Hi Eric, This 88 year old man learn more in the three free videos that you showed how, then I have in 20 years. Thanks George Cox
Love to hear that, George! My pleasure my friend!
This is the SINGLE best training video that I’ve ever seen, because of this one simple thing I’ve knocked 11 shots off of my handicap I can’t thank you enough, I’m hitting longer drives and my iron shots are penetrating.
Love it! Happy to hear that!
Eric, one of the best lessons on UA-cam on the most nb parts of the swing. Well played
Thanks, Mark!
Hey Eric, wanted to say thank you for your content. Your chipping video already helped me gain some confidence. Im excited to continue to grow my game with your videos. I love the way you communicate your points. Keep it up
Thanks, Dave! Appreciate the kind words...my pleasure my friend!
Thanks your tutorial, you explain the importamt secret of swing that other not teach as simple like yours. It works
Thanks Yuda! Our pleasure!
Eric. You are the best golf swing teacher on the internet.... by far. i'm working on your backswing drills and this one is next.
Thanks, David! Appreciate it!
One of the most impactful videos I have ever watched. Your videos (detailed & repetitive) really resonate! Marc
Appreciate it, Marc! Glad it has helped!
Thanks for this instruction, Eric! It works amazingly well and isn't even hard to practice. The pressure to the left foot in the downswing has helped me a lot to get rid of the sway movement of my hips and is the key for a good turn in my eyes. Keep up the solid work!
Appreciate it, Frank!
Love your content Eric, straight to the point with simple drills that bring results. Keep it up.
Thanks, Andy! Appreciate the support
After watching this I swear the clouds parted and I heard angels singing. Thanks so much.
Lol that's a beautiful thing!
This is the most effective drill that I have seen and it worked for me last night! Definitely added distance and improved my ball striking.. been struggling to start with my lower body but this really helped me start from the ground up! One of my favorites from your vids. Thanks Eric!
My pleasure my friend. Happy to help!
so useful indeed! this well explains how the power is loaded onto the club head from the ground. thx, eric!
My pleasure!
This is one of the best videos I've ever seen. So much good info. Thanks Eric!
My pleasure, Gary. Appreciate the kind words.
no problem man!
Have a great day!
Another absolutely superb video Eric. Us living on distant shores are very fortunate indeed to have your instruction available to us.
Happy to help my friend!
HI, I´ve being playing for just a couple of years. To me, this is one of the best videos where you can find a way to improve your swing.
Let me tell you thanks a lot! Now it´s just a matter of training it.
Glad to hear that my friend!
The knee flexion and chest closer to the ground are a HUGE help to me. It also allows me to keep my left hip and shoulder lower longer in the downswing (something I've been trying to improve for some time). Lastly, knee flexion and chest down allows plenty of space for the shallowed club to drop into - as long as my right elbow stays tucked in. Thank you for the great drills and your explanations!
Agreed!
Thanks, Mike! Appreciate you being here!
Older video, but I'm so glad I saw this two weeks ago. As someone who chunks when I miss, my brain didn't like the concept of lowering my shoulder in transition at first. But that, coupled with shallowing the shaft at the top and rotating through, has done wonders. My downswing transition actually looks athletic now, and I've shallowed my downswing tremendously with half the effort. Please keep doing what you're doing, Eric. You've helped my game out tremendously the past year or so.
Love to hear that my friend!
Great video , thanks for the Best golf instruction videos so far on UA-cam !!! Greetings from Poland :)
Appreciate it Radek! Thanks for watching!
Another excellent lower body move. So far, you're the best in explaining how lower body should work during the transition from backswing to downswing. Super awesome!
Thanks, Ben! Appreciate the kind words!
i can definately use all this. thnx, steve
This is more of the modern way to swing a club. I'm 55 and have been pretty much a hands and arms player for most of my life. Was taught the old school way. I went to a rotational swing about three months ago. This was how I swung as a kid but got away from it over the years.
My power, distance went way up once I started relearning how to move my body. Awesome stuff.
Love it!
Simple and effective I'll be out on the range tommorow night to try it out. Keep up the good work
Thanks, Andrew. Appreciate it!
Wasted months viewing tons of instructions videos to fix a chronic over the top and casting move! Was shooting between 79-82 and for the last 8 months, couldn't break 90. Took these instructions to the practice range two days ago, and today shot 80. Ecstatic and elated! Thanks, Eric! I'm back in the high life again! :)
Love it, Faisal! Happy to hear that my friend!
More Great Stuff Eric. I've practiced similar drills years ago and felt they worked but a teaching pro' told me they might create problems, so not knowing or having the confidence to question him I stopped. Man I knew I was right, so thanks Eric for putting me back on track.
Regards
James
My pleasure, my friend!
Thank you for bridging the gap and blending the turn with the weight shift. Other teachers make it seem like it is a shift and then a turn. I played baseball for years and make this move naturally, but struggled with understanding that in the golf swing it is very similar. Thanks Eric!
My pleasure!
You helped me immensely with takeaway which helped my ball striking. Hip rotation is worst part of my swing an guys weaker than me hit it further. Gonna try this drill see if I can start firing those hips an getting those 300 Bryson bombs 💣
Hope it helps!
This is really interesting, exactly what I've been trying to do on my own but without the hanger. Took some screenshots of Rory's P3/P5 positions and was trying to mimic the same. Can't seem to translate the same into my full swing at the range, probably need a lot more repetition.
Gotta try with the hanger next. Thanks Eric.
My pleasure my friend!
Usual top quality instruction Eric, really helpful and detailed to help us get better, and understand why.
Appreciate it my friend!
Thanks Eric!! breaking down the Swing steps. Excellent video👍👍
You got it! Appreciate it!
Great video Eric, I'm going to pump the hell out of these drills!
Thanks, Phil! Get er done
What an excellent video. Such thorough instruction and very helpful. Thank you!
Appreciate it!
Great piece Eric thanks. To steal a from a previous lesson...for me a good “feel” is a clockwise rotation of the trail foot and a “push away from the target line” with the forward foot simultaneously. The forward foot doesn’t actually slide away from the target line but the resultant straightens of the knee results in a strong “twisting motion” . More rotation, sooner with automatic lag.
I like that feel as well!
Thank you for visual aide. Great video!!
Thanks, John!
I went to the range after watching this video earlier today and did exactly as instructed with my 8 iron and then a fifty degree wedge. I cannot believe how effective this is and how pure my impact was. I saw towering and penetrating draw ball flight even into a two club wind. I'm watching this again now after my return to make sure I retain every second of this instruction. I'm thinking I'll watch it each time before my range sessions for at least the next few weeks. Thanks Eric.....your videos continue to deliver positive results.
That's awesome, Ray. Happy to help my friend!
Excellent!!!! That flex of the legs and move of the chest allows or causes the forearms to rotate slightly away from target and shallow the club correctly for an inside approach to correct impact.
Thanks!
Excellent instruction as always. Keep up the good work
Thanks, Doug!
Great instruction once again. Thanks Eric
My pleasure, Gordon. Appreciate it!
Just found this one Eric , def where I go wrong (hit the ball with hips parallel to target line) 🙄 so ingrained in its difficult to change , will try these drills today. 🏌🏻♂️love the jargon free simple explanations 👍🏻👌🏻
Happy to help my friend....if you can't rotate, have to check the things beforehand that might be holding you back (open face, swing direction, etc)
In my HUMBLE opinion anyone watching this video can erase every drill, or video you have ever seen and do this drill and look at nothing else. this is THE ONE
:)
John
Totally agree word for word, it’s been saved into my favourites straight away
Putting it on my phone so I CAN TAKE IT TO THE RANGE
Honestly, was thinking the exact same thing. So, so good.
These are definitely good, but in my opinion (also humble), he fails to address one of the keys in a good downswing. And that is the fact that you have to re-center yourself before starting to apply pressure in the downswing. That means that the downswing starts at around left arm parallel in the backswing, by recentering your weight, you reach the top of the swing with weight at around 50-50% again, and only then, you post on your left leg and apply pressure with your left foot.
If you are not recentered, you will have to shift your weight and then apply the pressure. There is no time to do so since the downswing is about 9% of the total time of the entire swing.
Cheers Eric, it’s getting pretty cold over here in the north west of England, these are perfect in door drills, I’m doing them with just my socks on, I’m getting more feed back, without shoes 👍🏌️♂️
:) Do as much as you can with a ball. The ROI on practice time is much higher....can be a wiffle or foam ball.
Keep up the great work Eric!
Thank you Tony! Appreciate you watching!
excellent drill. after 25 years of hanging in Golf course and driving range experience. helpful even in four kinds of inclination as well.
Appreciate it!!
I follow GG Swing tips. These two guys are very similar. Good stuff. Like the principles here. They totally line up with how I want to swing.
Hope it helps! Love George!
Love the way you put things together Eric. Contrary to what other people say I believe this is one of the best golf instruction video series on the net to date.
Thanks, Tony! Appreciate it!
@@CogornoGolf I am renovating my house at the moment, but when I finish and can train every day I will join your website and obtain you as my golf coach.
These are great drills, really isolates some key fundamentals
Appreciate it!
Best teaching video on the tube !!
Appreciate it :)
This video is so good. Thank you!
Appreciate it, Chris!
KISS, right?
Been off lately and this really helped me focus on one thought on the course, pressure forward.
Here's to sluggin in the winter around the Pacific NW!
Thanks once again Eric!
My pleasure my friend. Alway KISS when possible! :)
This video is so good. I played yesturday and was even for 5 hole and then i started thinking how do i start my downswing correctly and how do my shoulders work. I bogeyed next 4 holes. This video is awesome. It is a simple move I can make. I do suggest hitting 90-100 balls a day. It helps swing be more fluid. I told my dad about this video and my range friends.
Appreciate it, Jim!
Really good drills. Mary, thanks for the “bleep”.
Trying to cut them out all together...my apologies.
Thanks so much for a wonderful set of drills. I am going to try these & comment on the results.
My pleasure! Keep my updated!
@@CogornoGolf Here's my pushback as promised: These drills helped my swing consistency so much that in my last 4 rounds, I missed the fairway only 11 times (i.e., success rate of 61 for 72 or 84.7%) and GIR of 44 for 72 (about 61%). But, don't ask me about my score, I still have work to do on my short game and putting ;) Thanks again for your wonderful lessons!
I have watched a ton of golf instruction videos, but i what i like about yours is that you have a very unique way of breaking things down and introducing concepts. This video is my favorite on the transition. One minor suggestion, it would be helpful to have some slow motion footage of when you hit the ball. To me all your full shots look the same, and i cant really see what is going on, as it happens so fast. Thanks.
I appreciate it, Dominic! Thanks for the kind words and the feedback!
Eric you are taking UA-cam to the next level 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you, my friend! I'm excited about the direction we're heading. Hoping the videos only keep getting better!
@@CogornoGolf no thank you . Head and shoulders above the rest you should hook up with gg and push youtube through the roof bud
Great explanation and demonstration. Wish I could get my son-in-law to watch and implement.
Thanks! Tell him he better watch or hes out of the fam :)
Was struggling hitting hooks and not being able to hit my 3 wood or 3 iron off the tee....realised I was early extending....watched this video this morning, hot balls this evening doing this and what a difference!! Ball speed with 3 wood was up at 135mph and it was pure! Great video one of the best drills I've ever done successfully
Awesome! Good stuff man!!
I watched a few of your videos this morning and I find them very informative. I built an indoor hitting situation up in Canada and purchased a SkyTrak unit however I’m tired of looking at 90% pulls. My path is outside to in 3° and my club face is shut. It looks like this drill will help a few of those things I also watched your drill called best combo drill you have ever seen. If you could point me towards more drills focussing on the first move at the top I would appreciate it
Hey Rich! Thanks for the kind words.
I would start here without seeing you swing: ua-cam.com/video/APsIJ4M2oSY/v-deo.html
This will help ensure your path more from inside
Could also move ball more back in stance, move handle more forward at setup, etc.
I would really need to see your swing to say for sure...check out www.cogornogolf.com if you dont get it sorted Im sure I could have fix that pretty quick
Such a great and relevant lesson. Thank u thank u
Thanks, Sheila! Our pleasure....appreciate ya!
The comparison between the left-arm parallel positions on the way up and the way down is very clever, and it certainly all makes sense. Obviously, this is only a small part of an overall plan for improvement, but one of the biggest issues is then going to be sequencing. I can't speak for others, but I know that when I try to "put it all together" I will rush my downswing so that the third key (i.e. flatter plane) comes before the other two. Or, I'll reflex and open up before shifting pressure (as you warn against at the end), hitting it fat. One starts to become a real golfer when you can relax at the top and sequence these three moves correctly and fluidly (easy to say, I know). Thanks again for the video (your chipping and pitching tips have transformed that part of my game).
Hey Norman! Thanks for the kind words...glad you have enjoyed the videos!
Love your stuff, your consistent grind on new content is awesome, One question on this video- You mention forward flex but in some other videos you mention adding some right side bend to balance pressure shift....is the front bend the 80/20 and don’t worry as much on side bend or is it a blended bend ( front then side) as you rotate.
Thank you sir!
Some general points....
You are in extension at the top of the backswing
You lose that extension and re gain forward flexion to start the downswing
You then lose that forward flexion and regain extension into the follow through
You add left side bend to the top of the backswing
You replace left side bend with right side bend throughout the downswing
What each person should feel (how much flexion vs side bend) it relative to where they are coming from....
Phantastic again!
Thanks :)
Awesome content Eric! 👌👍
Thanks, Stuart!
Very good drills , thank you 👍💥
Appreciate it---our pleasure!
Another terrific video. I also saw a recent video by Danny Maude about swinging the club slower for more distance which when combined with the drills you provide has given me a lot of good stuff to work on during the off-season winter months. Interestingly, I find that if i keep my wrists and hands very loose at the top of the backswing it helps me to fight the urge to hit the ball from the top and allows me time to shift weight to left foot, to rotate better and clear my hips. You mention soft hands and wrists a little in your video but for many of us this is one of the most significant weakness in amateur golf swings For some reason we think that squeezing the club harder will generate more speed and distance and that manipulating the position of the club with tension will lead to better shots. The exact opposite is true.
Appreciate it, Robert. I agree with you! I also like Danny and the videos of his that I have seen.
Sounds like you're on the right track.
Your instruction is dead on. Learning the correct pressure moves from left arm parallel in the backswing to the down swing will make even the beginner golfer SO much better. The shallowing move looks so easy but it's a challenge. You're great at spinning current golf instruction into easy to understand keys. Great job.
Appreciate it Scott! Agreed!
Tremendous informative video. Great job. One question so I fully get this right. Mentioned squating and rotating with foot pressure going to forward foot(60/40) but does the spine move forward slightly or just the lower body?
Whole body...spine as well....just a little.
Great! Thank you so much!!!!!!
Our pleasure!
I like! You nail it. Also important that a golfer keep that 40% weight pressure on the right foot so he can activate and use his right lateral hip rotator muscles to efficiently turn and open up the hips! The hips can’t rotate correctly without enough weight pressure on the right foot during the first part of the downswing. Absolutely essential!
Thanks, Jim!
90% of videos focus on fixing the slice. I struggle with being too quick and having a overtly closed club face at impact. This last drill helped so much. I can't believe how great of a swing I've always had and never knew it cause this one thing was holding me back so much. Fixed the wrists and I'm hitting a pretty draw every time
Love it man!
Eric, I think you really need to do a video on the arm structure in the downswing. Specifically, what are your thoughts on letting your arms shallow ALONG with the club during the downswing? I find if you physically keep arms up while rotating, it gets the arms out too far and the shaft plane gets much steeper. Thanks!
Hey Duke! Perfect timing :) Look out for the videos this WED and FRI will talk about this!
Great Video !
Thanks, Jamie!
Excellent drill. Wow
Thanks!
One broken hanger...and one "bleep"...3 great drillz...thnx..
:)
Eric shot my first 75 yesterday the right wrist at the top of back swing to allow for a bowed wrist at impact had me hitting my irons like i thought was never possible!
Love it, Stewart!
@@CogornoGolf is this what they call the "Hogan Roll"? Just curious...my days of cupping the wrist are long gone that was an excellent tutorial Eric
Nicely presented
Thanks, man. Hope you are well!
Who downvotes these videos? This is great info! Another great video.
Thanks, Jeff :)
Eric, another great one. Can you add something to this? I have been working similar drills mostly to get rid of early extension. I drill and drill and get really good at half shots. Whats the trick to going back to a full swing and keeping good timing. Some days I play with a half swing because the full swing can turn into army golf.
I think thats normal for the most part...I would have to see you do the swings to give you a specific answer...
Not much should change from 1/2 to full
“and that feels really good...” 😂 brilliant.
:)
Another excellent video. Hopefully you had an excellent Christmas! Thanks again! 🏌️⛳ ...a year later LOL
Thanks, Tony! Appreciate it-you as well!
Very helpfull ..
Great to hear! Thanks for being here with us!
Well explained
Thanks Sam!
Excellent
Thanks Steven!
like it Eric 👍
Thanks!
Possibly the best video you have ever done. Thank you
Thanks, Harold!!
Oh, one more thing. A great drill and exercise is to stand on your right foot only in golf posture and practice turning the hips over and over. Do it until you can feel those right external hip rotator muscles fatigue a bit. Getting these muscles to work right during the transition is key!
Hi Eric, great drills, visual and very easy to understand, thanks. Is there a possibility the club shallows out too much and is too far "off plane" when you drop the club head ?
Thank you!
100% could get too UNDER plane. GOOD problem...but can be a problem.
Easy fix though!
For Winter golf training this video is all you need. At the range (under a heater of course) and indoors slow motion, right? How many times a day to you recommend to do each drill in slow motion? 50xs? 100xs?
Thanks 👊🏽
I think 30-50 balls 3-5 times per week is plenty.
There will be a point of diminishing returns where it makes more sense to spend that time in other areas (driver, putting, chipping, wedges, etc)
Eric Cogorno Golf do you have a discount code for the Tour Striker Educator?
There should be a link in the description for it...not sure what the discount is or if there is one but I'll ask Mary
Eric,
I had an instructor want me to push my hip forward on the down swing is this correct or incorrect?
Thanks
Forward it what direction?
One of your best videos. A good feel for shallowing the club on the downswing is to feel like your right forearm is facing up. Works for me and improves club head speed
Thanks! Thats definitely one way to do it!
Hi Eric
I watched this tip yesterday and used it in my game today and found immediate results in consistently good strikes , increased distance and accuracy in my irons and recovery clubs but with my driver I could only hit big slices where the ball immediately started right(club face open at impact) and no matter how hard I tried to keep my c/face square or closed it still went right.
Any suggestions?
Hey Michael for open face with driver I would start herE:
ua-cam.com/video/YQYqfXKfKY4/v-deo.html
or here
ua-cam.com/video/A_cgbstbMKU/v-deo.html
Eric Hi. Great videos. Thank you. If I may ask- what do you suggest regarding stance with 8 iron down to the wedges? is it good to open stance with each shorter club? If so does that create a more left to right ball movement?
Hey! Thanks!
You CAN open with those but I don't prefer that. I find with that players dont get enough turn nor arm depth in backswing.
Again its an option but I like to keep things fairly square
Wedges under 100 slightly open OK to help with swing plane
@@CogornoGolf Thank you so much Eric. Wow !! I must say your videos are the best teaching aids. I have only been playing golf for 10 years and at 63 years of age and countless attempts of finding great tutorials, you are, once again, by far the best online teacher. Thank you very much again.
Hi to increase flex can you start by moving your left knee first down and out im finding it hard to get consistant pressure shift onto my left side victor
Yes you can.
I find by tucking my right elbow in at transition shallows the shaft, thinking about my wrist angles does my head in. I feel it makes me too narrow though.
Got it. "Tucking right elbow" I would have to see to give specific advice but getting the right arm/shoulder in more external rotation is a common move for great ball strikers (not that you must consciously think about it)
Eric, I started practicing this yesterday. The whole idea of reflexing the knees on the downswing while rotating is a good one, but is not coming easy to me. Should I be discouraged or do I need to keep drilling the move until it takes? I am videoing it and I see the move happening in my practice swings but when I actually hit the ball the changes are not so visible.
Hey!
I do not know.
I would need to see your swing on video to really offer any advice here. Could be something going on earlier not letting your brain do it....
Consider joining www.cogornogolf.com you can send in your swings there for us to help!
Just to add. My strength in my game is my short game just from watching your vids. Not downing you just trying to help you
Love the bleep haha.
Hi Eric. Nice tips. BTW, which club should I use for these drills?
Thanks! I would work with a short iron Pw-8i generally speaking when doing drills
@@CogornoGolf thanks!!
I'm from the Philippines, handicap 23 a year ago, of all the tutorial videos i've seen, THIS one INSTANTLY cured my drive, detailed explanation. now i'm handicap 14 & getting better😀
Yes...love to hear that, Roy!!!
hi eric. it seems like your opening the face of club coming down on this drill. is this contradicting " the biggest mistake drill" of closing face?
Hey Michael! IF I was then yes it is....I may have done a poor job in demonstrating in this older video.
All the best.
Man 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks, pal!
