Hey Steve, service manuals on eBay for this 1983 CL9000. And I think this video is great! Lots of humor and getting a few things working again. Plus the manual, a true blast from the past. It's gonna be a long haul to the end, but oh boy, is it gonna be nice to hear it roar again. What would you have said if someone said hello when you called? 🤣
The Ford cabover is in great condition but the wiring can be a beast to figure out. Like you said off chassis is the time to get the 3 systems in working order.
I'm completely mesmerized by your restorations! Each piece you work on becomes a testament to your incredible skill and dedication. Thank you for sharing your amazing journey with us!
I wonder if TFC, has a donor truck from back in the day. That would be cool. You guys seem so knowledgeable about these trucks. Chris is a Godsend. Keep on keepin on brother.
That motor on the passenger window may be original. I remember a company I worked for in the 80s had some 70s International Transtar COEs with power passenger windows and power mirrors. Also, 41 in Wisconsin just became an interstate highway less than 10 years ago under Governor Walker, and 41 has been under construction ever since to get it up to federal standards for interstate status. That owners manual is cool and will be nice to have when the truck is done. C series trucks are cab overs the L stands for Louisville where the L series trucks were manufactured. Keep the videos coming! 👍
You can remove both signal light assemblies and have someone rotor mold / spin cast you copies out of resin. You can get them chromed and then re-installed on the truck. The same thing can be done with the lenses on the signal lights.
Also they can be 3D printed that is happening a lot in the collector car world. As long as you have the old part to scan you should be able to copy it.
Can't wait to see that beauty up and running I fell in love with the Ford CL9000 when I was a kid because I used to live near a trucking company and they had a brown and white one named big piece and I loved it I would be at the gate every day just to see it driving out ,keep up the good work Steve
That's cool the radio still works. I bet u guy's will be happy hearing it starting for the first time. We was very happy hearing our KW Cabover start for the first time and moving out of the shop for the first time. I was happy driving it around the lot. Still had to make a few adjustments. Then I got Jessie and Nana (Her Grandma) and my godmother in the back (Sleeper) and I had a mechanic follow us in the shop truck in case something happen. Nothing happened on the 15 mile drive. The interior was still not 100% completed. It's all finished inside and outside. It drives excellent. We drove it around locally. Me and my wife Jessie and Nana are going to be taking a load to Washington (State) I had people tell me that I should get a Green Apu System. I did tell that guy that there is a video FSC Trucking that's on UA-cam and he has a Green Apu System in his Cabover. The guy stated that he has seen u before (He didn't say when)
Great video Steve and Chris. Never hurts to figure out what works and what doesn't. Smart to fix it before you reassemble the cab on the frame. Looking forward to your next video stay safe Steve and Chris.
You should find a late model Mack garbage packer frame and chassis and mount your cab on that. Then you could have the one and only cool low rider with a sleeper.
Steve just a stupid thought, you were saying about the bunk heater box, you don't need it mate, your putting on the Green APU, well that's what I thought, you could put some metal where the heater box used to be and have a straight through storage cabinet, like I said, just a thought, keep up the great work guys. 🇬🇧
I think you want to have one of the best shows there is I enjoy watching your show can I watch it every chance that you post something keep doing what you doing man I wish you all the most I wish you all the best man can you big props
Old maps, old GPS back in the day! I can’t wait to see this old Ford done and running! Be like watching White Line Fever the Blue Mule, I love that old COE and the movie.
Simple trucks are good reliable trucks. I'm a mechanical person myself. This is the start of something awesome on the best channel I know as I enjoy climbing under vehicles myself and doing repairs and modifying stuff. Nice one Guys.
Take the IGN smith to a Lock smith and they will make a key for it. And hopefully the doors will be the same I Love how you guys work together. Keep it up!!!
Ford Motor Company manufactured the dashboard with plug in gauges . They advertised this refinement in truck publications along with their four point air suspension cabs and windshield wiper system .
That is one of the most beautiful truck ever built! In my opinion of course . I still don’t know why Ford stop making this project … awesome design … great engines … congrats buddy …
My younger brother and I used to build wire harnesses for hot rods, pickups jeeps. But part of what was supposed to begin our Business fell through cause we were going to have our Aunt involved but as we were fixing to start, she passed away. Her husband well he was going to get his fingers in an she said no. Well that was history.
Steve, some of those ford cabovers actually had factory elec. Passenger windows. But from what this video showed me,all systems are still operational. And just need gone through. I call that a win.
My Cousin’s husband was one of the Ford engineers on this model truck. He left Ford and went to Freightliner when Ford stopped their heavy duty trucks.
The CL9000 was quite advanced in its day, it was a huge departure from the very basic design of the W9000. 8-track was pretty well dead by 1983, so a top end radio would have been AM/FM/cassette tape.
You guys are doing what the factory did, parallel assembly lines. Actually, it's very smart to do it this way. Working on what you can while waiting for parts to work on the rest.
I'm glad to see you and Chris working on the Ford it's going to take a lot of time and money to get it back to working order. Just like my 69 chevelle I took my time and did it right the first time. Steve your channel has been doing fantastic thank you
If you do go with led bulbs just make sure to get the color bulb that matches the lens. Red led bulb red lens amber led bulb amber lens. It looks so much nicer and gives a lush deeper color. I've seen people put white led bulbs behind colored lenses and it never looks as good.
Personally I enjoyed seeing some signs of life in the old Ford. A plus to finding the owners manual should be a fuse chart. Good luck on the continued restoration.
I ran a European Ford tractor unit or semi as you call them, and it was in two halves like yours, they used the Renault/Berliet cab on a raised lower section because of the Cummins engines. It had to be raised because the French trucks used low V8 engines. They were way ahead in design and I ran mine in the UK,Europe and the Middle East for many years with no major problems.I can’t post a picture on here but just look up the Ford Transcontinental and you will see, they came with a double bunk cab that you could almost stand up straight in.
It may have looked like you were just goofing off but you were a actually tracking stuff down, part of the job of getting it on the road again. Lotta work, will be interesting for sure.👍
Video was to be fun, but also to determine what it will take to do this regularly to not just figure out the plumbing and wiring. But to run it as good as a simulation as I can while we work on the rest of the truck.
It may take you a little bit to get parts, but I'm in Maine. And I work for my cousins. We used to have a couple ltnine 1000 louisvilles, and we always bought our parts from whited food in Bangor Maine, and if it were still available, they could get it for us.
Hey Steve, I don't know if they have truck-specific kits or not, but if you want to convert the 9000 to LEDs, 3 try checking out Super Bright LEDs! When I was still truckin', I was always ordering stuff from them! Awesome prices and very rarely out of stock on most items!
On turn signal i would take off cab. Go find LED light that you like then take everything to a machine shop have new aluminum base made fit for cab and for for your new lights get one made for left and right . Then polish them shiny before put on .
Ford called those instruments gauges “ 3 o’clock gauges”. So, at quick glance if all important gauges ( oil, water, battery, air…) were at the 3 o’ clock position, you were good to go
@fsctrucking Bruce Wilson could hook you up with 2 brand new Peterbuilt frames from some prototype electric trucks that he's scrapping out. That will cover you for the 359 and your Detroit. Have you considered titling the Ford and Chapel Trailer as an RV? That route would make titling and insurance a lot cheaper.
I asked about buying something from Bruce once. His price was 2X it's worth. I can build a frame for less than he'd sell those based on the past. The Ford must haul freight to earn its keep. No RV.
Chris is a genius he’ll have that truck rebuilt and working
The perfect truck simulator 😎
i love to see these old cabovers being restored
Your video might seem dumb to you but I’m enjoying every minute of it.

The best thing about CL9000 is fully air ride cab , 4 points , really nice thing to have on all cabovers
Awesome video steve. Cant wait to see the ford starting up once again in 25 years

I wonder if TFC, has a donor truck from back in the day. That would be cool. You guys seem so knowledgeable about these trucks. Chris is a Godsend. Keep on keepin on brother.
Chrisss'.! Make sure no naked wires in the steering harness/column. Thumbs up guys 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
what an asset Chris is to your business Steve. he is smart and gets the job done. yes sir!

I remember when those trucks were new and fairly common sights on the road. The interior of that one is in great shape for it's age.
A fun video filled with many small victories. I enjoyed every minute of it. Even the dang radio works!
That sleeper is one wide and two deep. My wife and I spent a few nights in one like it. It was a 78. It had a Cummins 290 in it.
I remember a old white western state with that woding on it 1wjde 2 deep on it as a kidd

Those new work shirts look really good.
The right power window was a factory option We also had a KW cab over set up that way
That really looked home made. I thought the extra button on the dash operated that window but it turned out to be the horn.
The beginning of the FSC fleet 🚛👍

been a while... HOLY CRAP the shop is spotless!!!!
Awesome video Steve great to see the lights working
Steve, they may not have known it at the time, they were saving this truck for you. God always has a plan. 36:54
Its great to see how well you two work together to figure things out. Your successes are coming sooner than you think.
Simple trucks are good reliable trucks. I'm a mechanical person myself. This is the start of something awesome on the best channel I know as I enjoy climbing under vehicles myself and doing repairs and modifying stuff. Nice one Guys.
Great video shows you can prepare things ahead of time so it’s out of the way for next steps
Nah forget the blower heater box green apu keep that engine nice and toasty...cant wait to see that thing come to Life running the Highway...

Ford Motor Company manufactured the dashboard with plug in gauges . They advertised this refinement in truck publications along with their four point air suspension cabs and windshield wiper system .
It's a good video, Steve, keeping old-school trucking alive
Glad to see you working on the ford
Great video, and what you are doing getting things ready makes a lot of sense. Get every thing done possible before you put the cab on the frame.
Steve, that was me that blew the horn on 495 in Massachusetts
Great music score Steve.
Great work guys, starting an adventure 👏
Ford was really advanced on their big trucks. They were the first truck manufacturing co to color code all their air lines. Very tight cabs.
Work work work.....don't forget to play play play.
I think it is neat that y'all are getting this old cab over back up and running. Good job guys.
That is one of the most beautiful truck ever built! In my opinion of course . I still don’t know why Ford stop making this project … awesome design … great engines … congrats buddy …
Didn’t think this was a stupid video at all. I thought it was very cool seeing what all worked on the CL!

8-track was pretty well dead by 1983, so a top end radio would have been AM/FM/cassette tape.
You couldn't hardly find an 8-track with a search warrant by 1983. I had a used Sony am/fm with a cassette player at that time.
Now you probably want Apple Car Play or an Android equivalent with Bluetooth, Sirius XM and cameras.
Nice mix of the videos Steve!!
Sick build, Cueball!
Cant wait to see it on a frame and firing under its own power! Then the yellow pete!
Always ready for an FSC Video drop!
The days before mandatory long breaks when you could get some work done and sleep later !
It's not dumb it's smart because that way you know where all the buttons and are and if everything works
LOVE Ford CLs, and nice to see one being saved - though I wish it was being revived for regular work service!
This is awesome seeing the Ford slowing being reborn
You guys are doing what the factory did, parallel assembly lines. Actually, it's very smart to do it this way. Working on what you can while waiting for parts to work on the rest.
Steve, I thought for sure when you turned the radio on, we were going to hear the Truckin Bozo come across the radio waves!
I bet it did once upon a time.
Miss ya bud, welcome back. Please keep the videos coming .Living vicarusley through you and Orwell. Cheers

Good idea.

It was a fun vid. I love the looks of the cab. 2001 spacey style. Cabover's rule!
I worked at a station right off 41. We had an entrance / exit and a two bay garage to work on vehicles. That was over 30 years ago.

There was a guy in Canada who did a cl9000. For heat and a/c he fit after market a/c inside the stock heater boxes
He's probably right about the construction zones😂😂
Ready to hear it run
Keep the old style bullet lights, put LED bulbs in, they look good on top, and the bulbs are cheaper than replacing hole
Great vid
I have to say Steve I enjoyed it keep doing what you're doing thanks again in advance
Cool vid as I was watching it I thought a GMC erostar would be a great stable mate for it and a good place to mount your 12V71
God i love that dash look. For me, it's right up there with the Pete Corvette design and the old Macks.

On the back hole on cab i would straighting it then weld it up keep water out then put chrome over it .
Monday morning hi Steve Chris full restoration will be Cool 😎
one of the advanced things is the four bag air ride on the cab ford was the only ones
That Ford is a turn on switch and mash button start.
Good evening Steve
On turn signal i would take off cab. Go find LED light that you like then take everything to a machine shop have new aluminum base made fit for cab and for for your new lights get one made for left and right . Then polish them shiny before put on .
