@@gerrymcveigh when were you up? We left the stone in a gap in the wall at our campsite in the forest across from the ice House, just weird to see it moved. Where did you see it as I was up today n didn't come across it.
Simon, I was up at the start of November and it wasn't too far from where you left it - it was at the information board at the last bridge just before heading out of the forest.
Stunning and mesmerised by the broke spectre. Never heard or knew about this until i started watching hiking videos and hope one day i'll be blessed to witness it for real :) beautiful video all around
Cheers Alexandra👍 It is pretty special to be above the mist and have the sun cast your shadow with those rainbow colours. I have only experienced it a few times and it was very special to have captured it on film. That was a stunning trip with all the cloud inversions👍 Hopefully you will get to experience it too👍
Brilliant ! You must have spent a lot of time just filming never mind the walking and then the editing……..! Thanks for sharing this. I once had the thrill of camping at the site you showed at the end of the Ben Crom reservoir with about 4 inches (10cm) of snow on the ground. We walked in from the Trassey car park in the dark but no torches were required due to the snow cover and the moon. The snow in the Coll between Lamagan and Cove the next day was waist deep. This would have been in February 85 or 86, no photographs since I didn’t have a camera.
Cheers John, filming pretty much doubles the time taken and editing is usually a full day (though not all at once). That sounds like a brilliant trip from the 80's with snow on the ground (a rarer occurrence these days I think, especially waist deep!).
Cheers Ricky, have been using that for years - so easy to use and no worries about it not working. I find a gas lighter hard to use in the best of conditions 😊
Cheers Peter, it is a beautiful stomping ground and it is cool that you can still feel it 😊 I am sure Central America has brought some new stomping for you?
Cheers Gary, I would agree there is a beautiful energy in places like the Mournes on days like that and it shows what an amazing place Ireland really is 😊 Thanks for watching.
I didn't want to miss a second of this one gerry. I watched intently the mist, the valleys, the crags, the domes, the saddles and the pinnacle shapes let alone the cascading rivers. Amazing time out there. Ha ha, when you mentioned putting the rocks in place to stop you slipping I had a vision of you waking up with your knees bent upward. Well, what a morning. One of your best for a while. All the best over there. Mark
Cheers Mark, the Mounes do have it all I think. Gravity is an amazing thing and it kept working on me so your vision wasn't too far off 😊 Take care and looking forward to the next chapter of your River Wye Walk.
I have never been to Irland, but i would like to travel there and hike! Nice upload from you here, awesome content and beautiful nature footages, and i love this! Thanks for sharing. Like 62, Happy holidays . See you soon again
Hi Gerry, some fatastic footage. I really like those time lapse shots of the mist and thought the footage above the clouds was spectactular. The view @ 12.02 of the over-flow from the dam is impressive, really nice shot. A very long night if you went to bed @ 6.30pm! 👍😁
Lovely video Gerry - Ben Crom Reservoir looking gorgeous and the rest of the Mournes showcased again by you! Those noodles looked a bit sad but the ginger nuts sounded like a great choice!! 😉
Miriam, I have to say that I agree about the noodles (I am far too cheap) and to cap it all I couldn't even add the tuna as the tin I brought had no ring pull 😊 A cup of tea and ginger nuts are the best way to end the day when wild camping. Take care 😊
Cheers, I thought it was a great spot though it wasn't easy to pick somewhere in the dark and with the mist reflecting light back from the head torch. I was sliding all over the place and had to get up in the middle of the night to reposition, though that is all part of the fun of wild camping 😊
Watching in Canada. Been subscribed for quite a while. Your videos have been helping me through the different waves of COVID since March. Really enjoy them.
Cheers Sean, getting out and making the videos have been helping me get through Covid too 😊. I hope its not too cold there at the minute ❄️ Appreciate you watching and commenting 😊
Cheers Richard, I have a good down sleeping bag and good sleep mat for insulation and usually wear all my clothes (including jacket). Even then my toes can suffer and on occasion I have used my gloves as a second pair of socks 😊
Hi Gerry, I know you’re much more of a hiker but would you have any recommendations for wild camping spots in forests? Preferably more expansive ones that are abit isolated. Cheers!
Dylan, not sure what part of the country you are from? The only thing that is really springing to mind is the extensive forest in the Nephin Beg Mountains in Mayo - from Letterkeen along the Western Way, really remote and absolutely stunning area. I am sure there are many others and you might get better feedback posting on a FB group like Wild Camping Ireland.
@@gerrymcveigh that’s very useful information thanks very much. I’m from Longford (not much by the way of forests or mountains here shy of a few drumlins!!) but don’t mind going to all parts of the country. Again, thanks very much. Your videos are absolutely great and really informative.
Amazing shots of the clouds. Beautiful weather and stunning views
That’s absolutely stunning Gerry.
Cheers Kenny, that was a great trip last November with all the cloud inversions. Lovely chill autumnal days and nights😊
Great to see our painted stone there at the start. A mate left that there for our good friend who had passed. Great video.
Cheers Simon, a great message for everyone passing by to the mountains 😊

Excellent video, its nice to see your using a flint rod, most people use a gas lighter, that's hard to light in the cold. 🙂👍

Some fantastic footage captured of the Mournes mate... I spend alot of time up there walking and camping.. It really us a Magical place...
Cheers Andrew, it never ceased to amaze me every time I return 😊
Really brilliant! Watching in Central America with a lump in my throat at times as this was my stomping ground 20 years ago, beautiful work, thanks.
Hi Gerry is so good at showing us a view that otherwise wouldn’t see great on the big screen lol
Cheers Rod, maybe someone will buy me a big screen for Christmas 😊
Cheers Peter, it is a beautiful stomping ground and it is cool that you can still feel it 😊 I am sure Central America has brought some new stomping for you?

Many moons ago this was the first summit I climbed in the mournes. Great upload again Gerry buddy some wonderful shots
Cheers Colywn, a great mountain for your first climb in the Mournes, often overlooked I think 😊
Thanks for posting this Video Gerry. Shows the haunting and mystical energy of mother Ireland at her finest. Thanks for showing us this 👍

What weight is that back pack .
Martin, I haven't a clue 😊 All I can tell you is it is a 44 litre rucsac and I still have room in it. It only feels heavy when I am going uphill 😊
Another super video Gerry. How do you keep warm enough to sleep I often wonder?? Thanks again
