What a fun weapon class. I love the versatility. Sometimes it’s better to work harder and not smarter and just go bonk people.
ha, that is smarter, too
Who needs to bonk smarter when you can just bonk harder ;)
Super slept on weapons class! Excellent balance of weight, damage, speed and stagger. Great Mace is my baby
@@hobojoe9717 Why unga when you can bunga? Just do both, I say.
4:27 Indeed, 92 stance damage IS a quite *staggering* amount of stance damage.
Especially when you are fighting a dragon and some of those end up being headshots.
Dual Occult Great Stars, my beloved.
Cold infused great stars
Dual wielding bonks other than rusted anchor is kinda meh
@@reiddutchess9955 maybe, but my main character used dragon incantations and was used to farm just about two of everything so I needed that arcane stat
This guy gets it
That was my favorite playthrough. What's better than a bleed build? A bleed build with stance breaking.
Its going to be funny seeing all the random UA-camrs swarm back to Elden Ring in June for DLC 🤣
but Fextra stays 💯
I love my Great Mace. Fastest playthrough I ever had with this beauty and Cragblade. Bonked my way to lordship.
Lions claw ftw
Prince of Pancakeing
Gave it the eruption AOW for my Sauron/frenzy build
Thanks for the video Fextra. I really love pairing a great hammer with a greatshield to guard counter bosses to death and then waking them up with a charged heavy. And I use royal knights resolve as an AoW, since I only land heavy blows rather than R1 chains. This combination with the defense provided by the greatshield is why I choose great hammers over two handing colossal weapons as they are not as good in guarding as a shield. Also I can't see my screen when I use a colossal weapon so that plays a huge part too. Anyway, thanks again! I really enjoy your channel.
I will never stop singing the praises of The Great Stars. Good damage and poise break, decent attack speed, little bit of healing, little bit of bleed, infusible and you can get two in one playthrough so you can powerstance two occult great stars. It's a near perfect weapon imo. Wild strikes or stormcaller aow with Lord of Blood Exultation, Rotten Insignia, shard of alexander and ritual sword and it's perfect.
Great hammers are probably the best out of the 3 big bonk classes (Great axes Great hammers and colossals)
No doubt, with a good weight/damage ratio, and flexibility with incantations and various stats
Yeah I feel like great hammers just outclass great axes (except maybe the Rusted Anchor), and colossal weapons are only good for like jump attack or charged heavy spam.
Axes and colossal weps just have the like... least interesting movesets.
no doubt, great hammers are life. And they were great even in DS3, I finished whole fucking game on easy mode with Vordt´s Great hammer, fucking huge bonk with frostbite and perseverence, what an absolute beast.
@ literally my first ds3 playthrough was with vordt's hammer, super easy, super fun too
Cranial Vessel Hammer literally carried me through my first time fighting Malenia
Thank you!!!
Waited for this for so long😁😁
Great Stars is the 🐐
Can you do a daggers are the best weapon in elden ring? ive always wanted to see your thoughts on daggers, i use them alot and thought it may also attract more players to the playstyle
Oh my God! FINALLY I waited and asked so long for this! Thank you Fextra!
finally another one in this series. thank you so much
Thank you for keeping this series going! All that's left are daggers and fists/claws!
For me, my favorite is between the Greats Stars and Beastclaw Greathammer. I like 'em spiky.
The Devourer’s Scwpter is my personal favorite. The thing carried me through multiple runs and even helped me beat Malenia hitless. Its skill is lacking in damage sure, but I think that’s kinda the point and what makes me appreciate it. It’s meant to prioritize healing your life over beating the life out of everything else around you. And that’s what makes it my favorite.
Thank you for the video!
A great thing about Great stars, is that you can get two of them in one playthrough
Glad that you've gotten to this class. I really want to try a run with these
Excellent guide as always, Fextra. Let's keep up the DLC hype since we're only a couple of months away from it! Would love to see the Fists/Claws guides as well, Star fists carried me smoothly for the last Fantastic Four (Gideon/Godfrey/Rada-Beast). 😂
I’ve been waiting for this video for so long
I will never get sick of watching Elden RIng content, please keep making them!
I can't wait to see a video going through all the DLC weapons. Will probably be a while, but it would be cool to just see them grouped into one since we've already got each category from the base game covered.
Most underrated weapon category and I love it
I didn’t know the spiked one healed you. Nice!!
Yes, waited for so long!
My 2nd favorite weapon class behind twinblades, gotta love that rotten hammer. I like to run it heavy with the rot talisman for the occasional boost.
Troll's roar is underrated as an ash, faster than 2 charged attacks and gets the same amount of stance damage.
Like most, I love dual Great stars, and not just for jump attacks, I like the dual R1 moveset in general. I like having Chilling mist frost affinity on over, and either Lions claw, or Crag blade on the other with blood affinity.
Also they have a decent 2H-CR2 moveset.
Thank you for posting. I've been waiting about a year for this vid now
Thank you ❤
I did a naked big club the other month. Honestly, it’s a good introduction into challenge runs. You do a lot of damage, but take a lot too.
Envoy's Greathammer objectively has one of the most powerful ashes in the game. Those bubbles do not care about holy resistance.
If a boss highly resists fire, chances are they aren't as resistant against holy. Those are situations where you just put away the Blasphemous Blade and instead use the Envoy's Long Horn. Also, the most fire-resistant bosses in the game are large targets that will easily get hit by all the bubbles from the Long Horn's skill.
Did a crazed prophet build with great stars and wild strikes. A lot of fun and busted damage.
I was about to start a new game and now i know what my weapons will be 😊👍💯
Envoy's Long Horn pairs really nicely as a secondary weapon with a build that mainly uses Blasphemous Blade. Bubble Shower just eats away at large targets, which quite a few bosses that are the large and towering type actually do have high fire resistance, making Blasphemous Blade ineffective. It is also quite hilarious to see a large dragon get stance broken by a swarm of bubbles.
Greathorn Hammer finally gave me a weapon to equip with the Battlemage set!
At this point Fextralife is OP
My new favorite weapon class. I love the damage output, I love stun-locking Draconic Tree Sentinels & Dragons to death, and I love the relatively simple, non-extravagant designs.
Recently did a Bloodborne-ish cosplay run (the "Great Tonitrus") which was basically just the Great Mace + Electrify Armament. You only need the 54 levels in Strength, since you're going to be two-handing it 90% of the time anyway, which frees you to invest ~25 levels into Faith. And it only gets better in NG+, since you can keep levelling Faith & Strength for even more potency.
Can't wait for these same videos when we get the DLC weapon classes!
The envoy's long horn is a neat weapon, really good side-weapon for any faith build...
I know I'm not the first to do this, and certainly not the last either, but my most broken build is a Faith build that mainly used Blasphemous Blade, with the Envoy's Long Horn as a backup weapon against bosses that were highly fire-resistant or large towering targets that will easily get hit by all the bubbles from the Long Horn's skill. Needless to say, the bosses I fought with the Long Horn fit all those descriptions, Fire Giant, Mohg, Placidusax, Magma Wyrms, etc.
Probably my favourite weapon class overall. Great Stars & Lions Claw are my go to combo if im in a tough spot with a boss.
Great stars with Wild strikes and any multi-hit attack boost is funny. Holding L2 lets you stun lock pretty much any humanoid enemy. It also builds up AP as well as bleed. Hit 'em with a follow up heavy just as bleed procs for massive damage.
Is Wild Strikes nerved or something since i played? I battled against the O'nEil or whatever hes called in the caelid swamps and he did Take like over 12+ hits and did not get broken. 😂 I swear it's like worse.
@@chaosinfernoid9008 I don't think Wild Strikes was ever really good for stance breaks, you want charged and heavy jump attacks for that.
It's good for wailing on an enemy when they're stance broken.
my trusty partner since DS3, the great mace. Finished my very first playthrough of Elden Ring with it.
I will try these
I've never bothered using a great hammer in any souls game, as I figured why bother when I like the speed of greatswords. But I finally tried the Great Stars recently and these things swing a lot faster than I expected (prob due to the 1.09 buffs).
I've been running Dual Great stars. One with fire and the other with frost, I've come to like Chilling Mist in my right hand. It's been quite fun so far and it melts most enemies. 🎉
Wow. Never seen the Celebrant's Skull in 4 different play throughs.
Dual Stone Brick Hammer jumping attacks with determination (later changing to rkr) and cragblade while wearing claw talisman and Raptors Black Feathers has yet to meet something that doesn't fall before it like a tree to a chainsaw
The brick hammer has phenomenal scaling in almost any infusion, including cold and bleed. Definitely a favorite for late game!
Great Stars!
I’m just collecting these for my strength character and also for Elden bling
The tree sentinel armor goes hard with the envoy great hammer
Envoys Long Horn did major work for me into NG+6. Anything bigger than you gets bodied by the bubbles
Dual Cold Pickaxes, high strength and intelligence. Stance breaks enemies and bosses quickly, strike and pierce damage. +24 or +25 smithed, plus jump attacks and boost intelligence talismans/ helm.
Great Stars buffed with Bloodflame Blade and Stormcaller AoW is brutal.
Offhand Blasphemous Blade for heal on kill along with the heal on hit of GS itself.
Giant-Crusher and Prelate's Inferno Crozier for me. Colossal ftw
Royal Knight aow on the giant crusher. Run and jump attack the boss with both hammers. Massive damage.
I played great stars for most of the game on my first playthrough and then I realised how strong double great hammer is and used the great horn in tandem
A underrated option on great hammers is endure with a staff or seal off hand. Endure lasts 3 seconds on these bad boys, cast whatever you want on a int build with the min str needed to wield your hammer 1 handed.
(my preferred hammer for this being celebrants skull for low weight and stat reqs plus good raw)
Yes, Great Stars + Prelate's charge + Bloodflame Blade is my favorite anti-malenia build
I love me dual-wielding Great Stars early -- and getting access to Mohg's stomping grounds quicker in the process, when you're not really fond of invading other players. Truth be told, I've got a Cold Blooded Duelist build with these paired, and is now at Journey 9, I think?
Though, with my fascination with cold great hammers, I'm toying around the idea of being a Tarnished-sized Astel in my latest build. Shame Gandalf wasn't into warhammers, and I'm just a Site of Grace away from knocking down this alien insect to the ground... while going nowhere near Leyndell, yet.
Regal Beast Claw scales mostly off faith, so a strong investment in strength AND faith will maximize the damage out put of the skill (which phenomenal against Elden Beast, since it has lower resistance to physical damage). Because of the high investment in strength and faith, it's perfect to pair with the Blasphemous Blade. Just keep BB on your back to get the heal buff from kiling things, and switch to it as necessary (ie against things weaks to fire, or to heal yourself with the aow). This combo is actually perfect for the Radagon/Elden Beast fight, as you can use the BB against Radagon, who is weak to fire, and switch to Beastclaw Greathammer for Elden Beast, and they're both buffed by the same things (more or less). Beastclaw Greathammer is one of the best weapons in the game, when spec'd correctly for it. Easy S-tier.
Fun little tip for stance break builds: Equip a level one dagger with Glintblade Phalanx on it, cast it before a boss fight, switch to your main weapon and start the fight. The phalanx will do about 4 damage but will do the full stance damage. If you start the fight with Lions Claw on a great hammer it takes you about one second to deal 82 stance damage.
I don't care what reddit says - these weapon videos are the best comprehensive weapon videos on UA-cam. It has improved my playing and it's fascinating knowing each weapons move set, damage, length etc. Im just going to say thank you so much Fextralife dude for uploading these. ❤
I got my wife and kids back by watching these videos
Pickaxe + Blood flame + Wild Strike + Spear Talisman = HOLY
"A staggering amount of stance damage"
I see what you did there!
Mine is heavy great mace on a str build. No other hammer can reach it for physical damage, and that's before you buff it with grease or spells.
11:10 Wild Strikes L2-R2 does 54.6 (6.3+6.3+42) poise damage on greathammers beating the mentioned options.
The great mace is up there with the claymore for me. So strong and so clean.
Very clean weapon for sure!
“That is a staggering amount of stance damage” I see what you did there
The 20th video were the weapon of choice us OP!
Large Club is a beast early game. Go hero class, grab it then the roar medallion and Axe Talisman that is 10 feet away from it. You do insane damage, and can even use Blue Dancer charm for a cave man build
I love using great hammers (great stars) with wild strikes 🤩
Blood infused rotten duelist hammer is an endgame monster, one of the highest stance damages in the game with 2 of the most offensive statuseffects and insane synergy with both barbaric and braggarts roar. Amazing weapon.
The fact it also has S in strength scaling if you don't want the blood infusion makes the weapon so versatile!
Finally!
wow its here
Rotten Greathammer with cold infusion, super fun playthrough.
You really should have mentioned that the brick hammer keeps great A scaling on several infusions other than heavy. This is the reason why its so good.
Ah i can't wait for the new weapon classes from the dlc
when I first platinumed the game 2 years ago I was a mage build and it wasn't too bad but melenia took I would say 10-15 hours to beat and I used coop help. Last month to prep for the DLC I beat the game again using great starts hammer and it trivialized the game and also I beat Melania first try on my own.
Night shard I’m pretty sure she doesn’t dodge, would make it pretty easy for mages.
I had no idea you could guard counter while two handing a weapon, I thought you had to have a shield.
Note taken
FINALLY!
Damn, I didn’t realize that there were weapons other than the butchering knife with that effect.
Curved Great Club my beloved
The pickaxe is my go-to for fighting dragons. It causes pierce damage, which most (but not all) dragons are more vulnerable to, and causes much more stance damage than spears.
I think Borealis is the one being super resistant to pierce damage.
Yes, I thought he just had ridiculous amount of hp the first time I fought him, turns out he has an 80% resistance to pierce. The fight went much better when I switched to a strike weapon. Ekzykes is also more resistant to pierce than the other damage types, but he is technically weak to everything.
@@jacobhougham570 I was doing a bow only run and I thought "this stupid dragon will get rekt by Radahn's Rain" then I saw all the damage it did and I said nope to that bossfight.
I didn't realize until now that all the unique Great Hammers require faith to use
Yes. Great Mace is awsome.
i hope the rest of these come out before DLC
I am on my hands and knees… PLEASE 🙇🏽♂️🙏🏽 bows are the best weapon in elden ring video when (great video though as per usual)
I use a sacred Battle Hammer for my Paladin.
Favorite weapon class in the game, and rotten battle hammer is my go-to - I can pancake a poor bastard, break their stance AND inflict scarlet rot? SOLD
RH: great stars / stormacaller / frost
LH: Longhorn Hammer /lionclaw / bleed
Nothing can stop you with this set up. Knights, bloodhounds knights, omen, knight riders, worm faces, giant rats, and even crucible knights are all trivial. plus you get health back with each hit and kill with these weapons
The Great Mace is my endgame choice!
I know it's only for PVE but you can add a PVP section with all the true combos.
Do fist weapons next
Bonk 🔨
Remember: large hammer + lions claw = flat gideon
If you could pick one game between Dragons Dogma 2 or Elden Ring to dive into which would it be?
brick hammer with cragblade aow is where its at
Hell ya Great Hammers
I do't know why,but it always feels like the brick hammer has more stance damage then the other hamers
Brick hammer mjolnir ❤
I hope the DLC gives us a great hammer that looks like the typical medieval "warhammer" one would think of. Basically similar in appearance to the pickaxe but less shitty lookin and with a longer handle. Basicslly a halberd with a hammer head 😂 would be elite for fashion Souls.
