Our young pastor did his best with God’s grace and blessing to keep our church open but sadly the church board went against him. Things were not pleasant so he resigned and got a little home church going. The authorities never interfered with our Christian gatherings. We are in a small community and I am sure that it was common knowledge that we were gathering every Sunday. It was a blessing and so was our young pastor and his family. 💞🙏🏼

When I see negative comments like that about Pastor John, and his taking a stand(which all believing Pastors should do!) I realize they really lack understanding, or they would not even say those things about him, or any other pastor who takes the same stand. Seems we are getting ‘sorted out’, you know? I’m glad to see the truth of those ‘leaders’ who are misleading their people. Thanks for sharing this, Tim💕

I've been waiting for this movie to come out and I've now seen in twice and already pre ordered the DVD. I've been spreading the word about the movie on Facebook to bring people's attention to it that would otherwise not know. The film accomplished in me exactly what Mr. Shannon and Pastor MacArthur wanted, it encouraged and emboldened me for the times of persecution that we know we'll be facing in the future. How did it accomplish that? By clearly clarifying Romans 13 to understand that Christians don't need to submit to the government when they demand we disobey God. Christ, not Caesar is head of the Church. We have clear biblical guidelines to stand on. The movie also clarified that neither the county health department nor the state of California had a legal right to shut down the Church, for the Constitution of California guarantees , “Free exercise and enjoyment of religion without discrimination or preference are guaranteed.” God vindicated Grace Community Church because they followed the biblical imperative to be in unity concerning the things of God. It took them a while to reach that unity, and it was done without coercion (as some caricature Pastor MacArthur doing).
As for Pastor MacArthur wanting to make some pastors and leaders feel guilty, well, there are some in particular that should feel that way. Especially the one that criticized John for choosing to fight what he considered one of the smaller battles instead of waiting for a bigger, more important battle. But JMac knew better, that if the county/state can get him to compromise on a small, insignificant point they will keep coming for more because they want it all, period. JMac didn't back down, he held to his sword and God vindicated him.

Even though fellow pastors were sending me videos of MacArthur in his office explaining why we need to obey the government and close for a while, never once did I give in. I can look back and thank God for the strength and courage that took because I never felt so emboldened by the Lord while feeling so abandoned by others who proclaimed to be my friend. I have been saying this for a long while .That they need to stand for Jesus now. But no one took it seriously even though many I talked to agreed one hundred percent. This was there time to defend our lord but yet they did not instead they bent over backwards in order to comply with these unlawful mandates and rules. We as Christians looked more like fools. We where being hiprocrits preaching one thing and doing the opposite. It has weakened my relationship with a church I believed was definitely on the right path. Our congregation grew immensely over the years just sence I became a member to the point we had to move forward and build another church and it was big and modern filled to the rafters to say. And yet when the time came they stumbled and fell short to defend the Gospel in my opinion.

The pastor is not the only one who can hold church!!! With a membership of thousands...there's got to be more than a few people with a fairly in-depth knowledge of the Bible. I believe what Jesus said to the Pharisees "it is an adulterous generation that seeks a sign" I've seen in my lifetime of Pentecostal & Foursquare belief i have overlooked the true spirituality of experiencing the daily maturing (sanctification) of the Word. Worshipping God not the emotion of feel good sermons manipulation of music, "signs",salesmanship. There is plenty of true experience in seeing the MIRACLE of person getting saved & growing in the Spirit, fellowship of the saints as iron sharpens iron. I can still feel emotion & raise my hands in worship to God & His truth. The idea of letting experience interpret scripture is anathema to the Word. We told to follow the Lord w/our whole mind, body & soul not just go to church to get pumped up emotionally and think we are more spiritual and mature than we really are I'm through with that. Don't be like the "liberals" of our day & be willfully ignorant bc the other side has told you a narrative to keep you away from learning more. Human nature often goes to extremes. Staid legalists or name it & claim it. Straight is the road & Narrow is the gate & few there be that find it.

Our Calvary Chapel was the recipient of sound equipment and furniture from a church next door that closed during COVID & never opened back up. There were many churches that are now no more, probably a good thing. Find a Church that preaches the scripture expositionaly. The word not some feel good off the top of some supposedly spiritual ignorant “I preach what the howly spirit tells me when I git up there”. God’s Word is the literal embodiment of His Spirit. If you want to know what God thinks read His Word. If you want to hear Him speak audibly, read it out loud!! It’s an adulterous generation that goes after signs. Worship the real God ! Let yourself be willing to hear truth, be emotional about truth not manipulation of clanging cymbals & emotional salesmanship or stay with the woo woo & fulfill the “inching ears” prophecy! I left it and am blessed!

The disgruntled muttering against Pastor John and the "Essential Church"
Romans 12:3, "For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so AS TO HAVE SOUND JUDGMENT, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith."
This we know and are forewarned. Amongst the flock of Christ Jesus will be those whose vanity will compel them to disengage themselves from examining closely the Living Word of God the I AM WHO I AM; and therein from their mouths will proceed impious condemnation against those shepherds who do not cease to proclaim the instructive will of I AM WHO I AM. And we are forewarned that such vain mutterings are recorded in the Annuals of Heaven wherein every idle word is kept. The redeemed must comprehend that there is an inescapable Law of Causality--for every antecedent cause, whether it is man's spoken word or his action, there is a resultant effect; and for those who name themselves amongst the redeemed, the effect either glories I AM or condemns the mutterer. Matthew 12:36, "But I say unto you,' That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the Day of Judgment.' "

Read Acts 2 how God adds you to the saved, the church. v42 says, "those who received the word and were baptized were added...." v47 says and God added daily those being saved. God adds you to the saved, the church when you receive the word and baptized. Have you died with Christ? have you been buried with Christ? been raised with Christ? have you been freed from sin? Has your old man of sin been crucified with Christ? So, how do YOU OBEY the DBR of Christ? Read Romans 6, it tells you

I generally support the stand of the church against government control. However, I would like someone to explain to me the difference between the government regulating the meetings of the church through building and fire codes vs a pandemic. Both are/can be health issues, but I don't see any churches campaigning to end local fire and health codes. Don't get into the argument about "settled science". If you do, you are basing the hierarchy of authority on our current understanding of our natural world - which of course is changing constantly.

First let me preface this comment by saying; I love and respect pastor John and am so appreciative of his biblical stance against government tyranny. But I don't think this particular comment is warranted. John Macarthur is a highly visible public person with a huge national and international following. His church is highly influential with tons of resources in which to fight a battle like this. It was never likely that he or the elders were ever in any danger of actually being hauled off to jail. Can you imagine the public outcry and negative publicity to the Govener and his cronies.
The fact is that most doctrinaly sound churches across this country have less than 200 members and 4 to 5 elders, many of whom were put into untenable positions. They did the best they could under the circumstances. Were they wrong? Perhaps. But saying they should feel guilty sounds prideful coming from a pastor with all the clout, support and resources of Jmac and GCC. I still love and support pastor John, I just think this is a misguided comment. Let us be careful in where we cast stones.
    Much ❤ in Christ

To clarify, I think Pastor John said he wanted to make *some* pastors and leaders feel guilty about this issue. Personally, I think he had several particular pastors and/or leaders in mind when he said this. I can think of three in particular, one a prominent pastor and two that are prominent leaders, all of which aired their criticisms publicly, seemingly targeting Pastor MacArthur without saying his name, but it was pretty obvious they were addressing JMac. I will also say that JMac loves these particular men, and after seeing the film and how God worked this whole thing out, he's hoping they, after being made to feel a little ashamed, will be encouraged and emboldened next time around. That's how I see it.
