Look after your knees, especially the “ kicker leg.” I’ve owned a lot of dirt bikes ( lm old,..lol) and all of them in the 80s,( told you lm old!) we’re kick start only. 5 and 600 cc four strokes. They were complete pigs to start. Especially if you’ve drowned it in a river,or stalled it on a hill. Two of the worst bikes lve owned, were the Honda XR 600 and Yamaha TT 600. I fractured my knee trying to start the XR one morning. It kicked back and drove the knee up into the throttle. One month off work, and years of problems. The TT was no better. It was 2 strokes after that. ( yes,l kept riding, lol . Once it’s in your blood,..). Ive had one knee replacement, and the other one is just before Christmas. If you want to be able to chase your kids and kick footballs with them, take care of your knees! I couldn’t. Just sayin’,..
Check the oil only after it has run for a few minutes first or you will add a ton and overfill it leading to smoke and seal leaks! Also, you spoke the correct starting method but then didn't use it! NO throttle touched and kick slow until the lever pops and then go to the top and kick...she will fire right up.

Might be low still but i work on these often and ive put oil in before starting the bike then after it runs.. I check it then it was over filled. So know i take out the sparkplug and turn the motor over for a lil while maybe 20 kicks or turns with starter. Then check the oil

I have a 2011 DR650se I love the bike. I got a set of supermoto wheels and tires and dirt wheels and tires. It’s a heavy bike but that’s ok. It definitely checks all the boxes for me and what I want in a bike.
Lol. It was at one time tho. Biggest giveaway is the locking fuel cap. Only the street version had those, but yeah that wasn't even dirt legal. Maybe garage paperweight. 😂
Thanks for making these videos, I have learned a lot from them. Why do you never try either (quick start ) sprayed in through the cab? I have used this to start reluctant starters and to diagnose carb issues.
The dr350 and 250 are a pain in the ass to start. My son has owned a 350 for like 5 years and has it down to a one or two kicks. But trust me without knowing the steps you'll be kicking for a while and why they had no electric start???
Find a kickstand for the poor thing. I hate when people take them off! It's not an mx bike. It's very inconvenient having to always find something to lean the bike on or having to stop wherever you left your triangle stand.
Yep, brings back some good memories. Definitely the good ole days!! Awesome find. Still can't believe all the compression 170 crazy. Cant wait to see you restore it..
i actually own a 1999 dr 350 dirt model converted to street legal. its my first ever bike! i also picked up a 2023 grom, but i love the DR for its power and 6 speed. my cam chain is also noisy at the moment as well. definitely will be looking forward to you tearing into the engine on this thing so i can follow along and work on mine! ive also heard that these bikes are notoriously hard to start, but i thought i'd add that i can kick mine over after 1-2 kicks completly cold and she starts right up. no need for the decompression as well which may indicate my engine is tired lol, but it still starts right up!
It's missing a lot up front, light assembly, gauges, etc. Dr350 is a sweet bike, I take mine everywhere and have really trail ridden it hard. That air filter looked really dirty to me. On the Dr's, the air comes in from the top middle and the place the filter gets caked in dirt can't really be seen easily from the outside. When you take it out, you'll see what I mean
i have had a couple of these. an "S" kick only model and an "SE" e start model. great bikes with a cult like following. with correct carb that is jetted properly they not to hard to start once you have the routine down pat. but....... the e start model much easier. lol.. great do it all bikes that bout as reliable and hard to kill as a klr. and.... always run it for a minute or so before checking oil as it will leak past check valve into engine if it sits a few days.
I owned one of these . I think you overfilled the oil . You have to run the engine to get the oil into the upper tank then you check the level with the dipstick after you turn it off
That looked like a Mikuni CV street bike carb. I would like to see more Dual Sport stuff. Dual Sports are the best bikes and Suzuki did a good job with those DR bikes.
Pull the de-comp lever all the way in and hold it , kick down on the kickstart slowly , then release the de-comp lever , bring the kickstart up to the top and the. Kick it like youve never kicked a 4 stroke before . I owned a 1998 dr 350s , honda xr's are similar to start
Hiya Joel 350 bulletproof engine yours been abused they make great power you can put better cams in them even sweeter your carb don’t look like the one it should have also parts super cheap 👍👍👍
The issue is all the holes someone drilled into the airbox, on both sides. They then put the little hole filters into the holes. So drawing too much air. To balance out, they put three washers to lift the needle. If you get a new airbox you can remove the washers.
A dirt bike with knobbly tires, no headlight, no taillight, no turn signals.. You think that's street legal? Let's see what happens when you pass a cop while riding that on a highway. That bike is Absolutly, positively, NOT street legal!
You can put an fcr 37 on these pretty easily. The off-road models had mikuni flat slide. The throttle needles would break. The fix was to put an o ring on top of the clip and screw the assembly back on to stop vibration. Great engine super reliable. Watch out for stator and pulse coil fails
I think the street version has auto de-comp even though it has a de-comp lever. This makes checking compression nearly impossible. Not sure if its all years though. Mines a 97 and this is the case.

I have a 2011 DR650se I love the bike. I got a set of supermoto wheels and tires and dirt wheels and tires. It’s a heavy bike but that’s ok. It definitely checks all the boxes for me and what I want in a bike.
It may have been marketed as street legal but that thing is definitely not street legal 😂😂
You will need to change the sprocket because it’s geared to high for the trails you will burn up the clutch I put in Procycle Kevlar clutch plates
Had to 400s and a 250 dr..the 250 was gutless,but the 400s,were AWESOME
I had a 1998 DR350 it was a great bike one of my favorite of many over the years.
Love waking up 2 another 2Vintage Video!
The dr350 and 250 are a pain in the ass to start. My son has owned a 350 for like 5 years and has it down to a one or two kicks. But trust me without knowing the steps you'll be kicking for a while and why they had no electric start???
dog was just admiring the pot leaf on the fender
What a steal. I have a 1990 Suzuki DR250S, and I absolutely love it. Loved the video. Can’t wait to see the rebuild!
Find a kickstand for the poor thing. I hate when people take them off! It's not an mx bike. It's very inconvenient having to always find something to lean the bike on or having to stop wherever you left your triangle stand.
if you look close the kickstand is there... its just bent up.
This bike has a dry sump oil system. You need to run the bike to allow oil to be pumped into the frame before checking oil level.
Wow, a clogged pilot jet on a Dr... omg!. Normal to see that, they love to plug up.
Great video as always, can you fit a mic in your helmet as i cant hear what your saying while riding!! All the best.
There are cool oil temp gauges for these that fit on the top of the frame were you checked the oil level
i learned a lot about bikes from your videos
At 44 minutes in I'm thinking the constant velocity carburetor is the variable.
Yep, brings back some good memories. Definitely the good ole days!! Awesome find. Still can't believe all the compression 170 crazy. Cant wait to see you restore it..
😊 The decompression valve this is just for the compression it's for cold starting the engine
Suzukis version of the Xl and the Xr engine alot of similarities if you ask me. Cool video
Awsome job every bike needs a chance witch you give them thanks for a great video
i actually own a 1999 dr 350 dirt model converted to street legal. its my first ever bike! i also picked up a 2023 grom, but i love the DR for its power and 6 speed. my cam chain is also noisy at the moment as well. definitely will be looking forward to you tearing into the engine on this thing so i can follow along and work on mine!
ive also heard that these bikes are notoriously hard to start, but i thought i'd add that i can kick mine over after 1-2 kicks completly cold and she starts right up. no need for the decompression as well which may indicate my engine is tired lol, but it still starts right up!
The first model of the DR350, and the first time that you ever worked on a DR350. Pretty cool.
Awesome Joe, the 3fiddy banging flames 🔥 😂 another great watch 👍
Nice bike, good find. Great Video, a little Vinny, a little tinkering, and some joy riding. Nice nobby tires, ice racing? Engine out, REBUILD, REBUILD
i have had a couple of these. an "S" kick only model and an "SE" e start model. great bikes with a cult like following. with correct carb that is jetted properly they not to hard to start once you have the routine down pat. but....... the e start model much easier. lol.. great do it all bikes that bout as reliable and hard to kill as a klr. and.... always run it for a minute or so before checking oil as it will leak past check valve into engine if it sits a few days.
You need to learn to use starter fluid as a diagnostic tool. It can tell you where you problem is fast
Definitely want to watch rebuild I have 1990 dr350 with whitebrothers 441 kit and want to see rebuild
Do a top end and new valves, maybe a cam too.
I used to own two 1992 Suzuki DR 350. Those things were awesome but power wasn’t all their.
Smoke on acceleration is rings, but deceleration and start up is valve seals
worn valves seals will give ya smoke on startup after dripping onto valves
Hey Bud can you please start showing how you load the bikes alone? I see you unload them but would love to see you load them👍🏾
03:29 Vinnie speaks!
Hiya Joel 350 bulletproof engine yours been abused they make great power you can put better cams in them even sweeter your carb don’t look like the one it should have also parts super cheap 👍👍👍
You should make shirts that say, “We are oat” with a picture of oats
I’d buy it 😁
The issue is all the holes someone drilled into the airbox, on both sides. They then put the little hole filters into the holes. So drawing too much air. To balance out, they put three washers to lift the needle. If you get a new airbox you can remove the washers.
No title, forget taking it on the street. I’d steer clear of bikes with no title!
Had a 92, DR 250, great bike but had its normal Suzuki demons.
Weld a washer to the end of the cam chain tensioner and it will tighten the chain up until you get a new chain
A dirt bike with knobbly tires, no headlight, no taillight, no turn signals.. You think that's street legal? Let's see what happens when you pass a cop while riding that on a highway. That bike is Absolutly, positively, NOT street legal!
DR350 is such an OP bike with the 6 speed.
Not enough fuel. Try covering most the intske with ur hsnd bet it will rev up
LOL@ people saying "it used to run." It was sold new, of course it used to run. Everything used to run.
🤔I'm 50+ and I used to run smoothly, now need a total overhaul
Glad not titled because most expensive things on the bike are speedo/tack and the headlight assembly
Ps I have a extra hyabusa 1300 muffler Procycle has a ton of parts for that bike
May add a manual adjust tensioner, I had to on mine.
