ARR effortless blasting of Punjabi songs is enough to prove what a great genius this man is. Still, the audience keeps asking for where the old ARR is. Old ARR is gone; this is the new ARR 💖
Yes sir, Mr Rahman has been updating his music craft every five years. But still some sleeping in 90's still not wake up. Yes A r Rahman is a genius in rooted music ❤
ARR music is just way beyond legendary.. It's epic.. This year AR Rahman is shining with greats projects like Aadujeevitham, Maidaan, Chamkila.. All are great films..
Bhai es film main khalistan movement or punjab ke 1980 ke halat be hain or esko leker sensor board ke trap main fad sakde the es liye theatre ka risk nhi lea
Baradwaj what an erudite observations(like always). Felt like listening to a Graph Theory podcast. The way you connected disjointed aspects to form a homogenous quilt. I hope Imtiaz gets to see this review
If his reviews duration >4mins movie verdict - nothing much(not many layers/avg writing) >6 mins = Good to Great (movie maybe Good or bad or Good with some bad scenes . Anycase movie has some/many good layers/writing . 8+ mins lot of layers/ good writing Good execution etc. There is lot to talk about movie etc. (now this movie is 12+ mins, good that's what it's meant)
I didn't like the film as much as l'd like to. The narrative structure Imtiaz chose to employ was perfect, however, there were some editing choices which felt very odd for me. And that constant use of animated sequences also took me out of the experience. It was an enjoyable watch but not as immersive as l'd imagined it to be.
Barad, I never saw a review like this before, as a tamilian, I didn't understand much part of the movie, through your review I again saw this movie in my mind, beautiful review, thank you, I wish I would have seen the movie after watching your review, I may next time. SQ.. 0:10
Chamkila is poetic brilliance The way it is told is a masterful Salute to Imtiaz Ali his best work till date Diljit is pitch perfect Music cinematography everything and I mean every performance is fabulous This story told after 35 years is immortal and will remain relevant for years to come Master Story teller is back and how 🥲❤
The only thing where Imtiaz Ali fucked-up with this film is not releasing it in theaters. He would have earned way more than what Netflix paid him, especially from overseas. Punjabis would have gone crazy re-listening to those songs in theaters. This a pretty good biopic. I honestly didn't have high hopes, but Imtiaz surprised me with this one. I wasn't impressed by ARR's soundtrack as much as Baradwaj though.
@@hulkhogan8339 Chamkila is huge among Punjabis even today. It could have earned anywhere close to 100cr from Punjab + Overseas only. They could have anyway sold it to Netflix/Prime later. This is my opinion after watching the film as a Punjabi.
just finished watching the movie.. if a culture and faith cannot save a family- then what's the use of following such a faith/ culture..? a family is destroyed- including a 15 days old baby- in the name of what..! didn't know about chamkila until I watched this movie- and what a movie!! kudos..
Your review itself was so beautiful and took me back to the movie and its small bits. Good job done at your end too & yes the film was a delight and it also is heartwarming and heartbreaking in the same breath. Leaves us wondering who are these gatekeepers of morality. And are they who keep the society free from freethinking? Apart from entertainment the film was a contemplative take on the phenomenon called “morality”.
I don’t like Chamkika’s song but in those days there were no phones no television there was no source of entertainment it was only his songs and it was a public demand . Now there are many types of entertainment.:So I can’t blame Chamilika . He was very passionate about his singing . I think it was Sad whatever happened in the end
A beautiful movie indeed. My only complaint is those jarring and shoddy animations that kept popping up randomly and broke the flow of the story and botched the otherwise consistent visual palette. They were 100% not needed, IMO.
Imtiaz Ali made this movie so realistic, it really haunts you. The most horrifying scenes was right when the dead bodies transported from the crime scene till their house and Chamkila's father's reaction, I actually felt I am witnessing this in real. Chamila's tunes were very melodious and those songs sounded much better than the original
Soundtrack is brilliant but with Score i hv complain...bgm is totally punjabi driven ..but the scene where Chamkila console his first wife ..that scene bgm could be tearful with Female hum or Flute but a strange bgm is played..
Because his first wife also live with him, in the end she comes see them, she lives with chamkila family, and he was not go with his friend tikki to Canada because tikki was loyal more to surinder sindha the other famous singer and ustaad of chamkila, but became rival
BR I love ur reviews, I have rewatched many movies just to get a sense of ur POV... Why have u stopped reviewing malayalam movies?? Why only bollywood movies these days?
finally saw it today.. and it indeed a heartbreakingly beautiful beautiful film. so well made. such fine craftmanship. everything felt just perfect. there are so so many scenes i want to talk about but still thing which disturbed me most as how their listless, still, dead bodies were shown during different parts of narration. as if to remind us this was their fate, and eventually ours too. i am really short of words.. the shocking opening scene to that gorgeous melancholic final song .. what a film.
The movie lacked depth. I expected more complexity, with the first wife and more about the death and the impact he has had on other current punjabi singers. Im tired of the fluff that indian filmakers still make. Whats wrong with going deep. Ive always thought imtiaz ali is the most overated filmaker.
I felt the same it kinda ended a bit shallow however I felt considering the length of the movie it would have caused audience to have differing opinions about his character. This would have affected people sympathizing over him at the end.

Imtiaz 🔥 This movie should have been released in Theatres and save us from Bade Miyan Chote Miyan torture
Bhai es film main khalistan movement or punjab ke 1980 ke halat be hain or esko leker sensor board ke trap main fad sakde the es liye theatre ka risk nhi lea
Even if this movie is released in theatres it wouldn't have reached and the movie wouldn't have performed (take 83 movie as an example)
Yes, it would have been blockbuster 🎉
It wouldn't have performed well , people don't like to watch good movies only mass masala like salaar kgf jawan
Sensor board would have tear apart this movie
This is the epitome of review.
Bharat Ratna for A R Rahman.
