I took a double axel box trailer to Georgia. I live in Jacksonville, Fl. Right after the scales in Georgia i got pulled over. The DOT man ask me for my papers and I had everything in a clear pouch. He then asked me what I was carrying in the trailer. I told him, Sailboat Fuel. He then walked back to his truck and grabbed his ticket book. He told me that i was going to get a large ticket, because I did not have those warning signs on the trailer, I told him that I did not need them. He just kept running his mouth and finally asked me to open my back door slowly. I guess he was kinda scared that Sailboat Fuel would jump out and bite him. Once the door was down he looked into the trailer and saw my fuel. Yes, I got him. Hook, Line and Sinker. The trailer was filled with Air. Sailboat Fuel. He was kinda upset that he could not finish writting his ticket. But I got that DOT Inspector. I closed my door and locked it up and drove away. A empty trailer with a lock on it. Air = Sailboat fuel. Now I say that to all Inspectors. State Police, City Police, Small Town Police and DOT Inspectors. Some get mad and some laugh about it. Life sucks sometimes
Watching you using two trucks to get up the hill reminded me of coming back from my Reserve weekend driving from China Lake CA to Hawthorne NV one winter night about 2200. I was surprised when I turned off Highway 395 onto Highway 6, a few miles North of Bishop the road was not to well plowed. I was driving my 1985 GMC K3500 diesel. For safety I pulled the transfer case into 4 wheel high and eased off to about 40-45 mph. Shortly after crossing into Nevada on Highway 6 I crested the small hill before the start of the climb up Montgomery Pass. I could see four way flashers down in the valley really close to the start of the climb, which was the only other vehicle I had seen since Bishop. By now the snow had been packed down into a sheet of ice. As I approached the flashers I discovered an empty two trailer single drive hay hauler. I pulled around and stopped and talked to him. He said he broke traction and could not get it moving again. I told him I had a strap and I would be willing to see if I could get him going, but if we did we could not stop till the hotel/casino at the top. He agreed and thanked me for stopping to help. I hooked my strap to his front tow hook and my hitch. We got moving and went all the way to the top in first gear, I was too scared if I tried to shift I would loose traction. Just after the big left hand curve close to the top, two semi trucks were creeping down the hill slower than we were coming up. As the passed one of the truckers came on the CB and said something to the effect of, "that is the first time I ever seen a little truck pulling a big truck up a hill". The driver I was pulling came on and told them he was empty, a single screw and broke traction on the bottom of the hill. We got to the top and I pulled him deep into the lot with the other trucks who did not want to try going down the hill. He was really thankful I stopped to help him.
I agree on the full tank of fuel. It is rare for me to get below half. A full tank of fuel is cool and easier to pump. A low tank is hot fuel and hard on the in tank fuel pump.

Me and my dad drove all the way from the driveway of the place we are staying in Reston, VA, to the driveway of the place we were going in Orlando, without ever coming to a complete stop. We stopped intentionally 2 times to get fuel and go to the bathroom, but besides that, we never stopped. When we hit highway traffic and when we were off the highway in town, we never stopped.
One of those DOT cops in those Ford trucks got me a few months ago heading back home to Nevada with the gooseneck empty from Susanville. I haul machines long distance for farmers and ranchers. I use a RAM 3500 with a Diamond C 44' goose-neck, Hutch suspension and electric over hydraulic disc brakes. When hauling over passes I sometimes have to stop on a grade to install chains or to check the load. I want to have a dash mounted switch that I can switch on and apply the brakes on the trailer. This would have a red light when activated. I've been stuck on a icy back road before when I lost traction and the whole mess truck and trailer were sliding backwards toward the edge with a nice 100 foot drop to the river. How in the World can you be rated at 45k when specs for the truck state 34.8? Oh The STATE says you can't tow more than 45 k!! I think I get it. Wouldn't a 33 k tractor (Volvo) due a better job? Used for about the same cost as a new 5500. HDRV says when they went to a semi, it was so much easier. Those 40+ 5th wheels weigh over 20 k.
When someone gets so close to me that I can't see their bumper any more, I just ease up off the throttle a little (slowly enough that if they're paying attention, they can back off before hitting me) so that instead of 5 Mph over the limit, I'm now comfortably cruising at 7-10 Mph below the limit on the highway... If they back off to a reasonably safe distance, I ease back up to Limit+5...if they get too close again, I ease back down to Limit-10... It doesn't usually take more than 2 or 3 slow downs before they figure out I on;y slow down when they get too close... I think your dad has earned a cordless grease gun, pretty sure at the end he was greasing the mulcher with the old trusty Manuel machine.... Come on man, take care of the boss. 🙂
You have to do A LOT of greasing to warrant purchasing an electric grease gun. They're worthless unless you're greasing a fleet of tractors every morning. Even then, most of the daily grease points only require a couple pumps of grease. So you may save a few seconds per machine. Even the 20-100 hour grease points only need a few pumps of grease. The vast majority of time is spent cleaning the zerk fitting, pushing the nozzle on, taking the nozzle off, and wiping up spent grease that pushes out. A battery powered grease gun isn't going to save you much time for the few seconds of actual grease pumping. Most electronic grease guns are sold to people that just want to have a gadget.
Breaking stuff is never fun. When it's not even yours and you have to pay hurts more. Roll with it is all you can do. At least commenting to help the algorithm kick you a few extra cents.
19:31 This machine has more weight forward of the trailer axles than the first one did, putting more weight on the drives... More weight = more traction... More traction = less spinning of tires... 😄😁😆😅😂🤣

Would you consider a chevy 6500 4x4 . Just wondering
@@MrGoldMember ya, I was thinking more about the brakes and frame of the 6500. I do see your point on powertrain. Dam emissions. He auto convert the old 5500 in to a overland style (single wheels and 42” tires) and used it as his main project grabber. I’d like to see his take on it.
@@MrGoldMember If you go class 7...might as well go class 8...not really much more money or size

There's a neon liiiiiiiight at the end of the tunel..
I LOVE your Bark-Seat Drivers...
😄😁😆😅😂🤣
I think they added more acreage.. just a guess
They don’t like owner operators, and are going after smaller businesses in the Midwest. Keep on trucking 👍
Fuck the DOT
What length gooseneck is that?

Why get a 5500 surely there is a small semi with a 10 speed or somthing

Tires on the trailer looked pretty low
105 psi in all of them
Probably just the way they are sitting on the edge of the road. I don't doubt your professionalism 🙂
A lot of weight on the ol girl lol
What clutch are you using?
At :51 if you forget about the gooseneck part and with the right mindset, the trailer looks like its not connected but still magically moving.
I can't wait to get ours!...so mucho nice..
Reminds me of the phrase I'm always told...it worked before u broke it lol
Has any of y’all have a second GEN dodge and have the dash break out because of letting the the parking slam back and hit the stop under the dash? Makes me cringe every time he releases his parking brake and let hit the stop so hard. I rest my foot on the parking brake pedal before I release it.
Good vid you’re the man
Chains dragging or not crossed over or a detached cable for emergency brakes not on the truck it self and on the hitch will get you fingered.
I might be the only person who actually lifts the safety chains to keep them out of the way. (Not required)
Break away cable is hooked to something else not the hitch and you don’t cross your chains on a gooseneck. Lol
Well done Sam.
Good job Amigo keep it up I like your videos plus you have a exelente attitude and very humble thats why I subscribe to your channel I really enjoy watching and learning from you...thank very much you are AMAZING PLUS AMAZING VIDEOS
Thank you I really appreciate that!
It always white knuckle, then we worry if it’s ok with them
CA needs its revenue.
Yeah so many people are leaving lol
i like the trailer loer profie tires to squeeze to half size
While day of hauling to get nothing done sounds like my life sometimes lol
What’s the gcwr on the ram 2008 ram 5500

Same for me Sam, if it can happen it'll happen to me!
I think your dad has earned a cordless grease gun, pretty sure at the end he was greasing the mulcher with the old trusty Manuel machine.... Come on man, take care of the boss. 🙂
He knows I have one in my truck. He won’t use it.
Haha, my dad refuses to use mine...claims he doesn't want to.blow any seals... Old school. Keep up the good work, loving the content
Hell Yeah Brotha Ol Hass.
Breaking stuff is never fun. When it's not even yours and you have to pay hurts more. Roll with it is all you can do. At least commenting to help the algorithm kick you a few extra cents.
You got my hopes up to see some action... But what a disappointment dude.. I'm tierd of clickbait subtitles
😂😂
19:31 This machine has more weight forward of the trailer axles than the first one did, putting more weight on the drives...
More weight = more traction...
More traction = less spinning of tires...
😄😁😆😅😂🤣
tremendous video
Did I miss something or was this just click bait? Because I sure did not see the DOT swarming you. Click bait only happens once.
😂😂
I've got to disagree, when my deck's slippery, I CAN get the job done even quicker!!!😉
Hahaha ehh ohh
Im confused. I didn’t think people like this existed in California? This kinda sucks, now I won’t be able to say I hope California falls off in the ocean without feeling bad.
I live in the same area he operates in. I can say there are many of us up here in northern California.
@@Towing417 Well it sounds to me like your state doesn't represent you guys very well. You should come to Oklahoma, god knows we could use the electoral votes, and you'd fit right in.
