James Holland aged 17 hanged in Bolton, Lancashire in 1786 for croft breaking ( stealing cloth whilst it eas pegged out in fields to bleach). Cried for his mam on the scaffold.
4 men hanged at Westhoughton , near Bolton, in 1812 for luddite riots that resulted in arson at a mill, government agitators in the crowd wearing certain clothing so the militia could identify them. Harsh times.
    Great vid

Sounds like Jeremiah tried to combine a pub crawl with a rebellion. Not sure that is a winning combination.

So either history often ignored or nothing has been repeated.

It is interesting how the term "Luddite" has come to mean a person opposed to or unable to cope with technology in general. The reality is that they were opposed to their skilled labor being replacement by technology. There are interesting parallels to the current era where computers and "robots" are replacing skilled and unskilled labor. (think of "self check-out" kiosks: Each one represents a lost worker or more!

      GREG TAYLOR
THE LUDDITES REPRESENTS THE CLASS OF PEOPLE, WHO MAY BE SKILLED DOING ONE THING REPEATEDLY BUT ARE UNABLE TO TO IMPROVE QUALITY OR QUANTITY OF SAID OBJECT!
THE PERSON WHO WHILE DOING HIS TASKS THINKS OF BETTER METHODS OR MACHINERY TO IMPROVE HIS LOT, WILL DO SO
AND DEVELOP THE NEW METHOD TO BE USED!
      THE TRUE LUDDITE IS SOMEONE
TOO STUPID OR TOO LAZY TO UPGRADE HIS SKILLS AND CRAFT!

@@rossbryan6102 And thus persons who are employed in positions where there is limited chance to develop or implement improvements are frequently pawns in larger political strife and technological "progress". As a domestic US example. does anyone really think that the financial stability provided by coal mining is ever going to return? How about the Auto assembly lines? Steel production?,

I’m a direct descendant of Jeremiah Brandreth. He was my 4th great grandfather. His son Timothy emigrated to the United States in 1850. As far as I know, I think all his descendants are now here in the U.S.

In the UK pit sawyers, men that sawed boards out of tree trunks by hand, fought the coming mechanical saw mills often setting them on fire
In America because of more employment opportunities you really never saw this

One common misconception about the Industrial Revolution is that quality of life went down for the working classes. While conditions were terrible compared to today's, people saw their quality of life improve over the course of the era. The middle class as we know it today is largely a product of the 19th century industrial age.

Hmm, not that a common a name 'Brandreth'. I wonder if Gyles Brandreth is related to him in any way? Edit : Apparently so! "Gyles Brandreth's forebears include George R Sims (the highest-paid journalist of his day, who wrote the ballad Christmas Day in the Workhouse) and Jeremiah Brandreth (the last man in England to be beheaded for treason)."

Right now there are 5 mile queues to see a dead monarch.. nothing will change soon.

I've come to the conclusion after watching several of these kind of videos that the people doing and watching these executions were more F'ing evil and pathological than the individuals they were executing.
