    A friend of my Dad had a son that was involved in the Red Cross. When Jonestown happened, they were among those tasked with dealing with the bodies left in the sun and getting them back to the states. It scarred him for a long time. I can't imagine ever being able to sleep after that.

    Hearing about Jonestown is always interesting to me. I have two family members (by marriage) who escaped from the compound in Guyana. One was there when the shots that hit the congressman rang out. He took off running into the jungle and stayed there until rescue efforts began. Both individuals are still heavily affected by this experience.

    The Grizzly Man audio available online isn’t actually the real thing. It’s a re-enactment. The original audio is locked away where no one can ever hear it because the parents didn’t want the audio recording of their son’s violent demise to be publicly available (which is understandable).

    • @chesterfeildsofa
      @chesterfeildsofa 2 роки тому +14

      what if it actually is the real audio recorded that day and it was leaked, so they figured best way to get people to disregard it as such was to claim its just a reenactment?

    • @jennontheblock2707
      @jennontheblock2707 2 роки тому +6

      This is correct. The actual recording was either destroyed or locked away so no one else could ever listen to it. The recording was apparently horrid and continued running until after the screams of both the Grizzly man and his girlfriend being eaten alive had ceased.

    • @valiantwarrior4517

      There’s a documentary about this. The real audio was given to Treadwell’s ex-girlfriend by authorities. She let Werner Herzog listen to it, and he strongly suggested she should never listen to it and destroy it. At the same time she felt she couldn’t destroy the last ever recording of him. She stated later that she hadn’t destroyed it, but kept it locked away securely.
      There IS a real transcript of the recording available online. The audio re-enactment has small differences, making it clear it’s not the real thing.
      It’s probably close enough to not matter much though. It’s still horrifying and heartbreaking. Thankfully, the lens cap was on.

I suffer from insomnia to the max & when I know I need to get some sleep I turn on a playlist, turn my phone lights all the way down, plug in my phone so it doesn’t die, put it up by my head somewhere so I can hear u good & I start concentrating on the stories ur telling. I usually don’t even make it through the first one or two & I’m out! Ur stories actually give me 1 thing to concentrate on instead of the usual millions that are usually running through my brain & keeping me up at night. Thank you for what u do!

    Unfortunately, the Grizzly Man recording one can find online is a fake. Indeed, very few people have listened to the actual tape, one of those few being director Werner Herzog, director of the "Grizzly Man" documentary. The tape came into possession of one of Treadwell's friends, and she gave it to Herzog to listen to. Afterwards he advised her to never listen to it. I don't particularly know why anyone would fake something like that, but I can only imagine that the real thing is far more gruesome than anyone can imagine. The documentary itself is also very interesting, and I recommend it if you want to know more about Treadwell and what he did.

    • @JDowell77
      @JDowell77 2 роки тому +7

      I was going to comment this as well. The actual recording is like 6min long & it’s in a safety deposit box & has never been released. The one going around is an reenactment. It’s still very bone chilling to listen to bc it does sound very realistic.

  • @AshLilyNeko
    @AshLilyNeko 2 роки тому +232

    I love you Joel and I hate to break it to you but the last one you included - the grizzly man - is fake. It is a remake taken either from the movie or just something people made to remake it. If you look a bit more into it you will learn that one of Timothy’s friends received that tape upon his death, listened to it once and destroyed it or locked it up iirc, I think destroyed though. It isn’t and has never been available to the public. He said that no one needed to hear that or something because it was so unbelievably horrific. Not saying it shouldn’t be included in your video here because it was literally so disturbing that no one has ever been allowed to listen to it but yeah. The recordings you can find online are all fake.

    42:32 that audio haunted me for a long, long time. Back in the early 2000's when they had a show on called Cold Case files, I remember hearing this audio and it never left my head. I can remember when the narrator Bill Kurtis said that this killer still hasn't been caught, I could remember praying that somehow, someway one day, could this killer finally be caught.
    And now, I'm so happy that even though it took soo long, That horrible man is now rotting in a prison cell.

    The Anneliese story. I think as soon as she started saying she wouldn’t eat that’s when they should’ve taken her to the doctor.
    I think IF she actually WAS possessed by a demon it wouldn’t matter whether she ate or not.
    BUT she chose not to eat and started to deteriorate bc of it that’s when she should’ve gotten medical attention cuz it’s like “either she’s gonna die bc of the demons or bc of starvation” like no.
    So I don’t think they’re innocent completely. I think at the very end they could’ve prevented the starvation thing 100%

    Almost all of us know the first story I think. It's just sad that a lot of people still think that the exorcists and her parents are the real devils who orchestrated her death. Last part of the story also mentioned that they refused to give her the psychiatric help she really neede like wtf... They tried, and used a lot of medicines for years. People just lack empathy for the family.

    • @fbmb1337
      @fbmb1337 2 роки тому +9

      I'm agnostic on the best of days, and while I feel the sentencing was too light, implying the parents 'facilitated her death' as if the story hadn't made it blindingly obvious they had tried conventional medicine for who knows how long and tried exorcism out of desperation is kinda disingenuous. But its hard to give genuine critique in here without being labelled a hater or nitpicker so eh.

    • @dustinspeicher3390
      @dustinspeicher3390 2 роки тому +11

      It's their belief that's necessary as it opens them up to then be accessed, while their belief also gives the entity the power required to have any physical effect within this dimensional plain. No belief=No power=No possession. This is also the reason why it seems like the people being possessed happen to be the most devoted to their religion as this increased belief provides increased power & ability to manipulate a space from which they themselves don't occupy. 33

      Funny how they only get possessed by whatever cosmic boogieman exists in their own religions or those they've been exposed to too. It's almost like religion is made up fairy stories and a person suffering mental illness can only draw upon concepts, ideas and archetypes and psychological symbolism that they've been exposed to...

      No, there's plenty cases of non-believers, or non-practitioners of religion seeking Priests for cases of exorcism and other unexplained phenomena. Not all turn to the Church - some turn to new age or wiccan practices in order to try to deal w/ the problem but that's like throwing gas on a fire.

    As someone who is more than familiar with psychology, I can say in confidence raising someone in a strict catholic home doesn't do anything like this. Statistically many become atheist and hateful towards religion or become the same as their strict caregivers. Religion doesn't have a negative effect on a humans psyche, but people that experience delusions already may be attracted to it. It's ancient beliefs and moral values, not a mental issue.

    The case of Jim Jones is somewhat baffling. In the early days of his ministry actually saved lives by helping people get off drugs. Then, something changed, and it's hard to determine exactly where he went off the rails, but by the end he was a drug-addled sociopath.

    The first story breaks my heart more than anything. It is clear as ever that her parents chose exorcism so they could contain themselves in the false reality the had built their lives around, whereas a proper mental evaluation would have forced them to confront the true evils they had inflicted as parents. Even the church warned them how wrong it was. It only goes to show the tragic results that come with forcing religion on your children.

    • @dustinspeicher3390
      @dustinspeicher3390 2 роки тому +13

      They tried everything as Joel explained, & the traditional western medical intervention was only exasperating the problem. The church representative initially refused, but upon seeing her a second time after some time had passed & she was receiving treatment he changed his opinion as she appeared significantly worse. The decline was so severe he expedited the approval process from the church which was granted. This religious route was the families last resort after western medical treatment failed & the grim realization that something must be done soon before it would be too late, so the way it looks to me is desperate parents allowed for desperate measures to be taken to save their daughter & when there seemed to be some progress being made soon after starting they then put all of their eggs in this basket & turning their backs on the methods that only seemed to be making their daughter worse. Imagine going through something like that, making those incredibly tough decisions as you watch your daughter suffering through life, trying everything with nothing working, only to be given some hope when the faith based methods seem to be having positive effects on the situation so your daughter goes through 70 whole session's of an incredibly terrifying process where at the end eventually fails & she passes after you had to endure watching her wither away & the crushing implications of such an ordeal only to then be put on trial right after. Then decades later people judge you based on how it turned out in the comment section of a website.

      Which is strange because in the Christian and catholic faith we believe you can't be possessed by a demon if your a follower. I think I heard another video about her that the priest's refused for so long because they didn't believe that's what it was because considering her families beliefs it wasn't possible in their minds.. hell I'm surprised they didn't cover it up completely.

Or maybe people are slowly indoctrinated over time? Whatever the true reason,it shows how religion & political movements have manipulated the masses through history. Right, and what mental illness gives you knowledge of ancient languages? Prior to the 60's Priests learned latin, the liturgical language of the Catholic Church, and it was common for the possessed to speak not only intelligibly in latin but in other ancient languages. In fact that's one of the signs they look for when determining to proceed with an exorcism. But first they have a full psych evaluation done.

      Okay, except I have more than one mental illness, and have been in places with many people with the same problems.
      It sounds so much like that.
      In fact it brought tears to my eyes to remember these times.
      If you believe it's not mental illness, you would be torturing a lot of people who are literally just that. Very sick, but unfortunately true.
      Crucifixes etc. can make me so angry, it feels like an electric bolt going through my blood.
      I hate them because religious people always think they can make people better with prayer. It's just nieve and pointless, it's also destructive when it never works and people have to go straight back to the beginning and start all over again.😒🙄
