  • The surgery and hospital stay / My hysterectomy part 2
In this part 2, I will talk a bit more about my hospital stay, which was a weird one, and what they did. I stayed for one night and then I was back home the next day. As you might see on my thumbnail I was really swollen after surgery so I am happy that they tell you to take the jewelry off!
I mention some different things in the video, if you want to read more about it, here are some links.

Thank you for telling us about your hysterectomy surgery and recovery. Theres only a few UK videos about it. Although the hysterectomy surgery videos from another country are interesting , I wanted to know what my surgery might be like as it differs abroad . I appreciated the ‘warts & all’ as they say. It’s better to be aware and prepare yourself just in case. 😊 xx

Thank you for your video. I am going in for a FULL hysterectomy on Friday 3rd November 2023.
I am totally petrified. I'm having a cut from just under my chest right down to my pubic bone because the Pelvic Mass is EXTREMELY large. They are removing my uterus, cervix, Fallopian tubes, and ovaries. They are doing some sort of special wash to remove cells in case there are any cancerous cells. I will know anout two weeks after my operation whether anything was Cancerous.
I am now 67 but when I was 15 I stopped breathing because of an adverse reaction to a general anaesthetic. I had to be intubated which wasn't usually done for such a minor operation during early 1970's.
I am already on oxygen because of having Hepatitis C - I am a victim of The Contaminated Blood Scandal. I also have a rare Genetic Condition - Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS). My operation has been delayed while the surgeon arranged lots of tests because of my EDS and while the team learn about EDS.
I am so extremely frightened and my anxiety has been overwhelming. I'm too scared to take any Valium to calm me as muscle relaxants are dangerous for me. I'm taking high levels of Vitamin D and vitamin C but i must stop the Vitamin C today as it thins the blood. I'm already at high risk of bleeding because of the EDS so I have to be very careful.
Did they make you wear those tight stockings? I found these to be painful and danger of cutting off the blood supply to my lower legs because they were so tight at the top that they were literally cutting right into my legs. I told the Surgeon this so I'm not sure what they will do about those. My EDS makes my whole body extremely fragile so I get all sorts of problems and react badly to almost every drug.
They are not giving me Morphine because im not good on it. I'm having Oxycodone instead. I'm currently trying to find a suitable anti sickness medication because I reacted very badly to the last one I was given.
I'm praying 🙏 almost constantly because of such high levels of total fear and anxiety. I hope God will help me. I just want to survive this major surgery and pray I will😮 cope with the pain. Again extra pain because of the fragility of my whole body!

Oh, I can understand that you are nervous, all surgeries are scary and you are having a bigger one than me for sure. I will be thinking of you tomorrow, sending healing thoughts for the future!

Thank you so much for this video.
It was like me talking about my problem, except pain. I rarely had painful periods.
I will be 50 years old, soon. And I will have a hysterectomy because of an expanded uterus next week.
Hopefully, this will end all my problems.

I am so happy that you found it helpful. Now that a couple of months have passed since my hysterectomy I have to say that it is the best thing I have done. It feels so good to not have to worry about when my next period might appear or for how long it will last. And no pain! Wishing you all the luck and a speedy recovery! 💕

I’m having a laparoscopic hysterectomy soon and even tho I know it will be better for me I’m still pretty scared for the recovery. Xx

Oh, I know the feeling. Do you have anyone to help you at home? I am normally a very good healer and that was the same regarding this. For me it was more remembering what had been done and prevent any damage to the healing rather than pain. I stopped the stronger painkillers after a couple of days. One thing I will say, make sure you take whatever they give you for constipation, you do not want that issue after surgery 😔
It is, looking back at this, the best thing I have done!
Good luck and let me know (if you want to) how you got on 💕

@@HonestlyPlusSize thank you so much for your reply. I had a laparoscopy just before everything closed down in 2020 I got home and was climbing the walls in pain, my husband rang the hospital and they hadn’t given me anything for pain relief apart from paracetamol and ibuprofen beforehand. I think that’s what is scaring me to be honest but I am going to talk to my surgeon about my worries. I do have help at home I have my husband and 4 kids eldest is 18 then 17 14 and 12. My last laparoscopy was done by my normal hospital under the nhs but I asked for a referral to a private hospital and they have been so much better so far and I’ve only had one appointment. It would be great to talk to you privately if possible xxx

@@user-lq9ky1lc2o hello lovely. Yes I am ok it was the best decision I ever made. It was also the easiest surgery I’ve had and the recovery was so much better than I expected. It’s been just over a year since I had it done and it’s really changed so much for me.
I hope you are doing ok xx

Oh I forgot to say I have a "High Dependency Bed" reserved for me so maybe I will have less disturbances compared to you. I live alone and have no-one who can help me. I get 6 hours care paid for by the NHS towards my Private Carer. I pay for about 15 hours Care. My Carer will help as much as he can but I'm very frightened of being at home alone. I've been told that they will not allow me to go home until they consider me ready to be alone.
However i don't want to be hanging around in Hospital as I have not been able to have COVID vaccination or pneumonia.
So many things to be so concerned about!

Thank you. I am not looking forward to the stay on a hospital ward in the NHS. They are always so noisy! I am hoping they find endo or adenomiosis in my case as it would explain the pains I have had for 7 years now. (Diagnosis for that is IBS and I take daily medication). Reason for hysterectomy is continual bleeding for 16 months now, managed fairly well on high doses of progesterone. My womb cannot hold a coil.

I am so sorry to hear about your struggles! Omg.. bleeding for 16 months! You should have had proper help a long time ago!
Now, a few months after my hysterectomy I can only say that it is the best thing that could have happened! I feel so much better, the pain (caused somewhat by endo around one ovary) went away and I have to say that the healing for my was easy.
Sending all my best to you 💕

@@HonestlyPlusSize Thanks. After an ultrasound revealed a 24mm endometrium which appeared cystic, I paid for a D&C and hysteroscope privately a year ago and they fitted a coil. That left me in agony and even heavier bleeding for a month afterwards, so the Consultant put me on progesterone pills as well. It did confirm that I didn't have any abnormal cells, just 'disordered proliferative endometrium'. So, that is a relief. When I saw the Consultant again on the NHS, and still was bleeding every day, he increased the progesterone. In March, I was due to have an ablation. When they went to do it, my womb was anteverted and they couldn't do it. They changed the coil, which was pretty much fallen out anyway and put me on the waiting list for a hysterectomy. The coil gave me significant pain and cramping again and I asked for it to be removed as they had stated it would likely come out again anyway. So that is now gone and I used progesterone pills. So, symptoms are under control mostly now. I'm just looking forward to being the other side of the hysterectomy, mostly because I want to get another dog and can't get one until after my recovery.

I'm pleased you are healing well and that the source of your pain was found and subsequently removed.
Fingers crossed you don't get hurled into an early menopause. I'm in the throes of that now and in all honesty I've had enough - about 6 years now if you include peri-menopause. X
