DIY Install Fiamma DJ200 Bike Rack On Winnebago Travato 59K

  • Looking back we wish we had made sure our 2019 Winnabego Travato 59K had a factory installed bike rack on it. But although it had a ladder and roof rack on it it did not have the bike rack.
    We have taken our bikes a few times and have always wished for the real bike rack. We have hung the bikes from the ladder and although that worked ok it was awkward to put them on and they actually hung over the side of the van making the van wider than necessary. We also had a nice two bike carrier that fit in the receiver hitch of the van. Ain’t worked great except it made it impossible to get the back door open without taking the rack off. And it made the van 23 1/2 feet long instead of 21 feet. That extra length made it harder to find parking and after getting used to being able to park anywhere we decided we did not want to have bikes over being more nimble and shorter. I've been looking at this rack for a while but thought I would have to drill holes. Now I see you don't have to so great. Thanks for the video - you guys are great.

      It’s a great rack, it came package really well. It’s also very sturdy, we carried our spare tire on it when we went to Alaska.

      @@VANTREKKINGlifestyle I am also wondering why you didn't drill into the doors to secure the rack as required in the instrructions and due to that did you have had any wear on the doors like around those clamps or any sort of stability issuess? I am looking into this rack as well for my Promaster conversion and would even only bring one bike. Thule makes one similar but they only sell it in black color in the USA and my van is white too. Also you have to use adhesive that will never come off again. Thanks.

      I reached out to Fiama... holes drilled only if you want to the anti-theft feature. It stays in place perfectly without the holes in the van. There was no noticeable wear and tear on the door. It was more difficult to close each time but that was due to the weight and having to reach inside the rack for the handle.

      I depends on your bike height, and if you have bags and if you put a cover on it. We could still see to back up even though we saw the bikes too. But being able to see the bikes while rolling gives peace of mind too. Email me back at VanTrekkingLifestyle@gmail.com if you have other questions. Sometimes questions in replies get missed and buried here.

      Third night and. I reservations so far and we have been just fine. Of course two of the nights have been at the Cracker Barrel Resort :-). But that was by choice. We have decided to stay at parks when we need the entire day or next day to bike, hike or paddle. Since we are just meandering south we found Cracker Barrel in the van to be perfect.

    Good Video. Can I ask why you chose this rack over the Winni factory rack or others?open up the rear doors with the rack on with or without the bikes loaded?

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle
      @VANTREKKINGlifestyle  5 років тому

      Our van did not come with a bike rack and at the time we were not able to order on from the factory. We did the research and this rack seamed like the best option. It has worked out very well. The door does open with or without the bikes loaded. I hope this answers your question.

      VAN TREKKING lifestyle Thanks. Had the T for almost 3 years now. Hey do you bring your L2fish with your Travato? I actually found your channel because I am planning to get an L2 but I'm stuck on how to bring it along with the van. It sure will fit inside it sideways but it basically blocks any movement inside.

      That is awesome. We actually only rented the L2Fish and we didn’t end up buying one because it is so big to transport. We ended up with two inflatable BOTE SUPs. They fit in lots of places. Wish I could help. Glad you found the channel though.

      No the handlebars do not hit the van. But, the mirror for one bike does. We had to start using removable mirrors. Only issue with that is remembering to put the mirror on before out and the first car goes by you. :-)

    Does this bike rack require you to drill holes into the van door?

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle
      @VANTREKKINGlifestyle  4 роки тому +1

      No, you don’t have to drill holes into the door. You can for extra security but we opted not to. I will say we carried a spare tire in part of the bike rack with n problems, so I really don’t think it’s needed.

      VAN TREKKING lifestyle thanks so much for the speedy reply. Of all the bike racks I’ve researched, this one seems to be the sturdiest but I wasn’t sure I had the fortitude to drill holes in the door.

    • @VANTREKKINGlifestyle
      @VANTREKKINGlifestyle  4 роки тому +1

      I totally understand we didn’t want to drill holes either. The bike rack has worked flawlessly and is very sturdy. It does cost a little more, but I do think in this case you get what you pay for and it is well worth the money and the piece of mind.
