Masterpiece from their masterpiece of masterpiece albums....still fresh, 46 years later
Sorry, the band has publicly stated it is NOT a concept album---call it " the accidental concept album", which, IMHO, makes it even cooler/better

John Helliwell - the multi-instrumentalist sax player - tells of going back to school in England after 1987 to really learn how to play the saxophone. Many of the students attending were inspired to play the saxophone because of his playing in Supertramp.
Supertramp is genius stacked upon genius hidden in plain sight. Roger kind of blew up this Synergy of the group.

Maybe Supertramps best album. Such haunting song, you can lose yourself in it. I love the strings and sax.

Purchased this album in 7th grade (1977) and played the hell out of it. Parents never complained about it haha .

Bought this album when it came out in the UK - was blown away with the production especially. Easily their best album - still listening to it today at 68 here in sunny Colorado.

They used a technique of doubling the speed of the tape which would etch a superior quality sound on the vinyl. ELO was doing that as well. They sent Pink Floyd back into the studio to redo their "Dark Side."
Rick Davies loved getting aboard the Choo Choo by utilizing a machine that sped up the beat over the length of a song. Lots of whistles and spinner sounds were and are still hidden within that Rick Davies piano solo in the song "School" so subtle that they would make even today's engineers marvel.
Had to have a great stereo to hear them.

Crime is their best album. Sorry guys as per the band it wasn't meant to be a concept album. Only the song Rudy was about Rudy. Besides that this album is pure ear candy. Great review guys.

Genesis's The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" followed a character called 'Rael.' The album is undeniably conceptualized pertaining the first song which was co-created by both Rick and Roger. The deep throated chanting underlying Rick's harmonica on the first song is the same exact deep throated chanting underlying Rick when he rages on the last song. It sounds like the same exact track.
Rick was a master melodic narrator whereas Roger was into harmonizing. Either way, every song written by the group was further developed to the same quality Supertramp finish.

Can music be so “airy”? Feel like floating at times

Over the years I've seen Super Tramp 4 times as a group and Roger 3 times since he started touring again. One of those bands that are on that next level and live always sounds like the songs you've been listening to which not a lot of bands can pull off. I always interpreted this song meaning he's blaming the ones in control but realizes everyone battles with lust, greed, and glory. The ĺast line is like he's surprised " but thats not right, Oh no what's the story, look there's you and there's me." Idk makes sense to me ?

We are all guilty of the crime of destroying the world through rampant consumerism, but we want to blame somebody else for what we're all doing...I heard Roger Hodgson describe it thus once, and it has made perfect sense to me ever since. It's an environmental protest song way ahead of its time.

Rick Davies, the other child prodigy, just has never tooted his own horn. He did let out that he once found a job playing the organ and had to fake it.

Never been a supertramp fan. But my sister was it. This i like though. Almost symphonyish and floating

To me the crime of the century is about pointing fingers, while we ourselves take part in the crime. And this can be projected on big or small issues and everything in between. For instance take the subject of bullying. We all condemn the perpetrators who are disguised, but in fact we are all guilty in one way or another. Nobody is innocent.

The ultimate crime of the Century was committed by a Roman army crucifying Christ.

You aren't really onto anything. Just remember that the best way to write lyrics is on many levels. The tragic love stories surrounding Rudolph Valintino. Half way down the line refers to both half way getting there and half way letting down the rope to help him along.
    That kind of thing.

sounds like a broadway show...not one of their good tunes
