For a minute there I was freaking out because I had a boyfriend named Jeremy with that exact same description.. he did actually become a meth king, had shootings with police and then recovered and asked for forgiveness from his family's... To do it again , and then again. I met him as a teenager in one of my trips to Texas and was in love for years without knowing about his behavior. I live in south America and for years didn't hear from him. I heard the story of his crazy life but one day we found each other on a social media platform. He told me about his past and that he was now recovered. I sense he wasn't telling me the Truth but I was infatuated with him so I disregarded the red flags and he came to my country... The story is good enough for let's read channel maybe one day I'll send it but what came after was hell on earth and I thought I was never going to be able to get away from him... So to hear this now gave me goosebumps. I'm sure there are plenty of jeremys out there who happen to be crazy but you never know.... Maybe it was him in one of his promises to get better.
Hey Joel, I’ve been listening to your content for close to 6 years now. You have gotten me through depressive episodes, break ups, my past drug addiction, and countless other hard times. I just wanted to say thank you for continuing to put out such fantastic content. Your voice has brought so much light and joy to my life and countless others would say the same. So thank you, and keep doing what you do
Story 7: my grandfather worked undercover and has hundreds of polaroids of random people. The people in the photos are all dangerous criminals that he keeps their mugshots incase they get out of prison and come after him. Some of them have the gang they are/were affiliated with or crime family they were loyal to.
"I feel like there's something in our blood that makes us more susceptible to mental illness" or however he said it. Does that person not know how genetics work?
Thanks For being such an amazing narrator, I've also been listening to you for 6 and a half years. You saved me alot of problems by just turning you on when I would get upset and your voice is so very welcoming and warm. Thank You Joel!!
I struggle to fall asleep. My mind races and its hard to calm myself. However you’re videos help me keep calm and focus on one thing at a time. Love the stories and you voice. You’re the best scary stories reader and i am so happy i found your channel a few years ago.
Joel, I would like to take this time to thank you for everything you have done for all of us here in the Let’s Read community. You have worked hard to get to you’re at today. You are now and ever will be the GOAT.
I have had a terrible week and now I am going to put on my favorite spooky man and clean my house. It always calms me to listen to you and get my house clean. Much love Joel 🖤🖤
I'm still convinced the person, who told the last story, was high on something. It just sounds so over the top and paranoid. And that conclusion that their family ended cannibalizing each other...I dunno, that to me is not really more plausible than 'moving away'. Besides, they also mentioned how uncomfortable the fiancé of the brother looked. yet they bolted away, not calling the police, letting this poor woman get eaten by the assumed cannibals...yeah, the writer sure sounds rational AF. Narration was top notch tho, great job, Joel :)
Also, why did OP grab a can of food and run off? That made no sense to me, especially since I assume he drove himself out there, considering everyone was already at the house when he arrived. Why did he leave his car? The whole thing sounds fake
Trucker stories and Police/EMS/911 stories do also!! 😍 Your videos are such a helpful, calming thing for me when I can't sleep and need to clear my head and relax. So, so grateful I found you!! Thanks a million ❤️
The story about the uncle in the woods is one of the grossest stigmatizations of mental illness I’ve ever heard. If you get your family members help instead of letting them wander around the woods alone they won’t break from reality so hard they break into your house. Mentally ill folks are far more likely to experience violence than commit it.
Whaaaat?? No way! All mentally ill people are crazy bad dangerous and we should definitely call police on them. Cops don’t have a long history of handling mentally ill people horribly at all! (I’m being sarcastic. All the stories involving mental illness were atrocious)
Most of the time, the police/social services/ those who have the ability to force those with psychosis to get help do not step in until some sort of violent incident as they can't force psychiatric treatment unless the mentally ill person is a threat to themselves or others. Even then, the period that they can hold someone for is usually only 72 hours and then past that requires a doctor determining they're still an immediate threat, which is usually not the case after three days of being forcibly medicated. In terms of anything longer than that, the family would have to go to court to essentially get guardianship (conservatorship ie the case conserving Britney Spears) but that requires them being able to pay for lawyers and to get a judge to agree that the person needing help can no longer have the right to care for themselves. Many time a judge won't do that if the person is still able to live by themselves and doesn't harm anyone (so the uncle spending years doing no more than wandering the woods by day wouldn't have been enough to get this.) The judge can also mandate stays in a mental facility but this isn't a permenant solution. Other than this, the person has to voluntarily admit themselves and allow themselves to be treated. If they're acting crazy but are not yet violent, many times they will not allow treatment and no one can make them do so. Individuals do have rights and in these cases, unfortunately these rights often keep them from getting the help they need but are necessary to prevent people from being locked up to rot in asylums for supposed "insanity" according to the family, something which was previously taken advantage of by abusive relatives. Lastly, oftentimes people going through psychosis will not even admit or even realize they need help. They usually cannot be reasoned with as they believe that what they perceive is reality. In addition to this, people suffering psychosis who do accept treatment will often only take their medication until they reach sanity again, only to think they're better and stop taking it or not want to have to rely of meds and stop taking it. All in all, familes of those suffering from extreme mental illness are stuck between a rock and a hard place and unfortunately it is never so easy as just "getting them help."
That last story is crazy. He did a runner and left his brother, sister and brothers wife behind and gave zero Fs. Just including them in the ‘crazy family’ part… when it was apparently just his parents acting crazy?
Yeah, I feel he should at least have called in the police to check a potentially dangerous situation in which there MAY have been people kept against their will. I mean, since the entire point of the plan was to stay put, it would not be hard to give them the exact location without much risk of the crazy people not being there anymore.
I love these type of stories! #7 sounded so weird I would’ve been creeped out too just by you sharing all that information it felt off! i would’ve been right there with you creeped out by those pictures! And how weird that the grandma left a letter like she would check up on that hiden trunk and in the attic . Anyways I could hear these stories for days just dumbfounded on how some families can b so weird and messed up. Some people really go through it. 🙏🏼
Jenna from story 6, the sister who finally found the portal she'd been searching for doesn't strike me or feel to me like she was on drugs and this was some sort of drug fueled delusion. It honestly sounds like she has some form of serious mental illness, like bipolar or schizoaffective disorder or something... i dont say schizophrenia because generally speaking those cases are a bit easier to pick up on and identify as such, nobody realizes that delusions come along with bipolar and several other illnesses... in my heart of hearts, based on the information given and the story told, I am absolutely convinced she's been dealing with a form of mental illness for a lot longer than her family will want to believe. the fact that she STILL refuses to talk to her sister about this portal thing says a lot... i hope she runs into someone who will get her some help..
Having been born in an area running rampant with it, it never ceases to amaze me how many of these stories seem like they can be explained by crystal meth lol
Can you do 8hour long videos? I love listening to your stories while I fall asleep, and when I wake up during the night, 3hrs isn't long enough for me 🤣
While not the scariest, I think it shows just how psychotic my extended family is: This story happened back in 1991, before I was even born, but I would pay a lot of money to be able to go back in time and witness this. In October 1991, my Aunt was throwing a Halloween party for my Dad, as it was his birthday, and my Uncle, who was a Cop at the time, showed up with his GF, who was dressed in a Cat outfit with a tail, and Cat ears, and a Leotard. My Uncle decides he’s going to be the guy to pull off the most romantic marriage proposal the world has ever seen. His GF had been involved in a hit and run accident sometime prior to this event, and being cop, he knew about it as the owner of the car she hit had reported it, so he has his Cop buddy come to the party, and announce in front of everyone (which was quite a lot of people as my dad’s side of the family is pretty big) that she was under arrest for hitting someone’s car and driving away. She’s standing there in her Cat and leotard getup, hysterically crying, begging the officer not to arrest her, and as he’s getting ready to pull out the handcuffs, he pulls out a ring instead. My genius Uncle, Romeo, came up with this gem all on his own. And she accepted. After which, he began to brag to everyone about the great deal he got on the ring. Needless to say the marriage didn’t last.
The one ☝🏼 about The Photos in The Trunk in the attic found by granddaughter is Totally Erie!!! And it’s almost unheard of for both old people to die at exact same time & day & with one another! And I’m SUSPICIOUS 🤨 too!!!!(LOL)🤨🧐
Those are my exact thoughts too. Their deaths sound very suspish. The arrows on the back of the pictures might be the method by which they killed or how/where they disposed the bodies. If only she left more informations in the note or even a confession.
My brothers, sisters and I had a very wicked stepmother, who didn't pull any stops trying, and succeeding in pulling my family apart one by one. Karma came around in the form of cancer in her later years, and I still believe she got off easy.
I’m glad to hear that I’m not the only one who binge listens while living life. I don’t watch the tv. You tube and Especially Let’s Read is just the best!
That first story was really refreshing. So glad Jeremy got his life back on track
Yes and what a great cousin to have still sent letters and emails to him and not just give up on him, I like that ❤

_Seven foot frame, rats along his back..._
😭😭😭
I hate when they write in about a story and say I'm not going to go into details...The details are why I'm here!!!
They obviously mean the actual names of the people included in the story...not the stories details...
I love crazy family stories. They make me feel like I’m not the only one out there with an “odd” family
Agreed
The story with Jeremy is So Inspiring & so happy 😀 he made it!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
"I feel like there's something in our blood that makes us more susceptible to mental illness" or however he said it. Does that person not know how genetics work?
Not all mental illnesses are caused by or susceptible to genetic influence.
Thanks For being such an amazing narrator, I've also been listening to you for 6 and a half years. You saved me alot of problems by just turning you on when I would get upset and your voice is so very welcoming and warm. Thank You Joel!!

Yeah that story was definitely made up. Good premise but the ending was so bad and made no sense at all
for sure it was made up or the writer was just as insane as the rest of them but doesn't realize it and is bad at writing to boot.
I smelled shoite on that story too. Crappy end to an otherwise crackin' ep
It's always sad to me when you can't even trust or be safe with your own family.
It’s a cold world!
🔥🔥🔥

Nothing this scary but I really know how it feels. Thank God for my non-biological family ❤️
