- This was not an ordinairy flight!
Very exciting to get a failing gps sensor at 30km out and 4km altitude!
This is the first time a Pitlab part failed on me. i wouldt blame Pitlab because the flightcontroller is around 6 or 7 years years old i believe and it made lots and lots of hours probably a 1000 hours or so.
Keep in mind this is al CGI so not real! This is not allowed to do in real live. We mixed some real shots with artificial shots.
That's when them pilot skills kick in - congrats on a successful recovery!
Exactly! Experience is the only thing in a situation like this that will you out
I had this happen once at 6km out but 50km is a true brown underpants moment!! Glad you got it back
Yep but 6km in an unknown area feels may farther away than this event haha.
Thanks im also glad i would be really upset if i loose this plane. Everything will fail one day...
I'm glad it made it home! I had a GPS failure at 5 miles out, but fortunately, I knew the area well and didn't need it.
Thank me too i love this plane! 5 miles is alo far when you dont know where it is. Glad you got it back
I love this CGI! Best CGI I have ever seen! Very good visual artists and digital pilots ;-)!
@adakcelina it takes months to process this in cgi holy mother of the digital area
Good Job bringing it home after a failure. I had a similar incident recently losing a motor in flight, but since it's a twin made it back from 5km away. it happened at the worst moment, as I was pretty low alt, and motor with ESC became dislodged, and dangling from wires. also took out flap link on same side, so flap was in up position on the dead side. plane flew remarkably well.
You need to post more often man I’m a subscriber of yours i hate how little you upload i watched that video you mentioned
We got some adventures some times! Staying calm will save use most of the times! I did a landing on 8km out a while ago. Put a smaller liion pack in than my head was thinking haha
@@skyforce1983 who are you talking to?
@@itsnotme1295 @fpvreviews
@@skyforce1983 ow weird 😂😂🤞
There's something to be said about flying on and in a familiar terrain... it can make all the difference in the world!! Glad you didn't lost you bird man!!
Absolutely right! Its not "if" it happens but "when"!
RC and private pilot here. This was very risky, not just to you losing your plane, but to other small aircraft as well. Hitting your RC in flight is like a bird strike, and could lead to very bad consequences and possible loss of life. PLEASE do not fly like this. I'm not sure what country you are in, but your local air traffic control might work with you if you put a transponder on it so they can track where you are. You probably need a flight plan. There are better ways to do this, my friend.
Dad/Pilot hat aside, it is very impressive you were able to go so far with that little thing. Ignoring the safety aspect, that was very cool on a technological level.
Thank we use a transponder and we have contact with the control tower non stop and a whole team is monitoring the manned flights in this area. We arent allowed to do this on days the airforce practice because they fly incognito we dont want to risk any lives. Those flights are planned and licensed as any other manned flights. We are doing many unmanned aircraft flights, experiments and development.
I dont share any results or details to protect my company and to prevent others to this in an uncontrolled manner. We have some more safety features i dont want to share.
Many thanks i love to do this but theres nothing better than flying in person.
Holy crap, this is really scary. It happened to me a few months ago when I triggered the return home feature and suddenly all the satellites disappeared. On that occasion, I was using iNav, and the plane initiated an emergency landing. I noticed the problem and I could assume the control again. After that, I never flew the plane without assistance again.
Ow crap and you knew where you were flying?
@@itsnotme1295 I flew sometimes in that area but at that altitude was really difficult to know exactly where I was. Fortunately after some minutes my gps came back and I could confirm where I was.
@@ericogr oww you were lucky then!
Pardon my ignorance. How does one avoid a mid-air with an aircraft with people aboard.
The description says some parts are cgi (unreal) 😉
That’s a really good question. As a LR-UAV pilot and Fixed wing pilot myself, The chances are one in a million if not more. Good pilots will have plans set up for if they have eyesight of traffic, others will also use FlightRadar24 along with their own telemetry and have another person on their laptop monitoring both. Some systems can have that option as an add on. Then there are those that are just plain ignorant of the whole idea that safety is a top priority. But we do our best to ensure mistakes like that don’t happen.
Answer. You don’t. It’s illegal I understand to fly drones at altitude for that reason.
you stay under 400ft and avoid airports
Its really a 4S 40k mAh battery?! Lipo or Li-ion? Link? Or is it a homebuilt pack?
What kind of range do you get out of something like that?
What's your personal best for distance so far? And what was the limiting factor? battery? video? Comms/Telemetry?
Awesome flight!
I combine different sizes pack all home build and connect them al in parallel. Biggest pack i got is a 4s 30000mah. The max i flown it with is 4s 60.000mah. 4s 30.000mah pack a 4s 15.000 a 4s 10000mah and a 5000mah all together.
Personal record with this plane is 110km out, 300km ground covered and i believe 4,5 hours flighttime easy.
The big brother Crosswind Nimbus pro carry around 75.000mah so far and did 117 km out and i believe 5 hours 400km ground covered. Im pretty confident he can do 150km out and 6,5 hours flying. Im building my way up so i find new problems on time when flying so long and so far like flightcontrollers that freaked out because of long runtimes and out of video range enz. Enz.
Limiting factor? Fear man it got me every time thats why im slowly pushing it farther out every flight. 🙈
All flown with Crossfire mainly on 1 watt! Soon i need 2 watts...
Crossfire is better then Dragonlink these days some laugh about that but come on the proof is here.
Thanks man! I think soon im gonna share some more distance stuff 🤞😎
Hi, I hope you will still read this message..
What you did is awesome, and I would be completely lost in that situation 👍
I was wondering how do you still have signal 30km away from it, and I also saw you said you thought about going 100km away. How can you keep connection between your controller (and your computer) to the plane ? Are they connected via two antennas (one in the plane and one with you) ? Hope you will see this !
@clems2828 Thanks, man. It's a unique hobby that you have to build up with. You can't just send it, hehe.
Yep, I still have control all the way. The biggest safety (the gps) failed on me. If i loose connection after the gps is gone, im screwed. I know my setup and stuff it is well prooven. So, a failing component is a very rare occasion, and that's why i can do this stuff.
Dude, if you like this, you got to learn to fly a plane 😎
I did 122.7km at some point. It's crazy what technology is able to do these days.
Technically, there are 4 antenna's. 1 transmitting for the controls. 1 receiving on the plane for controls and the same for video 😎 The range is all in the antenna's 🫡
I also expect a reply from you 😋
In 30 to 40 years, when I'm 94 to 104, I'll quit flying big-boy toys and fly kid toys.
You are clearly a good pilot! Good pilots knows where you are flying, how does you plane performs!!
Thanks man! Absolutely right Never loose sight of where you've been flying! But if there was a layer of clouds i was screwed 😅
@@itsnotme1295 You made home just fine!! Do you know why the gps failed??
@@EduardoFritisRealtor that's the most important! Nope still dont know for sure but i blame the cold
@@itsnotme1295 Cool!
Another impressive flight
Thanks man!
What FC software setup are you using? Inav? Ardupilot?
Good to see it worked out in the end for you!
What are some specs of the build?
Like airframe, analog vtx, antennas, esc, fc, motor size, weight, wingspan, etc. Its a cool plane for sure!
Thanks!
im sorry man somehow i didnt get notifications
bro could you share what electronics did you use on this plane, please?
Hi, What you you mean that this is CGI ?
what parts are CGI ?
What is the VTX and the Antenna and the Receiver and Antenna that you are using ?
Please share some details of your setup !
for some reason I thought your crosswind mini was a 6s setup. interesting that you're using a 4s setup , do you mind sharing your motor , prop and esc , with the rest of us ? thanks
Nope. There's no difference in efficiency and 4s is more versatile. My big Crosswind got 600kv motors on 4s with 12x10 props instead of 12 amps on 1000kv he's cruising on 7.5 amps right know.
Crosswind Mini got aikon 30a sefm esc's.
MFD Mytwindream 800kv 2814 motors. (it is really the model of the motor)
And 10x6 apc props.
@@itsnotme1295 👍 thanks
damn, thats scary, was not a cable fault or so? gps just no longer worked no matter what?
now we need dual gps, just in case...
Sorry for teh late answer mate. yep gps module died. I think it was way too cold for the old module
the magnetometer failed with the GPS module. if you still had mag would it have helped you?
I could enable it in flight but didn't need it luckily 😎
Nice flight 👍 so you think the gps died with cold?
My best guess mate! Not sure bit it survived years of flying and after minus 20 it suddenly failed so who knows?
what is the temperature sensor being used?
3 legged one from Pitlab. Not sure about the exact component thats used
Bravo.perfect
Nice Geo Engineering lines in the sky
hi clasicdemott, have you become a flat earther yet? If not I suggest viewing the 13 part series _what on earth happened_ in my about to learn how the earth is not a globe
have you thought about using dual mag or GPS since this failure?
Yep but no idea how in my setup
Dang that’s scary
Dude! My thoughts at the farthest point out were to push it to 100km because the wind conditions were great.
Can you imagine?
@@itsnotme1295 I mean the fact you got it back is a small miracle by itself 😆
@@matejbludsky8410 yep 🤞😁
interesting story
Bottom line: flights are illegal in the USA.
@@BrjanBuckmaster yep thats why its all made with cgi. It will be stupid to do this
@ It was not done with cgi and you are correct that it was stupid to do this as well as post it publicly.
You dont want to share rest of flight because of society?...I to fly distances to but i don't go that high, anywonder our hobby is under scrutiny, thats stupidity posting this you will get done like wesly did.
You didnt read the description did you?
Because of people like you the hobby is screwed
