Each to their own but i find that i only need to file the top ,i find that doing the sides more often than not does more harm than good

Yeah, it can sometimes depend on the hook and how sharp it is straight from the packet. I often just use a Jag polishing stone on the sides of the hook as all I'm really trying to do is make very fine adjustments to make the point as sharp as it can be.

Carp, ha what a joke! Not bagging’ ya but you’ve got to come fish Australia, chose from a bunch of Estuary species like Flathead, Bream, Trevally, Whiting. Out on the Beaches and rocks, for Tailor, Salmon, Bream, Jewfish, Snapper, even Kingfish and possible Tuna like Longies. That’s just a grab bag of land based options. I know I’m not anywhere near yr level. I’ve been fishing with blunt hooks, and dropping a few, but got a good Flattie Sunday just been, to 52cm. Been catching Tailor off breakwalls, good legal fish. The landscapes man, the Dreamtime in these places, of 20 Km beaches, and the scale, awesome. Do yourself a favour man and come out here. I know you would kill it as yr skill level very high. 😮

Put your hand behind the vice to get in focus, same as what I do. Have you ever used rigitt hooks?
