When you cut the rafter tails to a line you could set the line 44mm back from your finished length then rip a piece of timber down and stitch it on the ends of the rafters which will give you a fixing point for your plywood and will be more solid behind your fascia detail, good video by the way lads

All the new regs on insulation are good if it's a new build, but i can't see the point if a house of that age or older don't match what's being added, i think there should be some leaway based on the age of the property, bearing in mind how expensive these new regs add to the cost.

Enthusiast amateur and forgive possibly a silly question. Why not timber frame? Would it not be quicker? And is there not a possible problem with water ingress into the cavity insulation from the outside bricks? Loving the videos by the way.
I’m a massive fan of timber framing being a carpenter but not everyone is sold on it and some customers are hard to convince its a good way to build. Architects will generally design it out of traditional brick and blockwork. There’s no issue with the insulation getting wet mate no and there’s no such thing as a silly question you either know something or you don’t. We’re more than happy to answer your questions. Will damp get across from the outside brickwork, soak into the wool insulation, then go into the inside brickwork?. Should there be an air gap in outside walls like that? Water always finds a way doesn't it.
Double joist trimmer is far too light as a beam for that span. Wont fail but it will bend especially with a full snow load. And ends need well strapped down against wind uplift
Hi Gordon I’m sorry mate but I’m gonna have to disagree with you there. A double C24 over that span carrying the load put onto it is more than adequate. We don’t have anywhere near the snow load your talking about to have even a slight impact. What I can agree with you on is that it needs strapping down and it does and is shown in another episode. what's happening to that cctv camera then? i've got the same set up and they removed the camera that was in the way but they couldn't get it apart as it's corroded together so hopefully you don't have the same issue
@@mrabuilders6723 spent a weekend with various implements attempting to get it apart but no luck and i'm loathe to cut it apart only to find there is no uk distributor for the parts and then needing to buy a PAIR as they won't sell them separately...

What is this extension going to be used for? It seems an odd size, not quite big enough for a dining area for example, amd looking at how big the garden is im surprised it's not 2m longer
@@mrabuilders6723 it’s usually 1:40 max fall and 1:80 minimum fall so yes 1:60 is the middle ground. I’ve just done a flat roof on top of a mansard roof and that was specified 1:60 fall.

Luckily ours was all good and the wire came down from the soffit so it was an easy move. 👍🏻

It depends where you look and who you talk to. I’ve been told 1:40 to achieve 1:80 what ever that means. Maybe that’s where 1:60 comes from 😂
