the road wheels on this are a nightmare there are just so many of them and the instructions could do with a re right, I didnt have that trouble with the front bit (at least not that I can remember now)
Glad you got the heads up as well, the tracks really got me I wanted to make the tank rollable and them melting hurt, wish the kit said what they where made of.
What paint job you going for on this btw? I was tempted to do the green and yellow octopus camo but had not long done a king tiger in that

Going with the primer color with gray splotches, as if it would look like a pile of rubble.

Great video! you're the only one i have seen to build this kit. Bought this myself when it came out for pre order on emodels, paid some 65€(over 700SEK) or so for it back then and waited a while for it be sent. Had contact with them several times since it took so long. Said i were to wait for them to "look into it" but never heard from them, asked about it one more time and they replied that i have to report missing order not later than 3 months after being sent.
I lost my trust in them totally, but i do want this kit togheter with vk 168.01 or Type 205

Thanks mate, Ah that sucks sorry you had that, and on a preorder to, always takes the edge off of the enjoyment when you bother to preorder to! There are a few of these kicking about on second hand never opened sites and you could get one for 2/3rds of the price if you shop about

Thanks mate, yeah for such a beast its really a quick build, just watch out for the tracks and spray paint as they dont mix well, if i did this again I think I would want to weather it more, and maybe do something a bit more with the camo rather than primer, as I feel I wasted a hell of a canvas, but I got a red primed one for the collection so at least thats out the way now

@@scalestuff1066Wel, I managed to snag this beastie and I have started it. Just the wheel assemblies so far. Taking my time with it. I refer to your video for all the things to keep in mind. I hope to do that camo pattern in the instructions with the white striping, the winterish looking one. Again, thanks so much for an informative video!

@@scalestuff1066the armor would have held up to almost anything the allies had excluding bombers- however the 100+ tons frame of the vehicle would have made it slow and difficult to transport much like the Maus sadly, it's likely that it would have had issues with the drive train, engine and suspension too

@@scalestuff1066 I think one of the mauses was incomplete and got destroyed by planted explosives, the other is in a museum in the UK
They are still awesome machines regardless, while I don't think they'd be particularly practical like say the Tigers or panzer 3/4s, I do think they could have been put in at least limited functioning order
