  • This walking tour of PARIS CATACOMBS was filmed on Saturday July 19th, 2020 starting at 9:55 AM. I was the first person to enter the Catacombs on the morning of this walk and was down there alone the entire time. For the best experience, be sure to turn on closed captions [CC] and wear headphones 🎧 as you watch this tour.

    I wouldn’t work in the catacombs. It’s a dead end job. No future in it, and a grave situation to find yourself in, though it is very down to earth employment but a lot of skullduggery goes into getting a job there. The employers can only afford a skeleton crew to look after the place. It’s hell to work there so I’m told and it remains a bone of contention to keep the place open.

    New subscriber here. I was reading online about the man who dives and maps the sunken parts of the catacombs. I decided to check here for videos of the ossuary and here you are. I appreciate seeing it as I don’t think I would be able to go under the ground myself, being more than a tad bit claustrophobic. The walking tour, even with the bones, isn’t as scary as the people who enter illegally from the streets. There is a video of people crawling down narrow ladders and through small holes. I nearly had a panic attack just watching that. Nope, nope, nope.

    The Catacombs are a grim reminder of the Latin phrase "Memento mori." ("Remember that you will die.") Each one of those skulls belonged to a human being, one whose life was every bit as real as ours. All their dreams, hopes, and experiences, gone. And whether we end up buried, cremated, or otherwise disposed of this is ultimately the fate of every one of us.

    Have heard it's so dark you can't see your hand in front of your face. Since Paris is short on green space, maybe a park over the catacombs. What do I know, that could collapse as well. Thanks, Isaac!

    • @Hodoss
      @Hodoss 3 роки тому +1

      The catacombs are a huge maze under the city, so there’s probably parks above part of them.
      Some buildings have an access to the catacombs, as an escape route and to discretely go from one building to the other.

    • @quirkyquips9915

      @@Hodoss Thanks for giving me more information about the catacombs. I'd seen a couple of videos that told of illegal entry, people never seen again type of thing but you never know if it's true or not. I'd seen a couple of urbex videos and can say for certain, their disregard for the plundering they do on the first-ever I'd seen made me not want to be a part of that. I've never understood the destruction of vandals. Apparently, there ARE some that are quite reverent, taking gentle care, filling in blanks to a story. Europeans are in that category while I don't claim Americans. My first time seeing an Italian exploration within a huge Estate's walls, I was shocked by the difference of the pillage in England, the US and Italy. It didn't go w/o my seeing the scattering of what I believed to be spirits. It was as if they'd been sitting on the couches, heard sounds of the people & were frightened. I am not into EVP, so called ghost hunting in the "dead" hour as I know the veil between the Spirit realm is thinner than we know. Just as there are evil & good in this world, so too in the past.
      Did you know the state of Texas is larger than the entire country of Italy? And many a cowboy came from Ireland? Alrighty, then. The people you meet in the catacombs on a walk with Isaac!
      Peace be with you. 🍃🕊🍃

      @Hodoss 3 роки тому +1

      @@quirkyquips9915 Thanks! The Paris catacombs being a huge maze, there is a danger of getting lost and dying like that.
      There is an underground society called "les UX" who dwell in the catacombs, their stated mission being preserving the forgotten parts of our history. There are videos about them and their shenanigans, it’s quite fun.
      I also suggest the video of Amy’s Crypt exploring the catacombs, she’s respectful, mysterious atmosphere as she’s into spiritism, but she also gives historical facts.
      And I know there’s a horror movie set in the catacombs, As Above So Below I think is the name, haven’t watched it yet so I can’t tell if it’s any good.

      lol..no :) I was pretty excited that no one was there. Even better for the video! I had been once before in 2010. When I took my first trip to Europe before I got this job, the Catacombs was number 1 on my list of places to see.

  • @trader2137
    @trader2137 3 роки тому +1

    Bodies were exhumed and the bones were moved to the Catacombs in 1786.[4] Many bodies had incompletely decomposed and had reduced into large deposits of fat ("corpse wax", or adipocere), chiefly in the form of palmitic acid.[5] During the exhumation, this fat was collected and subsequently turned into candles and soap.

    Maybe some of the people who "govern" us should take a walk through these catacombs,
    It is rather sobering and possibly humbling..it might actually make them
    less ego centric...............Nah!
    I guess the guards might have a bone to pick "from" you:)
    At one time there were so many mummies found in Egypt that the were ground up and made into :)
    "mummy" paint... just a idea👀
    A night guard at the Museum of Art in New York City said it was time to quit when the statues or paintings started to move or talk to you,
    however, you were able to show just how quiet the Catacombs really are.
    Do the Skulls speak when there is no one there to hear them? Zen time.
    Cheers,
    Rik Spector
