I was weighing weather or not I wanted to roll a undead warlock or a undead shadow priest, after learning the cool lore about the cult of the forgotten shadow (also a role player haha) I checked this video and now I am super excited about rolling one now. thank you. :D
Spriest are in a pretty broken state, falling to the bottom of the dps tree, especially at max ilvl, but don't let this concern you for three reasons. 1) they are a very fun class, especially because it doesn't take long to become geared in both heals and dps for more options. + they have some nice survivalbility trick like fade and shield. 2) Dps is rated as the highest hitter as 100% and everyone else getting a percent of the damage that that highest hitter does. So while the Spriest falls low it still maintains about 80-85% which is quite good considering how easy the class is to play(this is not true at max ilvl unfortunately), 3) what comes around goes around. With WoD coming up we can expect some sort of a buff becuz of our low dps so keep that in mind that if you roll a Spriest now, when WoD comes out, you may be top of the dps board.
Before i get jumped on by this comment and be obliterated, but I'm pretty sure he knows what these abilities are and how they work. But not everyone who plays WoW is a seasoned veteran of the expansions, he goes over the basics because they're important to new players looking to re roll. And it helps players understand the class they are playing next to in 5 mans and beyond, every little helps guys!
Awesome, Preach! How you read my mind, i was thinking of getting the Priest instead of the Lock, i played it last time nut that was last time, & things change, will try it again!
He said it in the same sentence. "However Void Shift, Void Shift is a very powerful cooldown and I know I've used it on several occasions to pull people out of the fire and save people. And let's not forget while we talk about pulling people out of the fire - The Life Grip..." To be honest >_< watching this again gives me the feeling that he doesn't play a Shadow Priest at all.
i agree, dropped my pally after years of playing , and now my main is a shadow priest, im in love with that class, and dont forget that u can heal with dps gear/ dps with healing gear
Since Pandaland hit, classes have been so well balanced in terms of PvE that I doubt he will. There are some that are lagging behind others but regardless they are all viable in all of their playable roles, despite the fact some, like locks get picked up a lot more for those cutting-edge guilds, over mages or SPs
I feel exactly the same. I unsubbed last month because my main, a shadow priest, was feeling boring. All my other 90s are tanks and had done decent content with them. I feel that we lack the explosiveness we had before, and as shadow we don't bring that many utilities.
I can't get into WOW anymore, can't stand the grind. But I used to love my priest, one of my favorite builds toward the end of my WOW gaming was a hybrid Holy/Shadow build. Very versatile and engaging to play.
Good advice! I have had a SPriest in the wings for a couple of months, but had lost interest. Now I plan on going back to it to see how fun it'll be. Also, have you or do you plan on doing any 5.2 Paladin Videos? I haven't been able to find the one for Protection Pallys.
@jaykayebandftw Well, what I pointed out is that he used Power Infusion just 2 seconds before the boss became unattackable. That means he wasted the grand majority of that cooldown. It's most of the time better to sit on the cooldown than waste it, you want to maximise your uptime on a boss, and just pressing your buttons instantly makes you lose dps.
Here would have been my fixes for MoP Shadow: Shadowfiend does additional damage to elite mobs, Psychic Horror no longer requires Shadow orbs. Fixes single target damage and lack of burst in PvE, while not making them overpowered in PvP, and a quality of life change for PvP we all wanted. WoD made them slightly worse, and as of Legion they are unrecognizable. I miss my orbs and I miss Devouring Plague.
I have 1 of every class and i have to say S.priest is up there as a favorite of mine. Thou he can be frustrating at times i found myself liking the spec more and more as i played.
Hi, just a couple of things. 1) I'm not sure you know what Void Shift is. 2) Shadow Priest burst is fine. 3) You don't kill the bouncing balls on Heroic Lei Shen. 4) As a Shadow Priest in a reasonably high end guild, the only thing we get sat for is our skill. 5) You didn't really talk about our talents at all >_< specifically our raid speed boosts and our T6 healing talents that can provide huge help to the team.
Best move I made was re rolling to my priest. Being able to play Disc then switch to shadow is great I love my priest and I don't think I would want to play any other class!
Have to say I haven't played WoW since Vanilla and have been thinking about getting back into WoW. The complexity of the skill juggling scares me though it really wasn't all that difficult to be a good raider back in Vanilla but now...I'm not sure if I could keep up...
No burst? Bah! Rolling those 100% crit DPs + Mind Flay Insanity is insane, some of the biggest hits i've ever seen. It's all about planning and 'right place, right time', the burst potential of a Shadow priest is exponential when planning and maybe a lil' RNG is in place.
yeah in heavy movement fights you could spec into DI but in most fights Power Infusion is better, haste helps to all your dots plus it has a 5% dmg modifier
Rotation is easy I guess, I really have fun playing a SP but let's face it, they need some love... Their DPS is way too low on early gear and it gets a little better on 505+ gear... But they are in the middle, at best.
Preach, I know you've been asked SO many times about this but here I go: Can you please do a guide that is actually understandable on the Green Fire last boss? Been fighting him for about 5-6 hours now, following a guide that does keep me alive through the 2nd Felhunter phase but... The damage isnt enough. He's at about 30-35% after those phases, and at that point I have 1 min to 45 seconds to kill him. My iLvL is 498 PvE gear, rolling with the 2 set bonus from ToT. 100% Crit trink and Destru.
I find that I disagree with a lot of what you say about Shadow's weaknesses. There are quite a few misconceptions in this video about the usefulness of some of the talents (moreso in 5.3 when the video was made) and the fact that Vampiric Embrace is a weak raid cooldown. I do agree with your overarching point, though. Shadow is amazing when played correctly and carefully. Looking for ways to maximize effectiveness is the hallmark of a great player and that shines in Shadow.
I wish the Priest damage spec was focused on Holy damage. I have a 40 priest (Holy/ Shadow), and I find Shadow fun, but I don't feel like it fits the class. Give Shadowform to Afflic Warlcks. :P
uh, preach, rogues have a new aoe ability in mop called crimson tempest, which is an aoe based on combo points for flat damage plus a bleed on all targets afflicted. they apparently saw your thought process
I really hate how the shadow priest is now compared to Cataclysm. They've really removed our usefullness and our dps (especially our insane burst that we had in cata), the complexity, the 3 dots, the MOVEMENT-BASED shadowy apparations and the dark archangel (I can still bring up a lot more that I miss from cataclysm in the shadow priest but I'm going to limit it there). I dont want to start a war with this comment, I just want you to know what I think.
I've gotten my Shadow Priest to level 82 and I'm still not having fun with it. It's also my very first caster so I'm finding it difficult to cast on mobs that have low HP, and when they die in just a few short seconds, cast on another and they die before my spell even does damage. I feel like it's really bring my DPS down in instances. I'm one of those girls who are more self conscious about how much damage they're doing than what I'm going to wear that day.
Lol, "shadow priests don't have good burst" I burst at least 800K on almost every encounter as a shadow priest with 3 orbs on almost every encounter... Can reach 1m with bloodlust active! And Twist of Fate does not give mind spike procs... It's the From Darkness Comes Light talent that gives mind spike procs. Unless you know how to play DoT classes, shadow priest won't be for you.
No burst?! Mate i am a shadow priest with atm 10 of 13 heroic down in ten man and last week i had 3 tricket procs in a row on the opener and bursted 735k dps dye to my 100% crit trinket. Also we had alot of burst in dragin soel with that 4 set popping fiend and spamming mind spike and MB. Also if you look at the dps a good sp does you will see how strong VA is with for example 230k dps on twin consorts heroic 10 man that i do it is so strong in last phase you realy heal ALOT. But still a goodvid
I thought warlock destruction were easy to use but with your video I see shadow priest are easy to learn and to use but which one should you first be to get into the caster dps
Also Preach I got really really sad when you continiusly used mind blast with 3 shadow orbs a couple of times... ='(
my question is spriest or mage (any spec). dont care for warlocks, so it comes down to this. which is more fum to play? both pvp and pve, for me, oh ya and to solo with. of course mage are straight dps, but the of the priest class has shield and healing making it pretty survivable, not sure but maybe even compete with warlocks. but still i wonder spriest or mage?
I know this post is months late but I just had to respond. It depends on what you enjoy doing in the game. I tried the trio of the cloth classes and found the priest to be more versatile and fun to play with. Although the SPriest does not do much damage and are low on the DPS chart doesn't mean you can't do damage. You may do less but they still pack a punch. One of the best parts of SPriest is being an off healer which will occur. They are my fav class! If you want to do damage and heal than go Discipline.
I have all 3 of them. For soloing is warlock................spriest..............mage. in short warlock by far. Pure raid dps - warlock and mage vs sprist wins. Raid utility spriest (off heals are very powerful). pvp all 3 classes are fun, warlock has all 3 specs viable, mage has 2 (fire, frost) very strong and squishy if not played right just like spriest. I main lock pve wise (cuz of addons I don't pvp that much with him), arena mage is a blast, bgs spriest is a blast.
Preach where you raiding with Method cause i saw Sparkuggz on the top of the dps just wanted to know if your raidind with them or just a quick lfr with a few of there members like so he can see
on a single target standing still over say 5 minutes theyre very good but mix other things in there and the dps drops some. using spriest wich ive had for 3 years id say dps is very good but not the best.
spriest performance in pve vary with the encounter, some fights its hard to be competitive while in others they really shine, and they bring a lot of utility. They are overall fairly easy to play at an acceptable level but somewhat challenging to excel with, but it certainly can be done.
Jonathan HB Vic lol didn't you say before that they are equal to mages and locks? Which is it? Since you dont seem to know ill tell you, if they have their 4 piece and very high haste like 50% they are still challenged on certain fights but can beat out other classes in the right hands in fights where there are bursting opportunities such as sha of fear, protectors etc... but they are an underdog class to be sure, which is why I enjoy playing them plus, they are pvp rapist.
John Lacy I previously stated that they do equal/close to damage as mages and warlocks, never said they were equal and it really depends on what boss we're talking aswell. For example on fallen protectors a Spriest can out damage a mage. I think I've been raiding more than you this tier tbh but I can ofc only speak from my own experiences. Never seen them top any fight this tier.
Why do you assume you have raided more than me? lol Not that it matters, I am just always curious about why people make assumptions concerning people they know nothing about.
lol I can never roll the right class in wow, I started with a demon lock in Wrath, then switched to destructo in cata(they sucked in a general aspect in cata). then in MoP I roll a Spriest when they finally buff lock and nerf SPriest from cata. I still main my Spriest today he does good in a general aspect. hes mostly in heroic raid gear but there is times where I struggle to out dps a lfr geared player in a fight and turn around and out dps a mythic player the next fight.
Try out the class. Get to level 50 or so. If you dont love the class then you will hate it later on. In order to really tolerate the spriest you need to be devoted as hell or you will hate it because it does have thw shittiest dps right now
Totally agree with you. I have noticed a lot of people starting out with SPriest but at higher levels I don't see them in dungeons as much. I have gotten to the point of Raids or PVP yet. Honestly I suck at PVP, I would just stand their bubble, renew pop a SW:P lol
How is doing over 100k HPS for 10 seconds without having to stop dps (more if during BL which is often coincidental with periods of high inc damage) in any way not that good?
Coolest clas in the game IMO
Shadow Priest has been my main since TBC. I miss TBC Spriest the most.
I was weighing weather or not I wanted to roll a undead warlock or a undead shadow priest, after learning the cool lore about the cult of the forgotten shadow (also a role player haha) I checked this video and now I am super excited about rolling one now. thank you. :D
Can't wait for the rest of this series..
And I agree here. Shadow Priests are as unique as they come.
Love my shadow priest more than any other class!!! But I wish they would give us back our passive VE.....loved cata Spriest the best
Preach!!! This is an awesome guide like me who rolled a new 90 shadow priest!!! Keep up the good Work!!!
I really like this new series you got going here preach! gives a really good look at how the class plays and performs, more plox
I'm so excited for this series. I've been looking for a new class to level, not necessarily reroll, just have fun with.
Mike, you get me excited about replaying my alts :D
how come you don't have a "the legacy of the priest"???
+Matt K YET. He's still making them.
YET
Yea I understand. If I were blizzard I would make the shadow priests back to what we were in cataclysm when the next expansion comes.

i actually let the dots drop off if my MB is up or anything of higher priority, but only for a split second
I feel like there should be a question mark in the title.
i play shadow priest mainly because it is a spec mainly based on DoTs and it's fun as heck.

Dammit, this is the internet, stop paying attention
embrace is pretty decent with plague + insanity. expecially if you pass haste threshold (the second one at least)
I would have lol hard if it just went to preach face and him sayin "yep" then end video lol would be best 5sec video ever
Blizz should add a 1Min CD so we can move while casting for 10sec
I miss the From Darkness, Comes Light and Glyph of Mind Spike synergy...
Ring of fire can be place multiple places at once
I wish the Priest damage spec was focused on Holy damage. I have a 40 priest (Holy/ Shadow), and I find Shadow fun, but I don't feel like it fits the class. Give Shadowform to Afflic Warlcks. :P

He didn't mention the level 90 talents, they do some mean offhealing.
Lol maybe except for affli locks with procs and boomlkins shpriests have the sickest bursts in the entire game
Like this new series.

I thought warlock destruction were easy to use but with your video I see shadow priest are easy to learn and to use but which one should you first be to get into the caster dps
damn sparkuggz taking names
In PvE no, we just got a ridiculous long cooldown on it while we can't use it at all in arenas now.
whats that grid addon
if your fighting low health mobs use shadow word: death. if your fighting a mob will die very quickly use mindflay. :)
sparkuggz! owning the deeps for jin'rokh
when should u use it
Don't know about any1 else but draenorEU on horde is becoming world of priests. Sick of getting 98% of them in arenas
Bet you get this a lot, but what add-ons are you using? My UI is kinda messy.
He's using Dominoes, Quarts, Omen, and recount from what I can see
I really hate how the shadow priest is now compared to Cataclysm. Are they remowing mindflay insanity in WoD?
no
When you gonna post this weekends web show :(
Please do should you roll windwalker monk and assassination rogue
The akward moment when you see Sparkuggz from Method being in your LFR group...
been using my spriest as a bank alt for some time now if I had actual time to play him i know i would.
Never mind that. Tried 1000 times yesterday. woke up this morning and one-shot him :).
they are a good all round DPS but hmmm they need a mega buff for more people to roll them
make video on, Should You Roll A: Arms Warrior
I have never tried a priest so I dont know much about it, but I saw a shadow priest pulling 300k dps in a raid.
Some warlock Love now pls Preach :-) awsome vid btw
my question is spriest or mage (any spec). dont care for warlocks, so it comes down to this. which is more fum to play? both pvp and pve, for me, oh ya and to solo with. of course mage are straight dps, but the of the priest class has shield and healing making it pretty survivable, not sure but maybe even compete with warlocks.

I miss Archangel.

You played with Sparkuggz? HOLYSHIT
YESSSSS, spriest is the BEST.
How did you level so many chars so quickly? Idk im crap at it so rerolling becomes less of an option /sigh
Will u ever say u don't like a certain class :)
Shadow Priest what do you think you are a Warlock or something. You should just roll a Warlock
Try out the class. Get to level 50 or so. If you dont love the class then you will hate it later on. In order to really tolerate the spriest you need to be devoted as hell or you will hate it because it does have thw shittiest dps right now
