Awesome build!!! As you drive up past Hayden-Winkelman give a wave to my old hometown. My family loved to vacation in the White Mtns. Lots of great memories of barefoot times in Greer as a kid. Enjoy the fruits of your labor!
Michael Roberson haha...awesome! Always love looking at that smelter stack....and thinking about the engineering that went into it. Super impressive! I will wave😀👍
When it was topped off in July 1973, my dad and I got to ride up to the top with one of the engineers. It was built to sustain 100+ mph winds and the top would swing through a 40’ arc. If you jumped off the top you would hit the sides twice before you hit the ground. At the top the concrete is 4’ thick and at the base 40’ thick. I used to remember how deep the foundation but can’t recall now. When we were up on top it was a cold breeze blowing. 1,000 feet is something else to see!
I like the way you make the bracket for your new Sunflower Solar system. I noticed on van builds they mostly have more than one bracket which I would probably add to the front of your solar system. But I definitely am not an expert at anything but baking bread!
MAE HAY thank you Mae! It has travelled 300 miles so far today and I’m about to go out of cell reception....wanted to get back to you before we are deep in the forest😀👍🙏
Been following this project since the beginning. Hard to believe that it used to be stock metal and some random axels you came across. Enjoy the camping, Joe!
Luke Porter Thanks Luke! Yes it has come a long way.....my wife said I ought to show some clips of my hair before the build and now to show the increase in gray and the decrease in actual hair😂
Such humbleness, clarity in explanation, first time right job and best everything you touch bring on the smile. Realistic, inspiring and job well done. I saw once and subscribed without delay. You bring smiles.Respect and lols
One of the best videos about solar panels instalation and wiring. Thank you very much. I have a 30 years old caravan in restauration process and your knowledge is gold. Very impresive work. Love your videos. Thank you very much for share all those ideas. Best regards from spain (the country where you can´t do nothing without a very expensive homologation)
You never ceases to amaze with your skill level. Thank you so much for your willingness to share with all of us in UA-cam land. Enjoy your trip and hope all goes as well as you enjoy your family time. God bless!
Having those panels on the roof of your trailer also help keep it cool. It’s as if you’re parking under a tree. That is a benefit of having solar panels on as much of your roof as possible. That trailer project came out great. You should be proud.
Very clean good looking install, but without cooling airflow under those flat panels they will have a relatively short life. Cooling airflow under panels is critical and they will get very hot mounted directly to the roof. Even small wooden dowels run under each panel will allow some airflow.
I have to say, this has been one of my favorite series on youtube (ever). I hope that trailer lasts you for decades to come! You've certainly earned it!
Cool panels! Love the idea of laying out your diagram on the floor. Don't get hung up using those 2 to 1 connectors in that configuration, you can decrease the bends in the wires.Glad your posting vids again!
As always Joe, excellent work. The opening scene makes me think of how far you have come since loading up reclaimed pallet wood into the boot (trunk) of your Jetta 👍🏻👊🏻💥 Enjoy the trip.
MamboTek thank you Wayne! Haha....yes! I once got almost 30 -2x3’s fit in there😂 Btw....I’ve taken the trailer 300 miles today and we are about to head into tht National Forest for the first camping trip! Super excited!!! Glad I was able to get to this before we leave phone service😀👍
A paint roller is a good choice to press the panels to the roof. The soft "fuzz" protects the surface and prevents cracking, it can happen. Just be careful.
Coming up to the mountain, eh? I'll have to keep an eye out for your trailer. Great trailer build, reminds me of the one my Dad built long ago that eventually took us kids. . . to the White Mountains of Arizona. Many many years later, I ended up moving here. It had a slide out kitchen. Looking forward to seeing that part of your build.
teddyearp it will likely be parked at the showlow sportsman’s or Walmart in about two days while we get last minute supplies before driving into the National Forest....so if you see me say hi😀👋
Calimesacox haha....I can only imagine. My neighbor said the same thing. He said that every trip I go on I’ll find something that I want to add or change or modify on the trailer😂
I very much appreciate the choice you made of those particular solar panels. My new 2015 Ford 350 econoline which I desire to convert has a plexiglass roof to keep it from leaking, so I have not been anxious to start drilling holes. Thanks so much for your resourcefulness and careful instruction

Valley-Buzz Saw thank you!!! Glad you’ve been liking this series....turned out way bigger and longer than I expected haha....but I guess that’s the case with all these type projects😂 😀👍🙏
Still loving the awesome build, great job on the trailer as always and video quality is equally top notch. Looking forward to the greenhouse and rainwater harvest videos ! Thanks so much for taking the time and all the work that goes into sharing !
Not Here thank you so much! As much fun as this project has been I am looking forward to getting back to some of the other video topics for a while before doing more builds on this trailer...except the first trip may be he next video....then I’ll get to the other stuff😉
Those are some really nice panels...I will most definitely be looking into those! The trailer build series of great...can't wait until the after-use report :)
Camping trip Yahhhhooooo!!!. Sir, I couldn’t get home fast enough, when my iPhone notified me this had been posted, while at the grocery store. Wife also wouldn’t allow me to watch during dinner. Really enjoyed the customization to protect the wires from the solar cells. Does the adhesive tape really secure the panels to the roof. I would worry that the tape would eventually degrade. Can’t wait for your video on the performance of the entire trailer. Happy Trails 🐎🐎 🤠 🤠.
Wow, a great job Joe! They make small led volt and ammeters that you could connect at the charge controller on the panel n battery side. I can send you a few if you want. If you place them in a small project box with a momentary switch you can check the performance at a glance. I ment to tell you this earlier after the batt install vid. Anyway, I'm impressed!!! I'm jealous even. Peace brother!
Bull Dozer thank you BD! I actually have a little battery ‘fuel gauge’ that I meant to install... but kinda ran outta time as I wanted to get the video out before I left for the camping trip. You can be assured that it will be going on soon though😀👍
Harley McCorcle Awww thanks guys! I appreciate that a ton! I’ve certainly made my fair share of terrible videos so I just try to get better with each one😀👍🙏
Awesome Joe! And Looks like you have a new toy "drone" I love the Arial video, I have a Mavic 2 Zoom and absolutely love it. Those panels are really cool and love that they are flexable. Thanks for sharing and as always keep building👍
Building with Todd thanks Todd! Actually it’s an older one that I’ve had for about 3 years. I just talk myself out of it most of the time....but I think I rekindled the fun. Gonna take it on the camping trip...and get some more daylight shots as that dim light in this intro wasn’t the best😀👍
Great job on your travel trailer. Makes me want to build one out of my 12' utility trailer. I would suggest making a bracket for that wire channel that runs front to back just like the one you did for the channel that runs side-to-side. You will be experiencing a lot of wind as you are driving down the highway and that can become a very dangerous projectile at high speeds. Worth the extra effort to ensure safety!
This has been a great series to follow. I had made a suggestion regarding the fold-up table that you liked so I feel like I helped in some tiny way. Look forward to see how the camping trip went!
Dang, those guys saved you over $1500 , I can't believe they are so high, I guess partly because they are flexible and partly because of the built in protection on one damaged cell won't effect the rest which is all really great but not worth that much to me, thanks for sharing that with us, it is really neat..
L. J. Bush thanks LJ! I think they are priced where they are for the reasons you mentioned as well as the fact that they are primarily geared towards supplying OEMs and manufacturers. So they are really focused on getting consumer level price points since that isn’t their main business. But they really are nice😀👍
Big Sky at Night thank you! We will! If you see me at the show low sportsman’s or Walmart.....say hi....usually stop at one of those places before we go into the forest. Then go into western drug in springerville sometime in the middle of the trip😀
Sam Hagins thank you Sam! Yes they are not cheap panels. Sunflare primarily is OEM manufacturer supplying based so they aren’t as geared towards consumer price points. They liked the project and wanted to see if I wanted to try them out as an example of how they can be used. I would imagine if they start transitioning to more consumer sales you’d see prices reflect accordingly😀👍
Your work quality is awesome. You’ve definitely inspired me to take more time and just do things right the first time on my home projects. I tend to rush to get my own stuff done after looking after all the details on my customers jobs. Thanks for that. Just a quick note about solar. It’s really helpful to use a battery monitor. I really like the Trimetric from Bogart engineering. I’m not sure how well it’d work with your controller, but there are certainly other good ones out there. Without one it’s like not having a fuel gauge in your vehicle. You’re just kind of guessing all the time. We run a 28’ trailer that has a constant 1A draw because of the fridge and a few other things, that I can’t eliminate, and a 200W system with 2x6V batteries. It’s about 210 amp hours and we’re laughing. It’s plenty of output and I live in British Columbia so that’s a lot less sun than you! Anyways, thanks again for the great videos. Cheers
Hello super videos you make :-) Time stamp 10:26 The adhesive you use to keep the aluminum box fixed to the roof will not last over time. Sun and rain and the wind will tear it loose. And it would be a shame if it hit a windshield on another car behind you. Hope you get some good camping trips in your RV.
Carsten Dencker Carsten Dencker I understand the concern...and it is something that I’ve looked into. This tape is a permant acrylic bonding tape. 3M VHB CV62f. Same type of stuff that holds in sky scraper window panes. Also, it is the same stuff I used to attach the aluminum to the metal frame(part 2 of the series). So there is quite a bit on this trailer. Can it fail over time? Absolutely. But I am cautious when I travel with any sort of trailer. So along with checking the tires before trips I also check door handles, windows and also attachments...window guard, aluminum trim, this channel, etc,. So if it ever becomes loose I will repair it. Would it be better to have screws...yes... and in most cases I do have them as well. But that area didn’t have any backing for the acres to mount to. Anyways, I totally understand the concern but I just wanted you to know that I do come wider safety a great dealon these things. Thanks for watching 😀👍🙏
Lucas Wood & Art thank you Lucas! I’m planning on getting some more drone stuff on our camping trip....had it for 3 years and have always been sacred to use it if there was any wind....but it just makes such fun shots😉👍
NimblyBimbly bummed? No no no😂 I’m just tired....My day job as a firefighter keeps me up on many of my 24hr shifts and I do these projects on the side in my spare time....I’m actually super excited to have this done.....definitely not bummed out😀👍
I hope that the double-sided tape used to mount that aluminium cable channel never loosens because I wouldn't want to see that cable channel flying in my windshield!
Cool camper! The dometic cooler is a nice touch. What would be a big draw would be a roof mounted Air Conditioner / Heat unit or electric cooking like a Microwave or electric (resistive style) cook top. I'd be curious if an induction cook top would work well for you with this setup.
I'm glad this hailstorm didn't happen AFTER you installed those panels... Nice build!
the Dude haha...trust me....I’ve been thinking about that. I’m likely going to build a carport to be able to store the trailer for just that reason😉👍

I am looking forward to a monsoon video. I enjoy seeing the action.
David B when we get back from our trip the monsoons should be hear🤞
‘Here’
I am so jealous. Your craftsmanship and attention to detail is phenomenal. I do not have that.
Mike Tavener Media thank you mike! Those are very kind words! But I know you would be able to do a great job as well😀👍
A generous donation of those two solar panels and good for them as a quality demonstration promotion of the use of their product. Win win for both.
I like the way you make the bracket for your new Sunflower Solar system. I noticed on van builds they mostly have more than one bracket which I would probably add to the front of your solar system. But I definitely am not an expert at anything but baking bread!

That turned out nice as usual. You guys all have a safe delightful trip without any unpleasant events.
L. J. Bush thanks LJ! We are looking forward to it!😀👍
Finally I found someone on UA-cam that did a very thorough explanation on how to hook up a solar panel. One of the best I've seen. Thanks a lot.

Nicely done, keep it out of the hail. 😊
Alan Pinho haha...I sure hope too! I’ve got plans to make a carport to keep this under ....finger crossed we don’t get hail before then🤞😀
Wow! Those panels are SWEET!
Its turning out great Joe! Thanks for sharing!
Logic Bob thank you bob! We are literally embarking on the camping trip now....so the real week long solar test starts now😉👍

Jeez you should watch one of mine lol hey are a train wreck in comparison friend. Anyway keep up the great videos and I got the keyboard warriors!

Another stellar job! Will eagerly await the post-trip recap. However, I predict a report detailing a complete success!
Very tidy design throughout the project. Well done.
The One After 909 thank you!!! 😀🙏

Jason Andrade thank you Jason! I appreciate it all the more coming from a guy such as yourself! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
That is super cool, Joe. Looking forward to the camping video. Enjoy making those memories.
Awesome Joe, Many happy family trips in something you built from scratch !! Well done !
the black plastic conduit is called split loom. awesome trailer you did a really really good job on it. congrats
Very nice planning and install of the solar. Btw, I enjoyed hunting near the white mountains as a kid, have fun in your new rig!
Solar panels for $750 a piece. $4.17 a Watt. What a deal!!
I love it! The camping trips are going to be even more enjoyable.
Blackberry Hideout I sure hope so!!!
I very much appreciate the choice you made of those particular solar panels. My new 2015 Ford 350 econoline which I desire to convert has a plexiglass roof to keep it from leaking, so I have not been anxious to start drilling holes. Thanks so much for your resourcefulness and careful instruction
Amazing workmanship. We are looking ourselves to built a small travel trailer and this is definitely a guide and inspiration. Thank you.
Love you channel your videos are awesome your a very smart man keep up the great work! God Bless you and your family 🙏!
Great series! I am amazed at your level of skills! It's like you can do anything! AMAZING!!!

We've been following along your whole journey and can't wait to see the trailer on its first trip out. Love this idea for solar. So low profile.

I'm impressed with that solar panel.

Nicely done!!

uKNOWuLIKE that thank you! It sure has been a while in the making....more than I thought or expected. But so glad to be at this point now!
Excellent! I'll be interested to see how the flexible panels perform over time. Cheers!
Brent Zupp me too Brent! Only time will tell but I’m happy with them so far👍😀
Great job on the camper, if you ever find the cooler getting to warm just add a small fan to the compartment to circulate the air around it.
Looking so good!!!! :) Stay safe and enjoy the fruits of your labor!

Clean install Joe. Nice work. Planning solar on my trailer too so it helps to see another setup in action.
Those are some really nice panels...I will most definitely be looking into those!

Awesome stuff man, loved the opening drone shots
Lucas Wood & Art thank you Lucas! I’m planning on getting some more drone stuff on our camping trip....had it for 3 years and have always been sacred to use it if there was any wind....but it just makes such fun shots😉👍
GREAT JOB.
ROGER CAOUETTE thank you roger!
super clean install, thanks for all the tips from the build. I've kept some in mind for my build.
Keep up the good work. :)
You seem pretty bummed out. Cheer up! That's a great looking trailer!
Nah, he's just super laid back :-) ...that's my impression anyway.
NimblyBimbly bummed? No no no😂 I’m just tired....My day job as a firefighter keeps me up on many of my 24hr shifts and I do these projects on the side in my spare time....I’m actually super excited to have this done.....definitely not bummed out😀👍
Not Here yep😀👍
Great build....great 'bug-out" scenario for weeks or even months. Never know.
I hope that the double-sided tape used to mount that aluminium cable channel never loosens because I wouldn't want to see that cable channel flying in my windshield!
Spot on, once again well explained and demonstrated. Keep the videos coming
Hey Joe how are you doing
I really appreciate all this video
This is awesome. Great work.
Cool camper! The dometic cooler is a nice touch. What would be a big draw would be a roof mounted Air Conditioner / Heat unit or electric cooking like a Microwave or electric (resistive style) cook top. I'd be curious if an induction cook top would work well for you with this setup.
I’ve got a lot to learn from you.. 👍 🤝 nice to meet you.
