This color educational/ "scare" film is about the history of drug use and was made in 1971. It is called THE PERFECT DRUG FILM.
Title card: A MacMillan Films Release. Children move in circles. People pass out pills. A man surfs. A narrator talks about a search for a perfect drug. Title card: EM Films presents THE PERFECT DRUG FILM narrated by Beau Bridges (:08-1:28). Beau Bridges is on screen. People purchase and take a perfect drug pill. Science is claiming they have already developed it. Primitive men walk and eat plants. We have always wanted to feel good. Drugs would get people fired up for war or fun. Opium was medicine and a drug. China and England had a war over opium (1:29-5:12). Japan had a war with China years later. Homer the greek talks about opium in the famous work: the Odyssey. By the 1800s, opium was in the USA. Before the civil war, morphine was created. Heroin was created in the late 1800s. Many died from it. In the late 1800s, many people created a 'great drug' but this was before the FDA (5:13-8:14). Breathing in ether fumes made people high. In the early 1800s, young people had ether parties. Many people had ether parties. People tried to create new 'laughing gases' after ether was deemed illegal (8:15-12:16). Modern science looks at barbiturates . A doctor discusses how bad abusing them is. And now people are shooting 'speed'. A doctor discusses how speed is very bad for you. Blood vessels get destroyed by meth (12:17-16:57). Marijuana is discussed next. It has some positive affects. But it has negative ones as well. The doctor says we don't know about physical difficulties but as with tobacco, we will learn how bad 'pot' is bad for you. Lots of people are bored and turn to drugs and no drug is ever enough (16:58-20:29). LSD is up next. LSD isn't natural, it is made. Poison is sometimes mixed in with LSD. LSD can open repressed memories and create delusions as well, causing death or suicide. LSD might be used for cancer patients in the future to ease pain (20:30-23:40). Back to trying to make a perfect drug. Showing what happens when you take a pill that relaxes you and how by doing this - you may be calm but things will not change. You are just surprising and running away from problems by doing a pill. By doing a 'perfect drug' - it doesn't matter as it's not your problem - but it is. Because if anyone is doing it - why not surgeons and teachers? Or your parents? And what about if people of government do drugs? (23:40-28:27). Drugs don't solve problems. Mankind might stop developing if they just wanted to relax and feel good. Are we truly ready for a perfect drug? (28:48-31:01) End credits (31:02-31:48)

why did they make these things so cool to watch when you are high
Anybody else notice the fact that Beau Bridges looked stoned out of his head?
Yes!
Yeah, he was totally baked
Shit. I remember making this comment a year ago. 🤣🤣🤣
Ya we where all thinking that too lol
Ludes!
5 and a half minutes in, and the narrative goes full...crazy. This is awesome
The neanderthal who eats some roots and all of sudden becomes an olympic gymnastics champ made me 😂😂😂
The logic that if there was a perfect pill, surgeons, firefighters, construction workers would take it on the job 👍🏼
The surgeon dropping the heart 😂
Anybody else suddenly got the urge to do some drugs?
Yes ...me. In need of "Reds"(Seconal) please. BAD INSOMNIA & newer meds simply don't work on me very well😑. Price went up 1000% back in 2015 $250 for #100 NOW: $3600+ for the same #100. (SICK😫)...only want #30 & my doc simply refused to write them.. OBVIOUSLY due to high abuse / fatal OD's in the past 87yrs on the market. ( very early retired pharmacist due to M.S. taking me down for the count )😕
I already did.😊
This is back when people were nice enough to ‘show you what you did wrong’. I’ll show you what you did wrong,
As the description suggests, this is an old drug "scare film" from the 1970s. And indeed I was very scared the first time I saw it. The one saving grace was when Beau said, "Tell us now, Dr. Cohen...." That did it for me - I melted in my chair. Just loved it.
The narrator -- host did a great job.
So the Perfect drug is in reality a 1000 MG THC pill ? 🤔
Back then ? 1970 🍊 sunshine . 200 mics
1975 ..I vote ..Rorer 714.
1979... herion became drug of choice

"I need a new drug" (bowbow) "one that won't make me sick" (bowbow)
Very good. Huey Lewis and the News are really a part of history now so I quess it is hip to be square.(sorry best I couuld do). I did quite enjoy this film it wasn’t too ridiculous as some others.
Remember this film from my 1970s high school days.
"I'm giving you an F". This kind of movie scared me back in grade school!!
Groovy
I remember back in the 70s every night we'd sit down to dinner for a big helping of Baked Beau. Was best with black beans but still good a la carte.
Dude got so high he fought a lion! I'll take two 🤣
Bridges looks like muscle car driver with STP. The stickers on hallucinogens
The part where everyone keeps popping pills when something bad happens 😂
STP ? When I was a kid that meant stop teasing polacks ! well Im from the northeast and theres lots of polish people here. ahahahaha.
Cannabis is the perfect drug
Not perfect

poor beau....living in the shadow of " the dude ".
Saw this in drug awareness class in basic training.
Go ask Alice I think she'll know !
This is hilarious ! (as I reach for my next Adderall 30mg pink pill ) but Beau Bridges and his Doc probably would be surprised to know how this shook out by the year 2020 with people like me sporting a quite legal Rx for a very controlled substance that really helps with a diagnosed disorder but causes *very* uncomfortable withdrawal if stopped. It's shifted to the doctor-patient relationship and the legit pharmaceutical business.
Adderall is illegal in Japan.
I finally kicked amphetamines (prescription of course) 60mg Adderall XR because of the shortages it was hell running out I have been off of it for about five months now and finally feeling better. I'll stick to mushrooms, DMT and herb.
Nah fr I'm on 3 dilly 8s (hydro morphine) n its the only thing keepin me off dog food
I don’t know about all that when your saying your grabbin another Adderall that sounds recreational to me lol
Iam just bugging ya I take methylphenidate 60 mgs a day at 20mg intervals to keep a baseline in my system.
The drug works great, better then the alternative!!
@@ricktherrien8235 I’ve used that and it worked great.
Say yes to hugs, no to drugs.
I mean, I get his point, we can’t run away from our problems with drugs, but the world he describes sounds like one where people were getting addicted to this perfect drug. Which… ends up making it not a perfect drug after all?
Hosted by Beau Bridges, with a cameo appearance by Paul McCartney at 3:02. Neato.
What about old Robert desirous at 15:14

Bridges! Looks like a "Bridges" lol
That doctor was a butter fingers lol
Love these scare tactic films. They used to show us similar films on the projector in dare class. They would also show pictures of sterio type drug addicts on the overhead projector. All while a police officer lies for an hour about how my life is wasted the first hit of reefer. Unfortunately it is now true, you can't buy anything off the street. I only buy my marijuana from a licensed shop.
The Dude's less talented brother does not abide.
Just think how different this documentary would be if it were hosted by The Dude and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
@@collegeman1988 That's just, like, your opinion, man.
As an Englishman I recognise the host but don't know his name. But he reminds. Me of Bill hicks. Is he from texas
Take a chill pill.
2:34 dude is flipping out.
As Bill Cosby would say, "Don't put the PILLS in the PEOPLE!!".
Used to have gas frolics with nitrous oxide in high school.
Are you ready........for my eyebrows?
Their version of 1700s is very... creative.
I know quite a lot about addiction to narcotics even though I never tried oxy's, fentanyl, hydromorphone,, or heroin. My favorites were Ultram, Morphine, Lortab 10 with blue specs, Percocet, Xanax 2mg, Valium, and top it off with, Ambien (name brand only). I am now on something to make me not want those drugs anymore (Thank God).
In search of the eternal buzz.
I think beau bridges and jeff bridges both had swiming pools and everytime they ended up in pool. Like dallas family inlaws oil company showed up. JR in bedroom. Somebody gets knocked in the pool. You people visit inlaws on sunday.
Beau Bridges punishment for "Village of the Giants"
There are parallels between the elusive search for the perfect drug, the perfect utopian society, and the perfect religion.
YOU ARE THE PERFECT DRUG THE PERFECT DRUG THE PERFECT DRUG

LSD lysergic acid diethylamide 25 is the 25th derivative of ergot and is called acid when produced in a lab and LSD when organically produced as if can naturally be found in grains when in the right environment and conditions.
Acid is measured in micro grams or one millionth of a gram (1 micro gram) and as little as 80 micro grams can produce a long acting high in non users.
Tolerance builds quite rapidly and you must increase dose by double if using the next day and so on.
LSD is a highly potent drug and is very useful in therapeutic settings and applications for those facing death, for chronic pain and cancer patients, for alcoholism and drug addiction and substances such as psilocybin (active ingredient in magic mushrooms) have been used for mental illness and depression as well as addiction and treatment of many psychiatric disorders.
LSD and psilocybin have become quite common in therapeutic approaches for many mental and physical disorders or illnesses and treatment is quite effective.
