God dayum, I am so glad my brain never gets put in a doggybag and just follows what people say on social media. Taylor was born in a wealthy family, very privileged. Her father comes from 3 generation of bankers! Her father worked at Merrill-Lynch as a stock broker and her mother worked in mutual funds. They were raking in the millions. What are you on about coming from school of hard knocks. Just because a record label did dirty on her does not mean she was living in the street, or was an orphan or her family were poor. She has the money to fight them in court and it would have cost her millions to fight this. Most average joe or jane artist can't and have to walk away because they are poor, broke or just haven't that kind of support system.
Unlike many artists, she was not the ideal story of a poor broke artists or artist living in a poor family or middle class family. She and her family had the money to even buy the label outright if she wanted to. She had access to that kind of capital.
This is like the fake stories people tell about J.K rowling on how poor she was, so poor she wrote her book in a cafe. The brother of JK owned that damn cafe. She wasn't poor either.
I don't have a particular interest in anything other than the business side of this story, but if even half of this is true, then count me on Taylor's side. I have to say, what she did is pretty impressive from a business perspective.

A lot of new and up and coming female artists go to Taylor to get advice on the music industry and how females are treated, especially ones that are about to break out. Spotify(I think it was Spotify maybe Apple though) had a free 3 month trial period where consumers could listen to everything free. Taylor didn't think that was fair to not pay the artists for their work. She writes or co writes every song on all of her albums. That 3 month trial period means nobody who worked on the albums get paid either. All the behind the scenes people, producers, mixers, musicians. Most artists first contract they make very little money because the label is taking a risk on them. The artists have to pay back the studio time and everyone who worked on their album and artist development before the artist makes any real money. Taylor took all of her music off of the streaming service and wrote them an open letter explaining why she didn't think music should be free. Within 2 weeks the streaming service changed their policy. I believe all of them did because they could see what was coming. As soon as they changed it she put all of her music back on. The consumers still had the trial period but the streaming companies had to pay the artists. That was probably around 8-10 years ago. Every label was courting her after she left Big Machine. She signed with the only one that would agree to change their policy regarding artists masters. I forgot what she demanded. It was something like every artist has to get an opportunity to buy back their masters. You can look up all the things she has done to change the music industry before she turned 30. Look up her S. Assault court case too. It was very interesting.

Taylor Swift is so strong and she didn't have a melt down when entertainment industry was trying to drag her down like it did to several singers. She might had anxiety but she never looked like she was in the deep depression when the whole world was against her.
She disappeared to England for an entire year after this all happened. She rented a huge manor somewhere hidden and took along only her closest of friends for vacations, she unplugged and took herself out of the narrative for her sanity. I can't admire her more, she went with Joe and a few of her writing friends came in and out and she just took time to relax and write her new music for evermore, midnights, and probably a dozen or so tracks are still vaulted waiting for the right time.

That's why we read contract terms carefully before signing. Taylor may had been young and made a rash decision but it's good that she's fighting back. I'm on her side.
You don’t have to be young to not read contract terms properly. Many are written in a way to confuse. And a lot of grown adults and elders fall prey to negative business tactics this way. Her example of intelligently outwitting her adversaries is a great lesson for all ages.
Executives should also be fair...they already made a whole lot of money off her why not allow her buy back her rights for a fair amount.

I'm old-school.... Rock'n'Roll, Soul, Disco, Rock and I don't know any of today's music or singers. I don't know Jack about Taylor Swift or her music but I'm awfully ecstatic that this young singer didn't let creeps, ghouls, parasites and users get over at her expense. I hope she hired an attorney to look over each and EVERY contract she receives before she signs anything. A good attorney is what she needs to go over contracts before she signs them.

Until the story of the rerecordings came out, I didn't even realize that was a feasible way to claim/reclaim ownership of ones music... It's gotta be a real pain doing it all over again but man, what a BA move which also happened to work out pretty well financially!

Perhaps she can invest in her own promotion company and only agree to play in venues that will sell tickets from HER ticket outlets. Maybe smaller venues, requiring additional shows, but at least she will be in control of how, when, and where.
