10 Marvel Comics Runs You Should Read!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 сер 2024
- Today I've compiled a list of Marvel Comics runs you should be reading! Invinicble Iron Man by Matt Fraction, The Thing by John Byrne, Captain America by Ta-nehisi Coates, and mant more! The point of this list video is not to give the top tier recommendations all comic fans are giving, but to give recommendations that are perhaps a little bit off the beaten path, these are still solid runs--in my opinion--but they perhaps do not get the discussion some more popular "it books" are getting today.
This is my list, but what would be on yours? Let me know in the comments and thank you for watching TheComicBookReport!

What are some of your favorite Marvel runs that not everyone recommends? 🤔📚
Nocenti’s daredevil
@@diegocorrea9327 hoping we get Nocenti Daredevil omnibuses someday
Mark Gruenwald's Quasar. It's the perfect entry for anyone wanting a human perspective towards the wider Cosmic events of the m galaxy. Quasar is someone whom I think anyone can relate to. Especially with his self doubt
@@amanzeihedioha thanks for the recommendation sounds really good
@@TheComicBookReport No prob🫡
Soule’s Daredevil is super underrated
Such a great one! Daredevil has so many incredible runs
Really love that this list has so many truly under appreciated titles and not the same old list of best Marvel runs!
I’m so happy you liked the content!
Yeah I was really hoping for a list of solid runs that were worth recommending but maybe not the same 10-20 books from the top tier that everyone (including myself ha) have talked about over and again 😂👏
What would you add to the list? 📚📚📚
Thank you. I am currently subscribed to Marvel Unlimited and don't really know where to start. I couldn't afford much comics as a kid but I read a couple of issues of Mutant X and Exiles and was glad I could finally read the entire run from start to end. I've also started reading the Star Wars runs available on there for me to read.
Oh awesome! Yeah that’s a fantastic way to read :)
I thoroughly enjoyed Jason Aaron’s run on Star Wars. If you haven’t read that yet, it’s definitely one I’d recommend
Love that you spoke about some off-beat titles! It's great to get a fresh new perspective, and some great reccomendations for a not-so-new reader! Keep 'em coming!
Thank you! Yeah I feel like sometimes it’s easy to recommend the heavy-hitters/ the absolute classics, but I was trying to focus on a guess the second-tier but still solid reads 😁
Thanks for watching!
Any recommendations you’d throw on the list? 📚📚📚
This was a good list. Usually when I see one of these lists that claim to list must reads it's pretty much a list of everyone's must reads. Basically, you understood the assignment.
You are right, one or two of these such as Wolverine and the X-Men were massive in their time, but really dropped off since.
I'm glad you brought up the fraction run or Fantastic Four. I was wondering about that. As much love as the Waid run gets, it was the runs between his and Hickman's that I loved more, and most have a negative reception of them. I'm glad you said a good word about Fraction's run because I'm about to start it after the amazing Hickman run.
I appreciate you want back to a few pre-avengers Disassembled runs.
It's funny you kind of hit on my problem getting into Marvel comics that is a little easier for DC. After Avengers Dissassembled you have to follow the Avengers comics, the crossover events, and a few runs here to underatand the status quo. Makes it hard to pick up comics from that era onwards. DC has the same problem, but they reset their universe enough times that there are easy points of entry dotted through their history, even after Infinite Crisis.
Thoroughly appreciate you for taking the time to comment! And glad you enjoyed the content :) overall I just wanted to provide more recommendations for solid runs that weren’t maybe the greatest of all time recommendations I see everywhere (and which I also give on occasion ha).
This was a very fun video to put together!
And yeah, I thoroughly enjoyed that Fraction Fantastic Four/FF era. I had heard so many mixed to negative reviews but found a great deal on the omnibus and I love the writer and artists and that property so I wanted to check it out for myself and I’m so happy I did. I think if it didn’t come right after that amazing Hickman epic of a run more people probably would have looked upon it more favorably. That’s my thought anyway.
Another really great video - really good idea, thanks. Some really interesting picks. Have almost all of these on the TBR pile but that Rucka Wolverine looks interesting. I agree wholeheartedly about Fraction and I know this isn’t a popular shout but I really liked his run on X-Men. I’d also recommend Stern/Byrne on Cap - short but very entertaining and lifted a moribund title at the time and Moench & Zeck & Day on Master of Kung Fu. Gulacy was great, but the title really elevated further when these guys took over the art.
I’d really like to read more of fraction’s X-men I reallly enjoyed what I read once upon a time!
And I’m not sure I’ve read any of your recommendations but may need to look into them :) particularly that Cap run 💪📚
@@TheComicBookReport easily available in Epic Collection no 9. Get some DeMatteis/Zeck in there as well so plenty of bang for your buck.
@@garyfoster65 appreciate that :) thank you!
Nice list. Haven’t read most of them. Currently I’m reading the Howard the Duck by Chip omnibus and thinking of buying Cap by Coates. The runs I really like is Vision by Tom King and Punisher Max by Garth Ennis.
Nice! I really want to read the at Vision book!
Hope you enjoy Howard the Duck, loved that run 👏📚
You gonna do a DC video like this right??
And can you do like an Image/IDW one too??
Love your content as always ❤
Thanks so much for the encouragement!
Would love to tackles some of those video concepts in the future for sure. Stay tuned.
Totally agree with these!
Right on! 💯
Any you’d recommend? 📚📚📚
@@TheComicBookReport soooo many, I think I made a video on this but if not I should haha
@@Illuminerdy_ YES
Duggan on Deadpool was highly regarded for a while, but somehow no one talks about this hilarious and emotional run anymore. Costs on Black Panther is actually a trilogy of a political thriller, a fantasy book about gods and a Sci fi epic. Not my favorite book ever, but great! And venom by Rick Remender is still my favorite run EVER and few people talk about that. The first half of it just came out in a modern epic collections a few months ago, with the other half coming in January.
These are all runs I’ve wanted to read but have yet to check out! Now that you’re recommending them I really need to get more serious about trying to get copies ha
I’m glad you talked about wolverine by Rucka that was my first wolverine run when I was kid it blew my mind
I’ll never forget that first issue just incredible. Really hoping this run gets a reprint or maybe a proper hardcover eventually
@@TheComicBookReport me too I loved that book and if your in tik tok I’ll give you a shout out I make little comic moments and I’ll have to make that one issue
@@Romezguide I should be somewhere on TikTok! Thanks :)
@@TheComicBookReport I’ll go and follow you I have a bigger following on there than here 😁
@@Romezguide right on! Thanks. Mine is a little dormant at present 😂
Can only juggle so much social media with my current responsibilities
I think Dan Jurgens Thor is pretty slept on.
I appreciate the recommendation. I haven’t read that yet.
Since you’re such a big Marvel fan, what are some character-writer runs you’d like to see that *haven’t happened yet?* (By “character-writer,” I mean Daredevil by Bendis, or Spider-Man by Dan Slott).
Great question!
I’ll need to give this more thought.
Fantastic Four by Geoff Johns
Guardians of the Galaxy Jonathan Hickman
Daredevil Tom King
Silver Surfer by Jonathan Hickman or James Tynion IV
You??
Spider-Man by Joshua Williamson is the one I’d like to see the most.
Considering he wrote “Freedom Fighters” for DC (which is full of Nazi-punching) Robert Venditti seems like a safe pick for Captain America.
I’d like to see Peter Tomasi handle F4 or the Avengers. I always thought he was one of DC’s most-underrated writers.
Love your picks for Daredevil and Silver Surfer.
@@jakebeninato9938 I would honestly check out all of these if they happened. Williamson Spidey would be an absolute get!
What a great question
How do you physically read something as big as these omibus books? I thought the Ron Garney art in the Soule Daredevil run was perfect. Loved it.
Agreed gorgeous art 👏👏
And that’s a great question haha. People do different things but I almost always read on my side in bed having the book flat on the bed, I’ll also sometimes read on a desk but yeah can almost never comfortable hold on me to read 😂
Still gotta check out Daredevil by Soule 👀
Yeah it a fun one man great art style too
Well, I can't really see Wolverine and the X-Men as something you should read to the very end but yeah it's a good entry point for anyone wanting to read the X-Men but doesn't want to jump into the many complicated storylines.
Fair enough 👏📚
I accidentally bought two copies of DAREDEVIL by Charles Soule Omnibus and I still the extra one in shrink wrap. Been meaning to sell it. Let me know if you are interested in upgrading. I won't upsell you, will sale for cover price if interested?
Wow! Can’t tell you how much I appreciate the offer! Unfortunately my comic budget is spoken for for the foreseeable future 😅
Hope you can get a great sale for it though, thanks again for the incredible offer but I will need to pass this time. 📚
Review the iron man run and wolverine run please 🙏🏽
Appreciate the feedback! :)
Stay tuned 📚
Punisher Max and Marvel knights. Soule’s, Brubaker’s and Zdarsky’s DD. I am currently enjoying the Supreme power tpb’s wich are very good. Soule’s Darth Vader was also awsome. 🤩
Appreciate all your recommendations man! And I’ve never checked out Supreme Power 🤔📚👏
@@TheComicBookReportGreat read. It’s in the Max line so more adult content with more violence and realism. But I can really recommend it, Dominick.
@@benupc thanks for the tip man :)
What were your thoughts on the New Mutants movie?
Was not for me. It was cool to see some of the characters adapted but the movie just didn’t really work for me. Couple scenes I did enjoy.
You?
Valid. I watched it twice before I actually liked it
@@jadecasssie yeah and again there were some really rad scenes I thought but it just wasn’t totally there for me personally, or maybe I just hoped for a bit more? Idk.
Ta-nashi Coates run was good run but the last few issues felt like they derailed on how good it was
I think that’s fair. I personally still enjoyed the ride. Thank you for your feedback though :)
Great to hear from some other readers on that one!
@@TheComicBookReport did you read the annual that came with it I think as a cap fan he has a really great speech in that one
@@Romezguide if it was in this omnibus I read it! If it’s the issue I think you’re referring to it’s incredible
@@TheComicBookReport yeah it was about the man who services the community and about appreciating people for what they do?? Idk if this had it
@@Romezguide the issue I’m thinking about had a man who initially worked at a diner who befriended Steve? Very wholesome great issue not sure if that’s the same one or not
