@@nolanwolfe maybe it means that to someone who thinks his 'reborn christian period' was a 'passing phase'. But to someone who sees that he underwent a real enlightenment in his soul, what happened is that his life since as a poet and musician, as a creative artist, has been used to serve his soul enlightenment. Just because he stopped making records in the musical style of his so called 'christian trilogy' of the late seventies with the preachy lyrics, doesn't mean that he abandoned his rebirth. The only way to understand his art since then is in the light of that rebirth and where it has led his creativity. Something which the music journalists, biographers and many of the fans fail to see...

I find that Dylan often talks about becoming a new person, being born again in the sense of reinventing one's self:

Well Neil Young talked about Bob and his muse and Bob has various Muses so the mood and music changes depending on that too. The muse gets underrated but is very important to a poet or songwriter they are like a higher being that influences the artist. Some attract muses more than others it's a talent in itself.

Ya, he probably changed popular music more than anyone. Extended songs from 2-3 minutes format. First to address politics. Ignored the traditional
'love song'. First to abandon rhyming lyrics etc; BUT you also have to give credit to Columbia Records and John Hammond for having faith in him and giving him the freedom to do what he wanted. That took a lot of nerve in the cut-throat record business as well

I love how he says "I don't remember a thing about Rolling Thunder" he is so humble. His fans expect to see some piece of thrill or excitement within himself that they see. He doesn't see it, it comes so natural to him it rolls out of him. He has written a complete song in 25 minutes and he will say it's magic he has no idea how he does it it-he just does.

The line about it being "something that happened forty years ago" is so important. We spend so much time mythologising the careers of artists, and the iconic albums and projects they put out, that quite often forget they're people, and in Bob's case, 80-year-old people. My grandad isn't 80 yet (73) and he can't properly remember things from when he was 60, let alone when he was 40. Add in that Bob's travelled the world at least a dozen times, played thousands of shows, recorded more than 2 dozen albums, and also raised (at least) 5 children, and it becomes increasingly silly to ask him about something he did when his oldest (now in his 50s) was an infant 🤷😂😂

Filling an emotional space doesn’t mean you need to understand it .
That’s the beauty of music it grabs you and let’s you fill in the blanks.
Everyone’s words have different meanings to different people why should he have to justify everything he writes just enjoy it .

I saw the RTR way back when in Toronto. Gordon Lightfoot played flawlessly. Joni Mitchell was too high to play. Bob was just as you saw him. They were all just so admirable. There is an obvious reason why he doesn't remember. The same reason that I can't fill in more details.

Bob's beyond meaningless questions from the past he's on a journey deeper than an interview can reveal it is clear as we've always known he's not a big fan of interviews and it's clear that he probably shouldn't do them as he sings in one of his new songs' I contain multitudes' "iam first among equals and second-to-none"

I took a bus down from Toronto to catch the Revue in Niagara Falls New York. It was spectacular. He played some otherworldly harmonica solos that I'd never heard before and have never heard since. It was my first visit to the US, and I was amazed to see an armed guard in a liquor store. Suffice to say I was happy to jump on the bus after and get my skinny Canadian ass back home. The difference between the sister cities was staggering.

I have seen this clip nearly hundred times now I guess.Think it's so great, feeling like if it's a bit of the real man there. And what abt this Rolling Thunder Revue, sure he rememberes, perhaps that's a bit too private though. Someone thought it was a stupid idea, this Thunder Revue, think that depends on how one looks at the past. I, for my self, only remember good times, how to be young, full of hopes, and trying to embrace life -as it is. Hope that Dylan remember his past with pride and joy, not many has managed to make others to feel so much Love as he with his music and lyrics.❤️

Man, that was a good show. The best. Dylan more alive than ever and than anyone else. Sometimes you see someone great or someone beautiful; or someone horrible in the greatest, most beautiful or most horrible moment in their lives. This was Dylan at his peak. My face, in awe, was front row center the night that Allen Ginsburg observed, "The audience has a face."
