"Try filming yourself because you'll look back and be happy your slightly less shit" This quote is just so much more inspirational than you'll realize. It's just so cute and wholesome and makes me wanna roller skate and record just so I can see how much I've improved.

Loving the fact that you're totally relaxed about your goals. You do it for fun, not to impress. And most of it all, you do it for yourself. There are many skaters here on YT with such attitude and drama it destracts from the actual skating. And having just plain ordinary skates with no special wheels or upgrades makes you totally human and lovable! Great stuff!

    • @HeglaYoutube

when you spin/ turn try not stop straight away, try to continue on backwards a bit, and turn less, more like 180 degrees instead of spinning a bit more, idk this helped for me. and ive said this before but open book closed book transitions are the way to go :)

As a 1yr beginner myself: getting really deeeep in your knees and be a little bouncy really helps to improve. A lot of moves are easier then. 🙂 And you feel a lot more stable, especially when you are lifting some wheels. Happy skating 😊🙃

Protective gear makes your fall a bit easier to cope with. Butt pads, knee pads, wrist pads, helmet... the whole works. When you fall you, they help especially that butt pad lol I was so self conscious about it now no one can tell me anything ..... I hurt myself the first time I tried roller skating.... and out of commission for two weeks. Now I know the true value of the butt pad. And makes my practices sessions a bit more enjoyable because I am not dealing with the fear of falling.

I love these videos as a beginner! I picked up some tips and it's just fun to watch others learn as well 😌 what I do recommend is bending your knees more and refrain from leaning your upper body too forward, it's something I did waaay too much which really messed up how I Landed if I was going to jump and also from what I learned, semi squatting is kinda like the roller skating stance. It's something that takes time to get used too but overall learning how to skate is a really fun hobby ☺have fun!

Heyoo! I've been skating for a year and a half and you've made more progress than I have ahahahha. Your beginning skating was better than mine so don't worry about looking like a fool, I was so much more stiff than you. A tip for skating backwards is really bend your knees more! Also I always trip or lose my balance while skating so don't worry about that, just be a little more of when you're flexing your muscles because I notice that I tend to lose balance or trip whenever I relax muscles. Roller skating is one of those things where you need to keep some muscles constantly flexing, even if they're not 100% flexing.

I commend you on your journey and being courageous in this recreation. It is definitely fun and exciting, and it can be a mystery on how it all comes together. Mostly skating are a few coordinated move sets, some traditional ballroom - foxtrot, ballet, waltz, tango, quickstep, etc as the skate is designed to form-fit a dancer. At any rate. I am happy you took this forward to be as candid and to show others your ability or inability in some areas, as we are not perfect, but to adapt and to be more relaxed is the key to roller skating, that's how I started at least, some from visual in rinks and just getting the gumption to go!

Now I'm almost 53 and I've been skating more than ever. So just have fun, try to practice with people that can help you improve your skating skills.

Hey Hegla! You’re more inspiring to me than anyone that picks this up easily. I used to go to the roller rink a couple weekends a month during my childhood. I’ve never been able to skate backwards! So frustrating, however, I just ordered my skates and that will be the first thing that I conquer…. Once I can get my balance. Skating is so much harder to pick back up.

Happy to finally find a British Roller skater ! I've just started in the last couple of months, and I've been practicing at a skate park. I was taught how to ride up and down ramps. So if this is any help, go up and down the ramp with your feet stanced front and back not parallel, you'll have much more stability and then use your toe stopper to stop. With calving the ramps, the same but go in at an angle and lean away from the ramp to come back down. Good luck!

Watching this on mute at one in the morning after spending £60 on roller skates (bought at eleven pm.) Getting to see how people can move in roller skates is helping to assuage my doubts and remind me why I bought the skates in the first place

    You’re doing brilliantly! Well
Done! But the boots and the way they are done up terrifies me. Please do them up all the way and tightly. I’m genuinely worried you’re going to do yourself an injury. I skate but on ice and When I sorted my boots out I saw a huge improvement. I think you’d see massive progress with a more supportive boot and some upgraded wheels. No shade at all. Just fear for those ankles. 🥰😍🥰

This is great inspiration for me to buy shoulder, knee and hands pads and actually find a place for me to start practicing with my skates.
I don't have places to do it, no cementing the backyard and I'm not someone who leaves the house, but I'm looking to maybe try and get with friends to hang out somewhere while I practice...

The way I learned is to walk from place to a certain place in repetitive line especially at home if u really can't stand and I'd rather u walk first and not skate or even swing ur feet a little don't let ur feet get too close or too far and be gentle or you'll break the floor lmao
