  • In this Cesar911 Episode, I help a family who has gone through a recent heartbreaking event.
    Leon, the family's dog, has developed aggressive behavior and has even bit someone.
    If Cesar can't help solve this problem, Animal Control may be called in.
    This episode focuses on holding onto the past and how our feelings and emotions can affect our dogs.

      It's crossed with a chow and they can be very aggressive however, I have known a couple of Golden's who have been/are aggressive. The first was the dog of the tenants who lived above us many years ago - not a friendly dog at all. Only the husband could walk him because he was so aggressive. The second is my SiL's Golden. Not as aggressive as the first one I mentioned but a bit growly at times. Personally, I'm not that impressed with this breed's personality.

      @@crisgard oh, Preach! I can't walk my dog in either direction away from my house because there are large unleashed dogs that run out into the road to challenge me and my dog.
      He is a large dominant breed male and, while he is super chill and doesn't challenge other dogs, he would actually actually rather play, he with be bullied.
      As a 63 year old woman with not great knees and hips, I can't control a situation like that should it go south.
      It's a shame, I would love to be able to walk him without having to put him in the car and driving someplace else.
      But, I have ordered some bear spray that I am going to try, given that the wind is favorable.
      If I can spray it ahead of us 15 or 20 yards, it should smell strongly enough that the dogs won't want to go out in the road to investigate. At least, that is my hope

    • @chti341
      @chti341 3 роки тому +4

      Yeah but instead of projecting all their fear and sense of loss on the dog, they can also make the best out of the situation and become stronger in the process with the dog by showing him he's taken care of, doesn't need to worry and enjoy life again together. When they get through the process and professional training they'll grow together as friends and family even more.

    • @ksc743

      This is a really tough situation for all of them. The family for their loss, and Cesar to try and correct an aggressive dog who's already bitten someone and the owners have received a warning that if Leon bites someone again he will be taken away.
      I can only imagine her anxiety. I love dogs and have rescued many in my life but a dog that's aggressive towards humans I have never dealt with. Correcting him before he attacks is all well and good but what about the one time you correct him a moment too late. It really is a dangerous situation. Not that Leon goes in for the kill otherwise he would have drawn blood. He nips rather than bites, but it's still a very tricky problem to solve.
      I would definitely muzzle him. For my piece of mind, and others. But I know that's not the answer.

I’ve learned more as I’ve aged…I’m now 70…but what I learned from him has given me wonderful relationships with all the dogs who’ve lived with me over my life. Owner needs to correct her behaviour, dogs mimic their owners behaviour. An anxious owner that isn't the pack leader is what leads to an out of control dog. I hope this lady understands now what it takes to be the pack leader. Daily 30 minute long drops are important for this dog. The correct collar and lead are also important, the collar must always be positioned high around the throat of the dog,not the lower neck. No constant tightness pulling of the lead, just q quick jolt of the lead and only after a one word command fails. All commands must be one word only. No patting the dog or showing it any affection until the animals behaviour has been corrected ( which could take weeks or months ).

    It isn't the question, Cesar, the question is "can I change the OWNER to be more assertive and take charge of their dog? I see people actually petting their dog, saying sweetly "oh, you shouldn't do that", while they continue to pet--encouraging, the dog.

    I'll say it once, and I'll say it again. It's never the dogs fault, it's always the owners. The woman shouldn't be walking the dog period , if she can't control the dog with pure strength, and if she can't keep herself calm, then the dog despite ALL the training you give them will NEVER change.
    If you're afraid to get your hands dirty while walking a dog, stopping them, touching them, telling them to sit ect ect then you shouldn't own a dog period.

    • @lisahinton9682

      @Not Leviathan So well said! Absolutely if a dog is acting out, it's ALWAYS the fault of the human. This woman is a JOKE. And her ball-less boyfriend should be ashamed of himself.
      By the way, it is "etc.", not "ect." The way you can remember is that this is an abbreviation of the Latin "et cetera" or "and others". So to shorten it, it is "etc." or in the old days, "&c.", which I loved. But that was in my last life, and that cool abbreviation has gone by the wayside.

      Grieving is a process. Some people just don't get through a traumatic loss instantly or all at once, it takes time for most people, and even then you never truly get over the thought of losing someone who's been in your life for so long. She probably should have resolved her issues a bit before taking on the responsibility of taking care of her best friend's dog without using it as a crutch for her feelings, but she's at least proactive with this situation by getting help from Ceasar. She didn't just give up, so I give her kudos for that.

    • @oangst9900
      @oangst9900 3 роки тому +16

      @@stancooksj I'm not criticizing her for grieving, I only suggested she needs professional help. Cesar can help her only so much, to understand the dog and human relationship. I can't remember which episode it was but there was another one where a lady had adopted a dog and was projecting her emotional experience onto the dog, Cesar just couldn't get through to her, there was no issues with the dog but as soon as she was handling it the dog would take over because she was the weaker one in the two. So Cesar made sure to introduce her to a holistic psychiatrist or something, that really helped her and she started to work on herself and her issues which made her bond woth the dog better and control it.

    • @stancooksj
      @stancooksj 3 роки тому +14

      @@oangst9900 I understand what you're saying and I know you aren't criticizing her grief process, but she's actively seeking help that's the point I'm making. Who's to say that this situation won't lead to more help for her in the future? Like the example you gave, some people just need to hear these things from an outside source. Cesar also helps people realize that they're the issue and he also shows WHY they are they issue too. So indirectly, she is getting help for herself, she's trying to be a better owner which in turn will make her a better person. You don't necessarily need psychiatric help to achieve this goal.

    • @jefflambricks
      @jefflambricks 3 роки тому +7

      Yup. The correction is meaningless if you don’t give the right kind of energy to allow the behavior you want or the pathway to allow the dog to move on.
      You communicate with a dog with your energy.

    • @markfuller
      @markfuller 3 роки тому +7

      I liken it to speaking to a hearing impaired person. Raising your voice isn't "yelling & screaming" at them. It's just so they can hear you. Cesar says many times in the Dog Whisperer series (which is better than 911, imo. more informative, less entertainment) that the correction's intensity matches a dog's intensity (level 3 versus level 8 red zone). But, there's never any impatience/frustration/anger. Turning up the intensity to match the dog's, so you can be heard, is just that. It's the same concept as the 1-10 dial on a vibration collar. Some dogs only need 3. Others need 8. There is no "attitude" involved in dialing it up to 8. No anger or frustration. It's just what the dog needs to hear your communication.

    • @kingwillie206
      @kingwillie206 2 роки тому +1

      It’s a lot more than that. Nothing short of a sufficient distraction and redirecting will get the job done, especially if the dog and the person handling them don’t have a bond. Obedience comes before behavioral correction.

I tried to reduce all the pups but he was the only one out of 7 pups to make it. He just turned a year old Feb 6th. Hes always been hyper and gradually started getting aggressive towards other people and animals. I now can't introduce him to anyone new because of this getting worse. He has almost bit another person the other day and I'm terrified of this. He is a very big and strong dog and is very lovable to the ones he already knows. I suffer from major mental illness and have lost my job and home. Because of him getting like this we have lost several places that we can stay and I can't take him out to walk or to a park anywhere were there is other people or dogs. I am lost at what I can do and have no money to do anything. I can't work right now because I have nowhere he can go without me being with him because of this aggression. I can't loose him because he is the only one I have now and it would totally deviate me. Shoot it deviates me just to even think about it. I have gone into a bad depression with all of this happening. Anyone know of anything I can do or anyone that could help?
