  • Prophet-5 Demonstration:
This recording was done exclusively on a standard Prophet-5 synthesizer with a bunch of overdubs. Tom Darter did the keyboard work, Harn Soper did the engineering, Dave Smith did the producing, and everyone (with Ed Rudnick) did the mixing, programming, etc.
Prophet-10 and Polyphonic Sequencer Demonstration (from 05:43 onwards):
This recording was done exclusively on a Prophet-10 with the optional polyphonic sequencer. All segments (except the effects and the Rite of Spring sections) were done live, with no overdubbing. Dave Stewart did the keyboard work, Harn Soper engineered, Dave Smith produced, and everyone (with Bob Styles this time) did the mixing, programming, etc.
Both recordings were done at Music Annex Recording Studio, Menio Park, CA.

My favorite synth demo ever (the P5 part by Tom Darter). Have listened to it literally a thousand times, and I will come back to it again for at least a thousand times. ♡

It’s amazing how I got to visit this video UA-cam post : I was just going through my old Contemporary Keyboard magazines from the 1970s. Tom Darter was one of the editors, and published articles on Music Theory Seminar. I decided to Google to find more info about him, and voila !, here is the link to this Prophet video ! I absolutely love ❤️ this demo. Evatone Soundsheets - a company from Clearwater, FL manufactured the actual “sound sheet”. Those Contemporary Keyboard magazines from the 1970s and 80s are just great 👍 The emphasis was on actual music vs just bunch of technical stuff. There you had columns from Dominic Milano, Leonard Feather, Craig Anderson, Billy Taylor, Tedd Joselson, Tom Darter, Jim Aikin and others. In - depth musical analysis of the current trends, and classical keyboard techniques. I regret that young generation today doesn’t have this kind of inspiration- back then you waited for the next issue, studied it thoroughly etc. And the articles, interviews were just great. True - one can find everything on the Internet these days with ease, but IMHO one learns on much deeper level when extracting certain info requires extra effort ;)

Does anyone know what piece of music is played since 10:17 ? It sounds like Stravinskij but I'm not sure

Yes, it’s Stravinsky: “The Sacrifice”, the second section of “The Rite of Springs”.
Trivia: John Williams quotes these opening bars in “Star Wars - A new Hope”. You can hear it in the desert scene, when the two droids are searching for Obi One Kenobi on Tatooine.
