I’m glad you brought up the need to keep exhaust fumes, etc., out of the conditioned space above. This is my situation. Even though no one lives above the garage, the roof decking is sprayed, making it part of the conditioned space (along with the living space). So, the garage ceiling needed spray foam (on the attic side), to keep exhaust fumes, heat, etc. from rising from the garage, into the conditioned attic space.

I’m going to have a finished room above the garage. Great information, thank you for covering this.

Great breakdown. Very important to also protect against radon and other gases.

I am thinking closed cell in the main level, blown in cellulose in the attic and rolls of craft faced itchy insulation in the basement. Going for a mix of cost effective and necessity. Is there a flaw in doing the way I highlighted

If I keep all ductwork out of the attic, by using mini split heat/ac units in the living space, can I then spray foam the back side of the ceiling drywall? Or is it still better to foam the under side of the roof sheeting in the attic?

Very nice video, a bit confused though. Are you essentially creating a spray foam sandwich, where there is spray foam on the bottom of the floor above, then empty space between the joists then sheeting and more spray foam? Are you saying condensation would form if you didn't do the second layer on top of the sheathing? I am looking to build this house design (integritybuilt.com/uploads/2021/05/27/homestead-with-loft-fp-2021.png), with a loft above the garage, no pipes of anything between the joists (possible hvac runs to the front, but they would be up in the loft sides as I plan on doing a conditioned attic non-vented roof). I plan on spraying the whole house, and then spray from the inside all of the garage on all sides + underside of the floor for the loft, but sounds like there may be issues with that plan? Should I be planning instead of this sandwich approach. I was really hoping to fit a 10' lift in the garage with 10' sealings, so that would change my plans somewhat. Thanks for all your videos, love every one of em!
