    DAMN that tank is beautiful! LOVE THE BLACK with grey rock. I miss my cichlids...when I had freshwater, that was fun. I LOVE the contrast between dark rock and background with bright fish!

    My exact thought process when I rockscape. Very nice set up. I also use below the substrate grate (got the idea from robOz in Canada). I'm thinking of going with a smoother rock like you have since the lava rock I'm currently using has sharp edges that the fish bump into and get scratched & scrapped.

    • @NYCityCichlids
      @NYCityCichlids  8 років тому

      Hey Ben. Yeah I like lava rock but the smooth rock is safer and looks very natural. 👍

    Great video, I am due to break down my Mbuna set up soon. And install an Aquadecor background A style can't wait. But will keep some of my nicer pieces of rock. Once completed I will upload a video. I am going to change from corral to to Caribsea Cichlid sand.

    0:23 I never do that I just run them down with a net until they are out of energy and start panting in a corner loll, maybe I should do what U do, I can't believe i never thought of that prior to this video. but man does that tank look natural just like lake Malawi itself. Salousi and rest of ur Mubuna should love it in there, they start grazing on the rocks yet or no? Cause its cool to watch hopefully U get a bit of algae on the rocks soon. Awesome video and great job man.

    According to the gurus at cichlid-forum.com, this type of rockscape is NOT appropriate for mbuna cichlids. They say the rocks need to be smaller, but stacked higher, creating lots of little caves, crevices, and niches for the cichlids to hide. Maybe that's why the fish in the video are all swimming at the top of the tank instead of doing their natural behavior of exploring the rocks.
