We interviewed Roman Loban, the German representative at the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest.
Roman Lob became famous only months ago, when he won the German talent show Unser Star Für Baku. However, music has always played a great role in his life.
Roman Lob was born in Dusseldorf on July 2, 1990. Having won the German casting show "Unser Star für Baku" he is going to represent Germany in the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest. Music has played an important role in Roman's life from the very beginning, since his grand-father used to play the organ at the local church. He also sang at the choir of his kindergarten. Later on, Roman Lob learned to play the piano.
According to him, he's been making music since the age of eight. Since 2005, Roman has been a member of several bands playing the drums or singing the lead vocals. In Baku, Roman Lob will perform the song Standing Still composed by Jamie Cullum, Steve Robson and Wayne Hector.

I love Germany as well as Germans. It's a scenic country with very sincere, friendly and sensible people. I assume that Roman is a perfect reflection of it and I wish him all the best in the final. I'm sure he'll do great! Hearty wishes from Lithuania.

That's what I was thinking when I first heard it was Jamie's song. But then again, isn't Eurovision today more like a contest between Western and Eastern Europe? So basically, the Brits, the frogs, us Krauts, we're all a team.

Ich bin Deutsche und seit einem Jahr auf ner englischen Schule. Die Leute haben ein halbes Jahr gedacht ich sei Amerikanerin und ich schaue alles in Englisch und lese in Englisch. Es gibt viele Deutsche die gut Englisch sprechen. Man muss sich nur damit beschäftigen.

yeah, and for this we waited 28 years.....but i have to say: we deserved the last places everytime, our songs were really bad^^ but roman is great, i dont think he will win but he will reach the top 10 and that is like winning for us. lena was the absolute exception!

Roman is not a russian name. It is of latin origin and its quite international now. I dont know what "lob" means in russian, but in german it means "praise" or "compliment"

The song that he sang is created by BRITISH singer/song writer Jammie Cullum.... i dont understand the criteria of this Eurovision anymore, i thought this is suppose to be the platform where talented people from each countries in Europe can show "the world" what they can produce? ie British citizen singer singing a song that produce by british song writer, etc? if all mixing up, why it bother put the name of countries?
