I don't know if Maher was ignorant or choosing his words with intent, but we all know it was The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. That's also misinformation.
@teks-kj1nj If you made a batch of chocolate chip cookies and told your child not to eat them does that mean you're setting up your kid? If you leave your car keys on your dresser and tell your children not to drive your car are you setting them up? No, you're giving them a command that you expect them to obey for their own good. If they disobey then they must pay the consequences for breaking your law. When Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden tree they were basically saying they had as much authority over their lives as God. It's the reason the world is in it's present state. Thankfully God gave us the cure for our fallen world in the person of Jesus. God didn't set up Adam and Eve to disobey but He did set all of us up for an eternity in Paradise.

There was literally no purpose to god making a tree of knowledge and putting in front of them them and saying don't eat the fruit, other than to taunt them to do it.

This is all well and good but still waiting to find a SINGLE Christian who can make sense out of God intentionally creating ppl to sin and then deigning to hold them accountable for doing what they could do no other than. Aside from Calvinists most Christians try to claim it's cuz God gave us free will. If that's your answer it's time to go back to the drawing board.
God created a sentient being (you) with the CHOICE of doing good or bad. You have a CHOICE. And, if he opted to do as you would imply, he would be creating AUTOMATONS lacking FREE WILL. You have the CHOICE to freely embrace our Creator, or reject Him. It's up to you. If you decide to live your life sans God, then your choice will ultimately be honored when the final curtain comes down on you.
The Gospels were complete well before 70AD as that was when the Temple was destroyed by the Romans and Jesus predicted it Why then would the writer's of the Gospels leave out this detail
Okay. I'll play that "Did He Really Exist" game with him. If he can't figure out the fact that skeptics and Theologians alike agree that a man named Jesus claimed to be the son of God. There's a lot more proof of Jesus' existence than the others I mentioned.
I believe in Jesus and that there was a man named Jesus but, it doesn’t matter if Jesus was real or not. What matters is that the spirit of Jesus lives on.
Well, let’s look at what’s different between Christianity and other religions. All religions teach that we should be kind, generous, helpful, compassionate, forgiving, etc.. and they believe that by doing those good things u can EARN your way into Heaven; that good deeds can outweigh bad ones…. So entry into Heaven is based on what YOU yourself do. Christianity says that yes, we should always try to be kind, generous, helpful, compassionate, etc.. But the reality is that even when we do those things, we still sin constantly (especially in our mind and heart). We ALL are petty, or lustful, or greedy, or hedonistic, or disrespectful, or jealous, or envious, or selfish, or dishonest, or vengeful, or hold grudges, etc.. and those sins leave a filthy disgusting mark on our souls that is NOT erased by our good deeds. Every time we sin, we break God’s rules and rub more putrid sewage on our souls. Because the almighty, sovereign, God (creator of the universe and our individual souls) is so pure and righteous and holy, we are not worthy to even be in his presence. So, there is no way we are worthy to live with him in the glorious unparalleled beauty of Heaven. The problem is that WE can’t clean OURSELVES off. Good deeds don’t “balance out” bad ones; they don’t cancel out the stain of sin. Since God is a just, righteous judge, our sins have consequences. And when we die, we need to pay the price. But since Heaven is pure, holy, & sinless the price for our sin is eternal separation from God. But God knew this, and yet he loves us anyway and wants ALL of us to go to Heaven. So what is the solution? God the Father came up with a plan and Jesus (God the Son) agreed to it. Jesus willingly left the glory of his heavenly throne behind, and wrapped himself in human form. After he had grown into a man, he allowed himself to be betrayed, arrested, beaten, slapped, stripped, humiliated, spat on, whipped, nailed to a cross, and suffer a slow, horrible, agonizing death (while people mocked him) to pay the price for our sins. That’s why he sacrificed himself… to SAVE us. He was our scapegoat, our whipping boy. He was willing to endure all that because he loves & values each of us that much. We are that important to him. And when he died, all our sins (past, present & future) were forgiven. He essentially bought our “ticket to Heaven”. He then holds that ticket out to each of us saying “I love u. I died to save u. Please accept my free gift to u. All u need to do is put your faith and trust in me. Will u do that?” If we truly accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior and commit to following him, we accept our own personal ticket. Pretty cool. We can ALL get to Heaven NOT because of what WE DO but because of what JESUS DID. That is the good news of the gospel of salvation thru Christ. Christianity is about bending the knee to almighty God, being humble, realizing that we are sinners and not worthy, and only thru the sacrifice of Jesus can we make it to Heaven. It is built-in dependence on Christ instead of ourselves. Sure, he wants us to be good, kind, helpful, compassionate, etc.. but we don’t do that to “earn” Heaven. We do it because not only it is Christlike and the “right” thing to do, but it is also pleasing to God. And we really WANT to please him because we are so thankful and indebted to him.
It’s funny that he said we have no proof in a historical Jesus and the. Goes on to name people we have less records of than Jesus and documented hundreds of years after they were Alive unlike Jesus who was recorded in the first century as early as like 10 years after he died and rose again if not earlier
I've always known maher is an ignoramus but I didn't know he's totally devoid of any facts whatsoever about Jesus, his apostles, or the Bible. No wonder he makes such outrageously stupid statements.
Atheists’ make me laugh. They spend more time trying to prove Jesus wasn’t real than accept Him. They could go Past the marker but they can’t. they want markers of Jesus be taken down. Well it seems to me that there must be a small amount of The Lord within themselves because it nags at them. They can’t quit talking about Jesus. I’m going continue to follow The Lord and see what happens to them.
The gospel werent written 70AD to 110, the reason they date them that late is because they will not accept Jesus prophesy of the temple being destroyed. There is no evidence it was written 70 Ad, all evidence proves it was before.
There is no evidence that any of the gospels were written in the 1st century. Btw, Josephus writes about a different Jesus. Jesus the son of Ananias who also foretold the destruction of the temple and of Jerusalem. Maybe that’s where the gospel authors got that idea from.
Bill Maher's understanding of the Bible and Christianity is... amusingly ignorant, to put it mildly. I mean he's ignorant about a lot of stuff but particularly Christianity, which he has genuine animosity toward.
The very fact that Maher SAYS that Cleopatra and Julius Caesar definitely existed, tells you something: that the Romans would have been EXTREMELY worried that some descendant of those two (because they DID have a kid) was mounting a serious challenge to the murderers and usurpers in Rome using the quite powerful Egyptian and Judaic armed men around at the time to support him. This is clearly the reason they posed the question the individual Pilate allowed to be murdered by the Idumean (Arab) Herod: 'Do you say that you are KING?' This is CLEARLY described by Roman writers who were nothing at all to do with the early Christians. If nothing else at all, there is 100% clear-cut political fact about his existence and that the Romans dispatched Him and sought to obliterate anyone who supported or followed Him. Maher is insane.
New Covenant Whole Gospel: How many modern Christians cannot honestly answer the questions below? Who is the King of Israel in John 1:49? Is the King of Israel now the Head of the Church, and are we His Body? Who is the “son” that is the “heir” to the land in Matthew 21:37-43? Why did God allow the Romans to destroy the Old Covenant temple and the Old Covenant city, about 40 years after His Son fulfilled the New Covenant promised in Jeremiah 31:31-34 in blood at Calvary? What the modern Church needs is a New Covenant Revival (Heb. 9:10) in which members of various denominations are willing to re-examine everything they believe and see if it agrees with the Bible, instead of the traditions of men. We need to be like the Bereans. It will be a battle between our flesh and the Holy Spirit. It will not be easy. If you get mad and upset when someone challenges your man-made Bible doctrines, that is your flesh resisting the truth found in God's Word. Nobody can completely understand the Bible unless they understand the relationship between the Old Covenant given to Moses at Mount Sinai and the New Covenant fulfilled in blood at Calvary. God is not now a “racist”. He has extended His love to all races of people through the New Covenant fulfilled by His Son’s blood at Calvary. The Apostle Paul warned against using “genealogies” in our faith in 1 Tim. 1:4, and Titus 3:9. If the New Covenant is "everlasting" in Hebrews 13:20 and the Old Covenant is "obsolete" in Hebrews 8:13, why would any Christian believe God is going back to the Old Covenant system during a future time period? Even Agnostic Dr. Bart Ehrman, Head of the Dept. of Religious Studies at UNC-Chapel Hill, admits there was a "real" Jesus of Nazareth.
There is agreement above and beyond any historical figure, among historians (Christian or secular) that Jesus was real. From the accounts in the gospels to contemporary reports and references, including the Jewish Talmud. As for the gospels being written thirty or forty years later was still within the lifetime of those who witnessed Christ. Remember these were witnesses that gained no social or material advantage in telling their experience’s. Only persecution, ostracism, and death.
Are we watching two (2) drunks debate the historical possibility of Jesus - whole momentarily puzzling over "... He died in 33 A.D. aaaand He was 33..." and initially not comprehending the "puzzling coincidence." There are more issues here than understanding of basic history. Sober up first fellas, and then get serious about the Savior of the world.
@ /// Cleopatra and Julius Ceasar don’t have any supernatural claims./// That’s irrelevant to the point that Bill Maher was making. The historicity of Jesus is about his existence, not his supernatural claims. Some fictional things are said about George Washington. While some of those fictions (like the cherry tree) are in doubt, no reasonable person doubts GW was a real person. We can establish, historically, that: 1. Jesus lived around the first century during the reign of Emperor Tiberius Ceaser. 2. He died by crucifixion. 3. His followers claimed he rose from the dead. 4. Within 250 AD, the four gospels had been written and translated into multiple languages all around the Roman Empire. 5. His followers were meeting on Sunday and worshiping him by 200 AD or earlier. 6. At least one of the gospels, and possibly more MUST have been written before 70 AD. This date is important because Jerusalem was destroyed in 70 AD. Any of the important landmarks described would have been under a mountain of rubble, inaccessible to later decades.
@@andyhoward8444Questioning the supernatural claims are fine. I remember Maher talking about Adam and Eve in a disparaging tone about Christianity. His whole argument that God isn't holy is that He told them not to eat of the Tree of Knowledge. I don't know if Maher was ignorant or choosing his words with intent, but we all know it was The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. That's also misinformation.
why did god make a tree like this and then why did he put the tree there in front of them? sounds like a setup to me.
@@markrichards3747 Well yeh actually. Why bake cookies, put them in front of people and tell them they can't ever eat them, if not to taunt them?
Car keys is not analogous, so throw that one out.
If you make something for sole purpose of tempting someone, then that is being a douche. There was literally no purpose to god making a tree of knowledge and putting in front of them them and saying don't eat the fruit, other than to taunt them to do it.
His ignorance about about Paul is the most egregious. Paul talks about Jesus being born to a woman, having followers, being crucified and resurrected, the Last Super. Many if these details are included in the Corinthian creed which is dated before Paul's letters.

Yo I'm two minutes in and the ignorance is baffling.
Chat GPT has some resources to look at to support the historical existence of Christ.
Merry Christmas, Ps. Frederick! Bill needs to stop getting high.

Both willfully ignorant, the guest is simply enthralled by Maher and isn't able to provide a counter argument.

There's a hot lake in Bill's future.
Acts 9: 15-16 says that Jesus commissioned Paul to cary on his message.

Compared to other historical figures, the accounts for Jesus have been recorded earlier than the likes of Tiberius or Alexander the Great for example. The history of Jesus is one of the closest accounts recorded in terms of when it was written.
Cleopatra existed-does anyone have her birth certificate she existed?
When you know the truth it's kinda hilarious how wrong he is.
Except, you don't. You're the opposite side of the same coin as he is. In your head you couldn't possibly be wrong. While not conclusive, the overwhelming probability is that you are.
ok, explain how he's wrong then
Thank you.
No wonder Jesus does not know or care about these people. I hope that he'll meet🙏 HIM 🙏 on his next journey 🙏
It seems to me that Bill Maher is fascinated with the topic of Jesus Christ and is seeking answers about the truth of Christ in his own way. May he realise that Jesus is indeed the way, truth and light of the world and be freed from his burden of seeking.
there is a good case to be made for Mark being written in before 37AD as he does not name Caiaphas by name; rather, he names him as "the high priest." Bill Maher's info comes from Bart Ehrman's "novels" that he unfortunately wrote for money. Ehrman's real academic work is good.
Maher walking through the easy wide gate, praying he wakes up
Bill has no idea what he is talking about.
Bill thinks Jesus may not have even existed?
Yet he talks about this supposed myth a lot!
If he really believes it then why repeat it over
& over as if the more he says it the more “myth”
Jesus will be! HILARIOUS his mind is stuck on Jesus
Bill Maher will be the next Bill Carson he just needs to take a debate and be embarrassed
This is obviously a proof of someone that makes it up as it goes for the show.
The Gospels were complete well before 70AD as that was when the Temple was destroyed by the Romans and Jesus predicted it
Why then would the writer's of the Gospels leave out this detail
Because that’s not what the story was about?
Jesus is using Bart Ehrman!
Whoa, good land Bill….
arrogance + ignorance = Dunning Kruger effect.
Don’t rush….get your headline spelled correctly!
John and Matthew knew Christ.
Okay. I'll play that "Did He Really Exist" game with him. If he can't figure out the fact that skeptics and Theologians alike agree that a man named Jesus claimed to be the son of God. I'll agree that Jesus didn't exist if he agrees that there was no Cleopatra, Alexander The Great, Plato, Socrates all didn't exist because there are archeological findings Corroborating Jesus' existence. There's a lot more proof of Jesus' existence than the others I mentioned.
Bill maher has absolutely no idea what he's talking about 😂
The Holy Spirit is Real And testifies of The living reality of Jesus
Absolutely. He is the primary proof.
Bro you sound like an intelligent version of Marcus Rogers
Will u do that?”
If we truly accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior and commit to following him, we accept our own personal ticket.
I am told that many first rate atheist historians concede that Jesus was raised from the dead in some sense.
I know that many first rate Christian historians concede that none of the gospels accurately portray what the historical Jesus said or did.
who told you that?
zombie resurrection has to be one of the least compelling arguments there is.
Post more bro, the algo likes you. MAKE THAT MONEY. donate it if you want. JUST POST MORE.
Frank Turek would eat Bill for breakfast.
Bill Maher's understanding of the Bible and Christianity is... amusingly ignorant, to put it mildly. I mean he's ignorant about a lot of stuff but particularly Christianity, which he has genuine animosity toward.
what is he wrong about?

Bill is a poor actor now well on his way to an eternity separated from God. What a sad and miserable character!?
Bill Maher is entrenched in his ignorance. He’s certain about Julius Ceasar and Cleopatra but in doubt about the existence of Jesus’s existence?
Caesar and Cleopatra don't have any supernautural claims
@
///
Cleopatra and Julius Ceasar don’t have any supernatural claims.///
That’s irrelevant to the point that Bill Maher was making. The historicity of Jesus is about his existence, not his supernatural claims. Some fictional things are said about George Washington. While some of those fictions (like the cherry tree) are in doubt, no reasonable person doubts GW was a real person.
We can establish, historically, that:
Questioning the historicity of Jesus, who actually has writings about him within a century of his death, while accepting the existence of Alexander the Great (there's supernatural claims about him too, but not as grandiose), who we don't have any writings about him until three centuries after his death, is plain ignorance.
@@andyhoward8444
Claims of the supernatural are irrelevant to how they were dated.

False, Pliny the elder did not write a single word about Jesus. It was Pliny the younger. Second he did NOT say early Christians worshipped Christ as God. He said they sung hymns to him as one would do to a god. Big difference. Apologists are so embarrassing. Educate yourselves so you'll stop actively doing damage to the Faith
Bill maur knows nothing about Jesus.
Ok, yes Nero actually is a historical figure, Neeo was also the Emperor that Paul appealed to in Acts 25, but not named, however the evidence for a historical Kesis Christ is the most attested to figure on antiquity, Bill mahar is super ignorant when it comes to theology.
Bill got almost everything wrong here. Jesus died around 29 a.d. The Gospel writers were eye-witnesses. The last book of the Bible written was Revelation and that was written about sixty years after Jesus death, by John whom Jesus prophesied would become very old.
The word says that even when it’s preached incorrectly, God can use it for the good of those who are called according to his purpose God‘s got Bill’s ear. I believe we’re about to see a Saul to Paul conversion. for the time being bill doesn’t know what he doesn’t know and he has scales on his eyes. Pray that he comes to Christ…
