    Summarized:
    1. Shoulders back, Chest out
    2. not short steps, but still not too long steps
    3. Lean forwards, especially at the start
    4. Move arms from ca. 10 cm before the chin to 10 cm(Pos1) behind the butt(Pos2)
    Pos1: Arm-Angle should be less than 90°
    Pos2: Arm-Angle should be bigger than 90°
    While moving the Arms from chin to butt/from butt to chin the arms should have a ~90°-Angle
    5.Try to cushion the feet on impact and preferably don't hit thé ground with your heel
    6. Look straight ahead
    7. Move one knee forward as fast as possible and pull the other back as fast as possible
    8. Body tension

    What's so difficult to understand is that all the other men in this field are some of the fastest humans in history. Some of them almost as fast as Bolt and yet he just glides away and gains meters once he can take full strides and lift his head. His top speed is just insane. He wasn't the best starter and he kind of struggled s bit in the start and was absolutely depending on the best possible start he can manage so that he didn't loose too much but no one else in that field has the capacity to reach the top speed he reaches

    This sh*t gives me goosebumps, as an athlete I know that feeling of nailing a sprint and feeling the power within to pull off an outstanding performance, a high that cannot be achieved through drugs, a high that I'm addicted to that happens once in a while, when you're in absolute flow state feeling like an utter beast. 0:50 notice how they run almost exclusively on the toes, you have to do this at high speeds because landing the heels is not necessary and can slow you down. If you try it for the first time it's tricky because you don't normally walk or run on your toes alone.

    • @TroubledCarOwner
      @TroubledCarOwner 8 років тому +2

      I tried running and landing on my toes at each stride. And yes, the "springiness" actually makes it a bit easier to pull and push myself for the next stride, and it doesn't feel that I'm punishing my knees as much. I don't actually have the coordination and stamina to actually keep that form for 100m. Sometimes it feels like I overdo it and it feels too springy, and I don't think that it makes me faster, nor is it safe.

Legs often hits their butt maybe transferring upfront momentum from legs to torso, same time as legs momentum is changed downwards to help get extra velocity for next kick.

  • @billyjohnston47
    @billyjohnston47 8 років тому +21

    Yes, fast twitch fibers respond to stimuli faster than slow twitch fibers. But the speed of the movement of the legs is not what produces speed in running. Force application to the ground is what produces speed. The explosiveness that you are referring to is power (force x distance) this is very important in the drive phase or the beginning of a sprint. That explosiveness or power is achieved by force that is applied to the ground, which is done at a slower turn-over the first 8-10 steps of the sprint. I agree with what you said about powerlifters, but getting stronger does not require you to get bigger and lifting weights is not necessarily the best way to get stronger.

      Yes this is true

      Billy, what sort of training would you reckon increases the force of application to the ground?

    • @billyjohnston47
      @billyjohnston47 8 років тому +4

      I use plyometrics and bounding drills to develop the strength and tension in the ankle. You can develop more pounds of force versus lifting weights. The correct mechanics and the coordination and timing of the foot striking the ground is very important. The ability to create tension in the ankle is important in developing reactive force.

    it's called a toe scrape my friend. It limits the distance that the foot travels and helps to maintain a longer ground contact time during acceleration. Thus, more force production in the early stages of the race. It's done intentionally. Chambers and Gatlin, amongst others, have begun to adopt said technique as well.

    The whole thing about fast twitch and slow twitch muscle fibers is not really important in running fast. It is strength, mechanics, and coordination. If we get stronger (not bigger),develop good running mechanics, and develop coordination in the muscles working together in a very complicated system.

    • @jesseb9864
      @jesseb9864 8 років тому

      The CNS (imo) plays the most important role. Also, your stride length and "explosiveness" --if you will-- are extremely important :P

    • @imtiyazhussain8873
      @imtiyazhussain8873 8 років тому

      +Billy Johnston Don't fast twitch muscles contract faster than slow twitch muscles and correlate to more explosiveness? I think explosiveness is more important more than strength because powerlifters would be fast as Hell but they're slow and rather bulky.

      Running has a lot to do with fast and slow twitch and stride length and what determines the fastest is who can hold their top speed for a long time

    • @BigGamer9211
      @BigGamer9211 7 років тому

      Billy Johnston the only way to get faster , is to sprint. the only excersie you need is , sprinting. run, run, and run some more, the only way to get better at something is to want it deep down and keep doing it day after day.

      Actually, that's completely false. If you read his autobiography he talks about this, and that the critics claimed that was the reason he slowed down. It wasn't. Although I can't remember why he did, it was likely because he was so ecstatic he won, after so much training etc.

    • @ddomainessrsls601
      @ddomainessrsls601 6 років тому

      that wasn't usian bolt in the first clip to be honest usain bolt has the worst start as he is the tallest meaning it is harder for him to come out the blocks because he is taller. the reason he is faster is because of the power he produces and the long stride length of his legs.

  • @LunchtimeHoopers

    *THE REASON THE FASTEST SPRINTERS ARE BLACK:*
    black people evolved in hot climates where they developed longer limbs to torsos. this was because the ground was hot and that protected your internal organs (heart lungs stomach etc) by keeping them farther away from the torid earth.
    White people evolved in colder climates and developed shorter limp to torso ratios. This was because they needed shorter limbs to keep their internal organs near the earths core.
    so it's limb to torso ratio and add in fast twitch fibers in the calves of people of west african decent

    • @rmalikrayanmalik

    • @raybartels5089
      @raybartels5089 9 років тому +1

      jimmyjoemonkey ***** Not to burst your bubbles, but fast twitch fibers are most prevalent in cheetahs and springbok. It allows for quick bursts of speed and cannot be "grown" or just after training tirelessly, pop up. More muscle with slow twitch fibers allow 800m sprinters to keep it up, and quite undebatably, allow for 100m calf movement.
